Who: Stoney and Ceevee
Where: McGee's Miscellany
What: Shopping and uh art

The walk through the streets of London had been pleasant and McGee's Miscellany was quite easy to find. Stoney spent a few minutes perusing the wares displayed in the window as he finished up his coffee and deposited the cup in the trash. He held the door for a large woman and followed her into the shop.

The shop was much easier to find now that it was stationary. Under the original owner it had been marginally migratory, but it had settled considerably since then.

The shop itself was fairly unchanged, however, there was still a taxidermy crocodile hanging over the register, wearing a raincoat and carrying a basket of silk flowers in its mouth. There were glass apothecary jars on the counter itself, full of buttons, marbles, glass eyes, penny candies and one with a goldfish swimming in it.

The shop as a whole still gave the impression of being a multi-car pileup between a couple of costume and prop rooms, a hardware store, a half-dozen attics and a half of a furniture store. It was only roughly organized, and the organization never lasted more than a day or two before it evolved into something else.

Cee herself was behind the jewelry case that made up half of the counter, restocking the rotating shelves from a berry basket full of mostly costume jewelry.

Stoney's eyes lit up as he perused the jumble of furnishings, toys, clothing and whatnot. It was all he could do to keep from running from one area to the next, managing to restrain himself to stroking the lion's head on a chair arm or picking up a glass paperweight. Finally he made his way to the counter. "I think I've found Nirvana. The place and the band."

"Oh! You're the new guy." She said by way of greeting, grinning as soon as she'd said it, "Yeah, this place is good for that. Official shop motto 'find something you never knew you needed.' Though most everyone finds exactly what they're looking for."

"It feels like the kind of place where the things find the user, not the other way around." He held out his hand. "I am indeed. Stonewall Murderface, but my friends call me 'Stoney'. I hope you will call me Stoney?" He gave her a charming smile.

"Well sure." She replied, grinning still as she accepted the handshake, "Obviously I'm Cee. You can call me Cee, or C.V. or Velociraaptor, or hey you with the stuff. Tej is pretty much the only one who can call me 'duchess', and the bosslady is usually the only one who calls me by my full name, and on the random occasions that I've got boyparts I go by Paul, since that's what my folks would have named me if I was a boy."

A bounce of a shrug then, "So there you go, take your pick."

Stoney chuckled "How about I call you in time for dinner?" He raised an eyebrow. "Do you have boy parts often? I mean, I think Teja said something about you being a boy during the recent weirdness."

He mentally chastised himself. Why did he always get stupid around cute guys and girls?

"Probably a good idea, that, otherwise I'll miss it, and while missing meals does tend to run in the family I try not to make a habit of it."

She scratched a hand through her hair, shrugging at the question, "Sometimes, often enough that it's not much of a problem when it happens, usually happens whenever an outbreak of weird rolls around."

"We can't let that happen. Low blood sugar is bad for anyone." It was Stoney's turn to run his hand through his shaggy hair. "So you said you had Macaroni Art. Is any of it yours? I've heard you do amazing things with glitter."

"Low blood sugar time is usually when the melee weapons come out." She agreed with a nod, "Either that or Thursdays. Sometimes both."

She shook her head, "None of it's mine, get enough of it in through the back room that I haven't had to make any of my own. I mostly do beadwork these days, the occasional costume tailoring. Once I find out how much time Uni is going to take up, I'll see about reopening the boutique."

"I try to avoid being on the receiving end of melee weapons, even on Thursdays" He began to poke through a bowl of agate worry stones.

"Charlie mentioned that you were graduating soon. Have you picked a university and major yet?"

"Architecture and design, still shopping around for a university." Another shrug, "Sorbonne would be ideal, but I'm not going to count on getting in there. I know, I know, aim high, but I'm better at aiming realistic."

"Realism may be practical, but it's hardly the stuff dreams are made of. Why not visualize your self at Sorbonne? You'll find that the world will align itself accordingly. Excuse me."

He had been feeling a niggling itch almost since he had walked in. Unable to ignore it any longer he wandered away from the counter a few paces to where an upright bass was propped against a grandfather's clock. Automatically he pulled it against his hip and began to play softly.

She'd been about to answer when he excused himself. She grinned, chin resting on her hands, elbows on the jewelry case that made up the front counter, just watching the sparkle that only she could see.

It wasn't disruptive, and it didn't bother her, any, otherwise she'd put up signs, or something.

After playing classical for a few minutes Stoney began playing something of his own composition. He was a conduit for the music and it flowed effortlessly. Finally he stopped and looked at CeeVee sheepishly.

"I'm sorry. I couldn't... It was yelling at me. You didn't mind I hope?"

"Nah, it's cool. Strings make things go sparkly, kind of like commercials for cleaning products, where there's tiny little lens-flares on the corners of things." She shrugged, "If it was a problem I'd put up a sign or something."

Stoney chuckled "Yes, I guess you would. Not that most people pay any attention to signs." He gestured to the bass. "I think she wants to follow me home. I'm curious, what to do other sounds do? Are there colors with them?"

"Sometimes it's colors, sometimes just perception." She shrugged again as she checked the price tag on the bass, ringing it up, "I pretty much don't go anywhere if it's raining, especially during thunderstorms, and I have to stay away from bees, which is sad, because bees are all kinds of awesome."

"Hang on, don't ring it up yet, I still need a macaroni murderlady." He winked at her then sobered.

"That must be difficult, it rains a lot here in England. If bees are a problem, violins and hummingbirds must be uncomfortable too. What sounds do you enjoy?"

"Right, macaroni art. That'll be right over here." She ducked under the counter flap, one of the benefits of being short as far as she was concerned, "And violins do the same thing guitars and pianos do, with the sparkles. String instruments make for spangle, and hummingbirds don't have any effect at all as far as I've noticed."

She grinned, "And I like music, even though it makes things go spangly or halo-y or whatever, music's in my bones, it would be sad if I didn't like it. And I like the rain, it just makes going places difficult."

He grinned as she passed under his arm. "Who wouldn't like sparkly special effects?" He looked over the various macaroni and other homey art pieces. "Speaking of music, Charlie has dotted the t's and crossed the i's to get MurderTooth Records started. I was wondering if you were interested in having an hand in it?"

"That's how I look at it!" She replied cheerfully, pointing out a bookshelf that was where most of the macaroni and button art was kept, "And that all depends, what kind of hand?"

"I'm not sure, but it seems like you should have some input. What would you like to do? I was going to talk to Teja about being the manager, since he's got the degree and everything. I really don't know a lot outside of the making and producing music end of things. I'm not a bad hand with a mixing board."

She scratched the back of her neck, squinting ceilingward for a moment, "I could, uh, draw you guys some logos or album slash poster art? I'm good at that kind of thing."

[info]thunderbirdv
2012-05-26 06:25 am UTC (link)
"That would be very helpful actually. We need both a company and a band logos and such too. Teja came up with the band name Magnus Mörda for us. What do you think of this one? I like the use of glitter and colored glue." He held up the piece in question for her evaluation.

"Do you have any interest in being part of the company financially?"

"Eh, if I'm just doing arts I'll work on commission, it's what I'm used to, and it'll be just over a year until I can get into Uni anyway and I don't know what my schedule will be like after that."

A nod at the picture, "And that's a good one depending on where you're going to put it, it looks best in mid to low lighting, anything too bright and you'll be able to tell just how terrible it really is."

"Fair enough. You can buy in later if you want to, since you are family and all."

He frowned at the picture "It's going into my room. I had one from Toki, that he made me as a get well present and I miss it. My room isn't too brightly lit most of the time, but do you really think it's bad? Which one do you like?"

"They're all terrible, and that's also what makes them awesome. Which Mordhaus are you at? The real one or the ghetto one?"

She was already sorting through the rest of the glitter art, some of it already framed, trying to find ones that would suit either property.

"True enough, but I'll never tell." Stoney snorted "The 'ghetto one' I suppose, if that the one here in London. I've taken the Murderface suite. It's got a great view and looks a lot like my room back home already. It's just missing some personal things."

She backtracked a few pieces, pulling a couple off the shelf, "These two, then." One was a trio of faded neon harlequin masks done in sand instead of glitter, and the other was the same image reversed done in almost matching shades of glitter.

"You want any others?" She asked, wrapping both frames together with easy, practiced movements, something she'd done hundreds of times, "Anything framed is two for three or four for five, and right now you're at a grand total of thirty eight pounds, seventeen pence."

A grin followed, "And dinner's a good idea, I should do that more often, and more than just mac and cheese with Alec and Jane."

"Thirty five seventeen." she said, flicking the tag hanging from the neck, "Just like it says on the tag." A shrug, "Always go by what's on the tag, pretty much the one rule around here."

She paused, "Well, aside from don't upset Muridae, but that goes without saying. And Trader Vic's is good, I'll probably be closing up here round about seven thirty."

She shrugged, "Most everything comes through tagged already, Sneaky ran the shop off the tags, mum did the same thing when she got it from him, so I figure I should do the same thing, there's a reason for it. And Muridae's the Shadow that lives here. We all figure that technically the shop's hers, she just lets us run it for her."

She grinned, fashioning a handle for the now deftly-wrapped sand and glitter art out of a few strips of packing tape, "There you go, and don't worry about it. We were all new here once. Some of us have been new here twice!"
