Who: Harry and Ron
What: Best mates hanging out
When: Backdated to last week

Harry really needed to see his best mate. Thing were turning upside down. He knew Ron must be missing Hermione and Ginny, too. The four of them had been practically inseparable for the last few months he'd spent at home, and for Ron, he and Hermione had been married.

But now had come more news about his parents. What he needed was someone to talk to, because those people seemed to be in short supply right now. He didn't care what they talked about, about this, about anything, it didn't matter. He needed to get his mind off things and stop wishing he was back home.

It was with all this in mind that he Apparated in front of Ron's house and rang the doorbell.

Ron had been shoving jumpers and trousers into the laundry bin next to his bed when the doorbell rang. He wasn't necessarily expecting Harry, but he'd figured his mate would be dropping in anytime now. Harry was gobsmacked over the things he'd learned about his parents and godfather and the other Marauders. Ron knew it was only a matter of time before the boy exploded if he didn't get his feelings out.

Ron knocked at Rose's door. He wasn't sure if she was out or not, so he just spoke through the door. "I think that's Harry at the door, and he'll be wanting to talk, sweetheart. Go ahead and stay in here awhile so he can get everything off his chest. Thanks, Rosie."

Turning, he headed down the hall and to the front door, opening it to see his best mate standing there, a look of utter befuddlement on his face. Ron sighed, hooked an arm around his neck and pulled the younger man into his flat. "Come in, Harry. Tell me what's on your mind."

Harry was so relieved to see Ron. He let Ron bring him in, and swallowed hard as he wasn't sure where to start. He ran a hand through his usual untamed hair, making it stick up in more odd places.

With a heavy sigh, he practically flopped down onto the couch. "I don't know what to think, Ron. I never knew my parents, and never knew all that much about them, but this? No one who ever knew them ever mentioned this to me. Not Dumbledore, not Sirius, not Lupin, not Hagrid, not... not anyone. How do I..." He searched for the right words, coming up with nothing, and looked up at Ron with an almost lost look on his face.

"You just take it one day at a time, mate. It's all you can do. Let it sink in, stop letting your brain go all wonky, and just relax. I know it's a head trip and you feel like you're going bloody mad. I would be too if I found out my mum and dad were shagging other people." Ron sat down alongside Harry, bending a leg at the knee in the distance between them, his arm curving along the back of the couch.

"Ultimately, you have to let it go. Figure out how to be okay with it, or at the very least, accept it, Harry. Because underneath it all, they're still your parents and they love you very much." Ron pulled a bag off the table and threw it at Harry. "Here, thought you'd like some of these." Inside the bag was some chocolate frogs, Bertie Botts every flavor beans, and pumpkin pasties. He'd figured out how to make them here, and oddly enough, a shop on the internet sold chocolate frogs and the jelly beans.

Harry just nodded as he listened. Ron usually knew just what to say. And it helped having someone else recognize that yes, this sort of news could make someone feel bloody mad, instead of yelling at him and cussing at him.

"Yeah. You're right. They still... they're still them. I thought I knew them, you know? I had this idea of who they were and it's not quite them at all." He caught the bag Ron threw at him and his eyes widened happily. "Blimey, where did you get these?!"

"Parents are parents mate, no matter how bloody mad they drive you. You grew up without them, and they have no memories of you right now. So you only know of them what everyone's told you. And you have to think that they never thought they'd ever have to explain themselves to their grown son, yeah? It's a right bollocksed situation all around, Harry."

Grinning like a fool, he sat back on the sofa and crossed his arms. "Believe it or not, I made the pasties. Figured it out after a long bit of trial and error. And there's a bloody internet shop that sells the frogs and beans. Weirder still, they taste just like home. Even the horrid earwax beans."

Harry nodded. "Yeah. They still love each other, right? Do you think they do? My mum and dad, I mean. He said they did. But they also feel the same about..." he scratched at the back of his neck, uncomfortable voicing it.

Harry opened the bag and took out a chocolate frog. "It could be because of those books. You know, the Frank Jones ones." He glanced quickly at Ron. "Have you... ever read those books, mate?"

Ron snorted. "'Course they do, mate. Just because they've got feelings for other birds or blokes or whatever doesn't keep them from loving each other. Think about it, they obviously loved each other enough to have you, yeah?"

He shook his head at Harry's question. "Didn't read 'em. Don't want to. There are things I don't want to know about the people we know. I mean, bloody hell. What if it says something about Hermione and some other bloke, or goes into what you do with Ginny. I love my sister, but I'd jab my eyes out if those books talked about you two snogging and whatnot. Why, have you read them?"

Harry nodded slowly. Part of him needed to hear this from someone else.

His head shot up at Ron's last question. "No," he said quickly. "No. I don't know what else they might go into about... us. Me." He scowled. "I don't want to relive any moments seeing Ginny snog some bloke, either. So I haven't read the books or seen those movies."

Ron nodded right back. It was exactly the reason why he hadn't read or watched the supposed story of the boy who lived. He rather liked being in the dark about things, as it were.

"So we're agreed then, mate. Absolutely no watching the films or reading the books. Who knows what utter shite that Rowling bint wrote up about us."

"Definitely, we won't look at them. I bet she wrote nothing better than the rubbage The Daily Prophet wrote."

Harry grabbed another piece of candy. "Ron, I think I want to get away for a little while. Maybe go camping. D'you... would you want to come along? I know you've got Rose. But you're welcome to come, if you want." Some people might think Harry had had his share of camping, considering what should've been his seventh year, but Harry found himself wanting the solitude and time to think.

He shook his head, snagging some sweets from the bag as well. "Rosie's fine without me, mate. She's an adult. I'd like to go! It's been a few years for me, Harry. Camping's not so hard anymore."

Ron stood and walked over to a cupboard, pulling out a bottle of alcohol and two glasses. "I know you're only eighteen, but I figured after all you've been through, and since for you it wasn't that long ago, you might like a bit of fire whiskey." Setting the glasses on the table in front of the couch the boys were sharing, he poured a small amount of the reddish brown liquor into each glass.

"To friends," he said quietly, as he handed a glass to Harry and raised his own. "Here's hoping Hermione comes back."

Harry smiled, relieved Ron could come. "Brilliant. I don't think we'll have the same kind of tent as last time, but we'll manage."

He stared at the bottle Ron brought out. "You have real firewhiskey?" he said in amazement. "I've only tasted imitation stuff. Ron, you're the best."

Harry raised his glass to Ron and nodded solemnly. "And Ginny. To friends."
