Tobias was lounged on the couch, back under his pile of legal text, waiting impatiently for Chris to come back, call him, something. Messing with the detective, in the sober light of day, was a shit-poor idea. They were going to get into deep shit, he could feel it. Most of him dreaded it, but there was still a small voice in his head, the remainder of his insanity from the confines of Oz, that took a sort of joy in it; that's who he was, now. Who they were. Of course they'd be in shit.

Holly was off at a friends, spending the night since she didn't have school. Toby was glad she wouldn't be there for the discussion, and the... repercussions that would likely follow.

Chris had walked over to Stabler's, so he was walking back, the slightly chilly air of New York a change from California, and his red cheeks from the wind had warmed by the time he got to Toby's, the cigarette he had started at Chris' just winding down. It wasn't a long walk, really, port key to port key. Nice to know a person's bitch was within walking distance.

That thought made him smile as he headed into Toby's house, kicking off his boots and removing his coat as he headed into the living room, spotting Toby under all his legal shit. Really, Chris liked that Toby was putting this much effort into his work. Meant the guy wanted to live, to settle, to work, all good things. As long as it meant he wanted to do those things with Chris around, he was ecstatic.

"Hey Beecher," He sat down in the chair, smiling like the cat who ate the canary-or made the canary his bitch, whatever.

It only took Toby a glance to know Chris had got his way- he had that freshly-fucked smirk on, and nothing seemed to be ripped or bruised; so he hadn't gotten the rush from a fight. Nodding, he finished highlighting a line at set the book aside, rubbing at the bridge of his nose.

"So, that went well." It wasn't a question, and Toby couldn't help but scoff softly.

Snorting at the man's statement, Chris nodded, "Said he was my 'bitch'," Chris waggled his eyebrows, leaning back in his seat smugly, "Didn't even prompt it, Toby. Anyway, all's forgiven, so don't worry about him," It was weird, flaunting his ability to manipulate to Toby, seeing as he did it to the man-like showing the audience how to do the magic tricks half way through the show-but the man seemed to get off on it, so he supposed it wasn't too bad. He'd still hide shit, lie, that sort of thing, but with Stabler, he'd let Toby behind the scenes, as it were.

"Because you're a worrier, Toby," Chris said as he tilted his head, watching the man with a grin before lifting a shoulder in a shrug, "Anyway, we fucked, he begged, said he was my bitch, and I left to let him think that over. Oh, hey," He still had the smile though his tone took on a slightly accusing tone, "You didn't happen to tell him I was an ex con, did you?" The man had been only guessing, Chris knew, but he wanted to see if Toby might have even hinted at it, and he would be able to tell by how he reacted to the question.

Toby actually hadn't said anything literally cocking his head in a confused sort of way. "When would that ever fucking come up in conversation? No. Why the hell would I say something?" He was just the right amount of indignant, without being defensive. He knew it was just a test; if Chris really thought that, he wouldn't flat-out ask, he'd assume and maim Toby accordingly. He was just hoping Chris got the right idea.

That suited Chris just fine and he nodded, "Alright, fine. Forget I said anything," He shrugged easily, letting the subject drop, "Anyway, next time I fuck Stabler, you should come along," He offered before moving on, "Anyway, we still going to get that tattoo tonight or what?" He didn't need any more proof the man hadn't told. What good would it do Toby to rat him out? He knew Chris would be pissed if he did, after all, thus, no good.

"Whatever. 'Not sure he'll recognize me, without the tits." Which could be interesting- sex with a guy and a woman was one thing, but two guys who could do damage if they felt like it was a whole other level. It might push Stabler out of his apparently-passive comfort zone. Not that Toby would mind that, too much.

At the mention of the tattoo, his eyebrows rose, but he just shrugged it off. "If you still want it, sure, why the fuck not."

Smiling at the grope and bite, Chris nodded, "Fair enough, Toby. But what about you? You ain't getting your kicks from these papers, are you? Better watch it, you'll get a paper cut," He slapped Toby in the ass with a laugh before stepping away and going to put on his boots again.

Hands stuffed in his pockets, he glanced around, still not quite over the novelty of being outdoors.

"Same shit, different year. I've been getting calls from the firm I apparently worked for. The boss is sentimental, or some crap, he wants me back by the end of the year. So I got a lot of shit to take care of, but.. it'd get me back in the courtroom." He was intrigued by Chris' interest, but he didn't want to squash that. Still, he didn't want to get too technical, make Chris lose him. So he left it at that.

He tried not to show his surprise as the conversation went on; Chris got it in his head to wonder about strange things, especially where Toby was concerned. Deciding to worry about something normal... was almost just as strange, but he'd go with it. Better than discussing Stabler on the open street.

"Usually you have to set a date about a month in advance, two weeks for the results to come back- I probably need to get all the shit done by about August." He shrugged. "Considering most people take about a year and a half to learn what they need to pass a bar in a state, it'll be fucking nuts, but it's not like I have much better to do, right now."

	Walking close to Toby-not too close, but close enough-Chris nodded along with what the man was saying. He did like to keep up to date with what the man had planned and so on. Toby saw Chris gravitate closer- again, not odd, except in its utter normality. He shrugged his shoulder again, "I should be, yeah. It's catching up on the last five years that's biting me in the ass." They walked in silence for a while, before he half-turned his head to address Chris.

"So what about this restaurant you're supposed to be opening? Holly said you were going to have her help pick the place," He sounded amused at that, with a hint of underlying affection- Chris was trying. He knew that. But it was nice to see the effects, especially with his daughter.

"Yeah, well, if you need any time, you know, to focus or anything, I can take Holly for a trip or something, you know, get her out of your hair," He knew for a fact that Toby would be suspicious of that offer at first, but he was putting it out there. Chris was trying to be considerate. He had done bigger things for Toby than take a kid on a vacation-He had confessed to a murder, for Christ sake's. This was nothing.

"It's going okay. Got a few places lined up for next week, viewing and all that," He nodded, smiling, "Yeah, Holly is going to come along, look around, you know, give me her expert opinion," He nudged Toby with a smirk. Yeah, he was trying. And he liked Holly, as weird as that might seem.

That did get a bit of a start out of him, but he scoffed and nodded. "I'll keep that in mind," He was a little wary of Chris being alone with Holly, sure, but not for the reason Chris probably expected. He wasn't particularly worried about Chris' hurting her, any more. The girl was quick, both in mind and response. Not that he expected her to outsmart or outrun Chris, but if she stayed interesting, he was sure she could be safe. No, he was more worried about the two of them getting too close, and choosing to make Toby's life hell again. Even if it would be done in a joking way, he did have things to be working on, that needed focus.

He did his own nodding through Chris' explanation, smirking right back at the nudge. "If she's anything, she's opinionated." And they were getting along. The good, and the bad.

	Chris merely nodded at the man's words, having expected that sort of reaction. He didn't need the man to be jumping all over his offers to be a good guy right away. Eventually would be nice. 	Toby made a put-out face at the remark, rolling his eyes a little. "Right, I'm such a stubborn bastard, and you're the poor, quivering bystander. Get inside, tough guy," He grabbed the door and nudge Chris inside laughing a little. The sound only grew when he saw the man behind the counter look up at them and make a worried face.
