Who: Tobias Beecher and Chris Keller
What: Arguments, Violence, Sex. The usual.
When: Tonight
Warnings: See the 'what'.

Tobias had been on edge, since Chris came home the other night- the man had fallen into bed, still clothed, reeking of sex. For once, Tobias decided to just ignore it, figuring whatever it was, he would not want to know.

He felt guilty about that choice, as soon as he saw Stabler's message on the boards. Keller had gotten violent, and taken it out on someone close. Not only was he almost positive this wasn't Stabler's fault, but he figured it was his. Now he was left with the choice of letting Stabler pay for his mistakes, or take the heat himself.

While the former was a more appealing alternative, he was trying to lead a better life. Even if it might be shortened, by this choice.

Either way, he knew they had to talk about it, at least. So he was waiting for Chris to come back, reading distractedly on the couch in the family room.

Chris had had a normal day. He had gone to a meeting with a inspector for a place he was viewing for work, he had gotten some lunch at a diner downtown and then spent the afternoon in Chicago doing work in his office for applications for a license for liquor. He was trying to go this clean, or as clean as he could. Over all, he was being a normal working guy-not the psychopath who had killed a man then raped another a few nights previous. Not the man who had been so drunk he made a gash in his chest by his tattoo, marking a forth for 'his Toby'.

He walked into Toby's place later that day, throwing his jacket on the back of the chair in the family room before sitting down on the couch, close to Toby, grinning, "Hey Beecher." He grinned, putting an arm up on the back of the couch behind the man.

"Hey," Toby mumbled, instinct causing him to slip over to the other coner of the couch, turning to face Chris. He knew that would piss the man off, but putting on the act might make it worse.

That set off all of Chris' alarms and his arm stayed where it was, grin still in place even if his eyes registered the man's mood, the man's reaction to him. Something was wrong. He tried to figure that out as he looked the man over, his face not changing from the amused expession it had.

"What's up?"

Very little between them was this up front, but Toby was starting to reach some disturbing conclusions about what caused the differences.

"Are you okay?" He knew starting off with accusations would just shut Chris down, so he'd start with his concern and go from there.

Raising his eyebrow, Chris shrugged, "Bit tired, but otherwise good. You?" He was beginning to think that perhaps there was something going on behind his back-had Stabler spoken to Toby? And Toby went to the bar to find his bartender missing? Chris had done two things, as far as he knew, to get the man acting like he was. He just had to figure out which so he wouldn't end up owning up to more than he needed to.

Toby thought fast, trying to decide how to go about this. Figuring he could kill two birds with one stone- getting Chris' trust back, and discuss Stabler's comment- he had a thought.

"I'm damn sick of reading. Holly's going to a friend's after dance. How about we go out for that drink?"

It'd probably be best to have this conversation in public, anyway. At least have witnesses.

Taking a moment to weigh that offer, looking the man over and wondering what he was thinking-what he was trying to do with the offer, Chris nodded slowly, "Okay," He said finally, shrugging as he stood once more, looking down at the man, "You're buying, right?" He teased, ever trying to give the impression that this wasn't an odd battle of wills, for who would give up the act of casualty first.

"Yeah, yeah, I'll buy." He figured Tim might even give them on the drink on the house, if he finally got to meet the infamous 'Chris'. Toby had told the bartender quite a lot about the man. They might even like each other, if the mystery was removed.

Toby stood, not bothering to do much more than shove his hand through his hair to tame it, before heading to the hallways and his coat.

Chris watched the man stand, wondering if this was a ploy to get him to the bar to see the bartender-Jealousy, perhaps, to excite him into taking Toby in the bathroom? But Toby suggested it, so it was hardly likely it was for such things. No, Chris was beginning to think this was Toby's way of saying he knew about Tim. He was trying to scare Chris into a confession, but there was no way the man had any hard evidence whatsoever, so he wasn't going to get it.

Chris followed after him, walking up behind Toby to give him a quick kiss to the cheek, "Want to take the bike?"

Shoving his feet into his shoes, Toby turned in Chris' space to kiss him on the lips just as briefly. "Sure, assuming you're not getting too tanked to drive us home,"

"Mm," Chris smiled at the quick kiss, leaning into it a bit before laughing, "I'll try to take it easy, how's that?" He gave the man's thigh a slap before grabbing his leather jacket and tossing a helmet to Toby before heading for the garage. Nothing wrong, nothing off. Right, as if either believed that.

"Unless you want me trashing your bike on the way home." The bike ride would be better for keeping himself silent, until they got some alcohol in their system.

Heading into the garage, he put his helmet on and waited for Chris to hop on the bike before sliding on behind him, hands around his waist.

"Hell no," Chris slid on the bike, and when the man put his hands on his waist, Chris leaned into Toby and used one hand to pull the hands closer around him while the other started the bike, and he pulled out without another word, heading for the bar.

Riding in silence, Toby let his thoughts wander, planning the questions in his head. Just like a case- have a path, a script to follow, and do his best to keep to the information he wanted to know, find out what he needed to know.

He hated himself for reducing Chris to a suspect, but... that's essentially what he was. And there wasn't an easier way to know what he thought, what he'd done. So he'd just have to be careful in it.

When they got to the parking lot, Chris waited for Toby to get off before easing off as well, stashing his keys and leaning over for a quick kiss before he headed for the bar. He knew something was up, could see it in Toby's shoulders, the way he held himself, and he leaned against the door as he opened it for the other man. He wondered if Tim was supposed to be working tonight. He didn't care. In fact, the man missing a shift that Toby seemed to have memorized made Chris smirk slightly.

Toby did seem wary, but tried to play it off, walking in the building and heading right up to the bar. He looked down the line subtly, but didn't ask after Tim; he actually didn't know if he was supposed to be working tonight. He decided he might not want to know.

Sliding onto a stool as he had a few nights before, Chris was glad to see that not a single person looked familiar-thus the crowd that was in there tonight was not the same that was in their Sunday, so no witnesses around to pick him out as the guy last seen talking to Tim. Not that Chris had been dumb enough to be seen leaving with him. Chris had waited outside the back door for half an hour for the man, not leaving at the same time. He wasn't an idiot. He had done this before.

He ordered a beer, leaning back a bit, looking around the room before leaning close to Toby, "So, what is it that you want to say in public, with witnesses?" Chris teased, knowing full well that was why they were out and not on the couch back home.

"You already know the answer to that." He gave Chris an eyebrow, taking a long drink from his glass before continuing.

"You've been asking around about me." There wasn't a point in denying it- Toby hadn't told Chris about this bar, how to get to it. He knew Chris had at least been here before, to bother one of the bartenders more than likely.

"So?" He replied, shrugging a shoulder, "I was curious as to where my honey was when he wasn't home," He grinned with an almost boyish charm about it, raising his eyebrows, even the innocent, "No harm in that. You asked around about me once or twice in our time together, Beecher. Get to the point." He knew that couldn't be it, after all.

"Either because I was worried about you, or worried for my safety. Not paranoid," he didn't seem to buy the charming act, shaking his head to show the point. "Give it up. Who'd you talk to?"

"Can't I worry about you?" Chris questioned, taking a sip of his beer when it arrived, before letting that idea go, "No one. Few people at the library, really. Just checking in. I want to help you beat this," Meaning the alcoholism. The man snuck away to drink, much different then going out with Chris, and he could be concerned about that. well, if he wasn't the psycho that he was, of course.

That was actually a really good excuse. Could Toby really believe it? He shook his head.

"I talked to Stabler. You fucked him up, to work something off. What got you that riled up?" Amazingly, he didn't seem concerned in the least about Stabler himself, just why Chris needed the outlet.

"When did I ever need a reason to fuck with him?" Chris offered casually, shrugging, not a bit of remorse or guilt on his face. The only thing he felt about what he did to Stabler was that he wished he hadn't messed the guy up so soon. Maybe he'd try to get in good with him again. Just to see if he could.

Chris took a sip of beer, "He'll be fine," He said, as if that closed the topic.

"You hurt him bad enough to have him mention it to me. That wasn't your usual schtick, it was too fast. Something set you off," Toby knew that first hand- he'd been in Stabler's position, seen it painstakingly clearly. If the man noticed something off, Chris must have slipped up.

God, even when he suspected the man of killing again, he found himself wandering back to being worried for Chris' safety. He really was pathetic. The thought made him chug the rest of his drink, waving the bartender over.

With a wary glance at Chris, he asked for a coke. No, nothing in it. He should be mostly sober to handle this, anyway.

Chris looked around the room, maybe a tell for his slight annoyance at this conversation keeping up, before he looked at Toby, "Any reason why should I be paranoid, Beecher?" The use of the last name was his own way of warning, a 'caution' sign to the conversation-Toby had better come clean with whatever he wanted to question Chris about soon, of he was going to get frustrated. Get angry.

"No. But you were, and you took it out on someone else. Don't make me out as the fucking bad guy in this, I'm not." He didn't seem to fret over Chris' anxiety, knowing it might mean the man was more likely to tell the truth- at least he was showing a bit of real emotion.

"Just tell me it was only Stabler. You weren't as fucking stupid as I think you were,"

Giving Toby a long, hard stare, Chris' face again went blank, eyes closing off, shutting Toby out with a default cockiness that Chris seemed to have, "What are you talking about, Toby?" He replied simply, taking another sip of beer, mentally daring the man to come to the conclusion, to connect the dots, to something besides beat around the bush.

Toby straightened at that, waiting for the bartender to wander away before he spoke.

"You hurt someone when you came here, didn't you?" Hurt, not kill. He didn't believe Chris would really-

Of course he would. Toby sighed, trying to brace himself for the reaction.

"Why would I do that?" Chris questioned, a maddening casualness to his question as he finished his beer, pushing the bottle away, eyes meeting Toby's without a hint of anything but slight interest for the man's reply. He could hide his emotions well. Though, well enough to fool Toby was always up in the air. Something about the man made Chris' talent dim a bit.

A feral grin appeared on Chris' face as he leaned over, so his mouth was close to Toby's ear, "I. Killed. Him," He said slowly, clearly, but only loud enough for the other man to hear. Egged on by the man's comment, of course, Chris leaned back with the same grin, though his eyes portrayed the seriousness of his statement.

"Can I get a coke? Yeah, thanks," He said to the bartender, eyes staying on Toby, waiting for him to react.

Toby's eyes shut, as he felt a wave of sickness pass over him. Swallowing hard, it took him a long minute for the reaction to come.

"Who?" He honestly didn't know which- it couldn't have been Stabler, they had talked. The man wouldn't go anywhere near him, yet. His mind was racing, pulse thudding in his ears. Chris was unstable, dangerous, he'd known that. But he'd let himself believe he was trying to act better, be better. That was all out the window, then.

"I'm sick of these fucking games, Keller. I can't-" He glared hard at the man, so smug and sure of himself. He was right- he couldn't. There was nothing for him to do, unless he wanted Chris to kill him, kill his daughter, out of spite.

Throwing his hands up in a surrendering gesture, Chris watched the man go. He had a few more sips of his coke, giving Toby a moment, before he went to the bathroom after him, wanting to check on him-also not wanting to give him too much time to think alone. That was never good for Chris.

Standing over one of the sinks, Toby's knuckles were white with the grip he had on the porcelain, to keep him from... hitting something, screaming, doing something. Chris had taken away his ability to do anything, and it was driving him insane.

He looked at Chris in the mirror, a familiar angle, as the man walked through the door, but didn't bother to move, just looked back down at his hands.

Seeing the look on the man's face, Chris locked the door, thankfully having no one else in the bathroom, before approaching slowly, moving up behind the man, standing close, hands moving to rest on Toby's on the sink as Chris kissed Toby's neck, "Toby, baby, it's okay. I took care of it."

Toby noticably tensed as Chris touched him, before breaking his hands away and forcing Chris back as best he could with his shoulders. "None of this is okay, Keller. You killed an innocent man." "He knew you, Toby," Chris said, moving to stand close to the man, invading his space, not caring, "Made me think how many nights you came here instead of home to me, when I thought you were studying. How many 'Tim's there are out there," Sliding the name in, he shrugged, "This wouldn't have to happen if you just knew how to be faithful to a guy, Beecher. To love him as much as he loves you. That's what it was for, after all. The killing," He mocked Toby's treatment of the word, "For us," He patted his chest again before tugging down the neck of his shirt, to bare that side of his chest, showing a jagged cut along his tattoo, in the same sort of pattern as the other numerals, "For us, Toby."

He knew it should bother him a lot more, that he couldn't even put a face to the name- mostly, though, he felt relieved. This really was none of his doing.

"My name's on my ID, dumbass, if I get carded or pay, anyone could claim to know me. Nothing happened. I am faithful to you, Chris. You-" His voice failed as he saw the new cut, and he let out a resigned sigh.

Just you and me, remember? You and me. Right?" He just wanted the man to fold already, to admit that Chris had a point, that Tobias had been cheating on him in some way, even if it was just coming to this place.
