Who: Erik and Charles
What: Chatting
When: After Charles goes out to dessert with Sadako
Warnings: Other than grumpiness, probably nothing.

Charles got home very late. He threw his keys and wallet on the table by the door that was there just for those things and walked into his study. Erik was pacing back and forth, exchanging books and reorganizing.

"You're here late, Erik," he said, huge grin not falling when he saw him. He looked a little like the cat who caught the canary. He'd had a good evening, and it had ended earlier than he would have liked.

"No, it's fine, I just hadn't expected you to be quite so ... sharing." He shook his head, "Caught me off-guard is all." Both the statement itself, and his reaction to it, though he couldn't exactly say as much, since he still wasn't sure where that reaction had come from.

Charles still looked a little concerned. It wasn't like he'd shared how she was in bed. Not that he would know. But sharing about a kiss shouldn't be such a big deal. He thought about reading his friend's mind, but knew he would be angry if he did. Besides, it was probably just that Erik was very lonely. "Sorry. I didn't think. Maybe you should come out with me sometime? We can find you a nice girl. Or a not so nice girl, if you prefer." He grinned wolfishly at that. Maybe setting Erik up would help.

He'd been about to decline, mostly on the grounds that he was perfectly capable of finding his own company, should he want it, and, more importantly, he'd seen Charles' one pick up line in action before, and didn't suspect it would work where, and for that matter, when they were now. But then the thought of watching him try it anyway actually amused him, so he nodded, "Alright. Sometime soon."

Charles smiled, glad that his friend agreed. He didn't like to see Erik upset. "How has organizing go?"

And Erik was glad for the subject change, "Well enough, though now there's a whole bookcase of 'unknown' that don't really fit anywhere else categorically." A shrug, "Unless you'd like to start over from scratch with the Dewey decimal system, in which case we can find out where in the hell the library has them shelved."

Charles laughed, "I do not want to start over." He walked over and picked up a few books that were still waiting to be sorted. "I'm sorry I left you here sorting through these while I went out to have fun. Not really fair of me since they're my books."

"I don't mind." He said with a shrug, "Been a while since I've had a chance to paw through this many books outside of a public library." Since he hadn't had anywhere near enough of a chance to go through the library back at the mansion.

"I've moved some of the labels around as shelves have filled, but everything's still in roughly the same place."

He looked back at Erik, watching him for a minute while he looked at the bookshelves. "Still, I should have been here. I told you I would help."

His brow arched, eying the veritable towers of still-unshelved books, then at the shelves themselves, most of them still empty or only partially filled, "And there's still plenty to be done, it isn't as if you've entirely abandoned the project." Or him, for that matter. And that thought just made Erik shake his head, slotting the book in his hand into place on the shelf in front of him.

Charles was glad that there seemed to be no residual anger associated with his night out. "I'll get the coffee, if you still want it," he offered, heading out of the room.

"Yes, please, and then take a look at the unknowns, see if there's somewhere else you'd rather put them."

It was things like combination travelog/cookbook, an oversized deck of flash cards with mystery novel tropes and newspaper headlines, and a handful of maintenance manuals that there weren't enough of to warrant their own shelf, at least not yet.

Charles waved that he heard, going to get the coffee. He came back with two mugs, handing one to Erik, placing his own on a small amount of open table. "It's hot."

He tried to see if he could notice any irritation or jealous left in Erik when he came back in, but the other man was sorting through books like the conversation hadn't happened.

He went to his own stack, starting to sort through the unknown pile.
