WARNINGS: Probably nothing.

Sebastian stood at Varric's door, hat in hand, waiting for his knock to be answered. The estate was large, though not as large as the palace; still, he was suitably impressed. Not bad at all, for a writer of overdramatic tales.

When the door was opened, Sebastian smiled at the dark-skinned maid, asking for Varric. She didn't seem to grasp his greetings, but when he said 'Varric' she started to nod, leading him back through the hallway, into the house.

	Varric was typing away on his laptop, but he paused when Esmerelda came into the room to let him know he had a visitor. Pushing out of his chair, he kissed the older woman on the cheek before moving into the main room. His eyes widened when he saw his friend. "Choirboy!" He walked over to clap him on the back. 	Sebastian chuckled, shaking his head. "Hello, Varric. I thought I'd come see how you were. I'd never seen your estate, and thought you could use a bit of company that isn't shagging all over your house." His tone was easy and mellow. Penelope did have that effect on him. (Reply to this)

	He couldn't recall ever having seen Sebastian quite so laid back; even though he was generally in good humor, he was usually fairly rigid. "Are you drunk? You're right either way, but you're all ... happy. Anyway, come on in." He smiled at Esmerelda, taking her hand and kissing it before asking her to bring them some wine into his study. 	"I am not drunk, in fact. I've not been drunk since my second night in Kirkwall. Just happy." Sebastian smiled. He watched the maid, curious in spite of himself. "May I ask about your maid? You don't speak her language, do you?" Yet they seemed to communicate fine. (Reply to this)

"You're ... happy. It's weird, but hell, whatever's doing it should do it more." He motioned him into his study, which he'd had redone since his arrival. It had originally been fairly feminine with flowers and light wood. He'd redone it more to his tastes - mahogany and leather, and no technology but his laptop. "Spanish? Nope, not a word, but I've always been able to communicate with women."

	Sebastian chuckled. "That is quite true, from what I recall." He'd never had any steady flame, but the women at the Hanged Man had all loved him. "And speaking of women, I've actually met one. Well. Started to see one." He hoped that if he made it seem commonplace, Varric wouldn't taunt him overmuch. (Reply to this)

	"I was just messing with you. My lady, she's friends with yours." Esmerelda soon came in with two opened beers, handing them off to each of the men. She chattered to Varric for a moment, who grinned and shook his head. "He's not too skinny, but you're a darling for worrying." (Reply to this)

	"Your ... oh." He hadn't known Varric had a lady friend, but it was nice to hear. He would have said more, but Varric's maid returned. He thanked the woman for his beer, his eyebrows raising when Varric answered the woman. "My manservant would be mortified to hear that. Carlo's watched over the prince since he was a young man." 	Grinning, Esmerelda produced two candies from her pocket, handing one each to the men before backing out. "Oh, she says I'm too skinny too. She says everyone is." He stretched out and swigged his beer before popping his candy into his mouth. "Mmmph, candy," he purred. (Reply to this)

	Sebastian chuckled, popping his own into his mouth. "That's lovely," he murmured. He sat back, one leg crossed, still smiling. "You must enjoy having someone looking after you." He was about half teasing. Sebastian was used to it; Varric was more used to looking after others. (Reply to this)

Sebastian shook his head. "I don't know. At the risk of sounding silly, I don't know what being in love with a woman is like. I told her if it means that I'd rather be in harm's way than see her there, then yes, I love her." But was that what it meant? "I know she's probably the most interesting woman I've ever met. And she's ... extremely alluring. Stunning." He couldn't stop the beginning of a smirk.

"I never felt that way about any of the women I had entanglements with, and then I came to the Chantry and never had much of a chance. But one way I could always tell is if the thought of not seeing her for a while makes your chest ache, or if the thought of her in pain makes you hurt too - shit, then you're gone." Sebastian couldn't stop the deep chuckle at that. They had disagreed about what Bartrand had done, but he understood Varric's view well enough. "I find myself in Isabela's company a bit more than I'd anticipated, more so than Hawke's. Penelope's superior at work is Isabela's suitor, so we get thrown together a bit." He drank a bit more beer. "As for the idea of her in pain ... well. I presume you've heard about her vampire friend?"

	"Yeah, that still blows my mind. Isabela's always been one of those women who I figured would be a good mother, but I always thought she'd do it on her own. Steal a baby or something."
