Who: Morrigan and Aedan
What: How do you solve a problem like an out of control Old God?
When: Backdated a few days after Aedan arrived
Warnings: Barely contained rage?

Morrigan had been trying to keep a very matter-of-fact attitude about the situation, at least externally. Alim had assisted her in securing a location far away from civilization. Even Alim had not visited the dryad's cottage, but Morrigan had no doubt he would be able to find them if he really wanted to.

She hadn't told Brother much. It was better to keep it simple. She was leaving him, that was it. The less he knew, the less danger he would be in. His heroics would only get him hurt.

She'd refused to give Aedan the location of the cottage, instead insisting on meeting him in person and escorting him back. She'd traveled by portkey to the apartment where Aedan had appeared. There were too many people here, and Aedan must have known it. He hadn't argued when she told him she would find a place for him. She rapped twice on the door, trying to control her frustration.

Morrigan had only been to the cottage once, and briefly. She'd stayed long enough to get rid of some unnecessary things and drop off some of her own. Even in that short time, she was able to find the hidden cottage again. She could navigate woods as though they were city streets.

The structure was small, and seemed to almost be built into the trees. It was difficult to see if one didn't know what they were looking for. She shifted back into her human self as they neared the cottage. "Is this similar to your old quarters?"

Aedan shifted back, looking the cottage over before nodding. "Close enough. No burn marks on the ground, though, so that's something different."

Okay, maybe some of those had been his doing. Not all of them, though... his parents had interesting ways of arguing, after all. "It's better hidden, too. Nobody would ever think to look here."

"Give it time," she said of the lack of burn marks with a very small smirk. Not quite a threat, not quite a joke. She would leave it there.

She nodded, pleased with the location. "Alim said I hid you through the Eluvian. This isn't quite the same, but I doubt there is much chance of being stumbled upon." She nodded to the door. "You have a room."

Now that was the sort of thing he was used to. No matter which it was, it still made him smile.

"If anyone does come across this place, should be easy enough to make them go away," most people did tend to run and not ask questions when faced with wolves, or other things that tended to want to eat them. "...And I'm going ask to this before I end up saying something I'll regret. What should I actually call you?"

This had to be one of those rare occasions where both of the options he had were just... awkward.

Morrigan twitched visibly at the question. She didn't associate the word 'Mother' with pleasant things. Aedan didn't grow up with Flemeth, though. The boy seemed respectful enough. He almost seemed affectionate.

It would be silly to change her entire life, wrap it around this boy, only to refuse to let him call her what he would. It was a small sacrifice compared to all the larger ones she was making. "Call me what you will. If you wish to use the same name you used for me before, do."

"You told me enough about Flemeth to almost put me off using it, but... I called you mother, and I'd like to continue that," yeah, still awkward. He rubbed at the back of his neck, trying to think of a way to ease that a little. "And if it ever starts feeling weird, I guess you could always set my pants on fire and tell me to shut up..."

Handy thing about the whole Old God thing: fire didn't really bother him too much. Didn't stop him from going 'oh, Maker, I liked those pants!', though.

"Flemeth has nothing to do with you," she snapped, hoping her words rang true. Flemeth would have been a natural choice to teach Aedan control, but Morrigan would gnaw her arm off before letting that harpy near her son. "Her actions should not influence your choice in speech."

Morrigan suspected that hiding the boy behind the Eluvian had less to do with altruistic aims of protecting Thedas, and more to do with hiding him from Flemeth. She didn't approve of the boy having any knowledge of Flemeth at all. If she had been raising him now, that name would not have crossed her lips. The intensified rage was of course related to what Flemeth had done to Brother. She couldn't get carried away with those thoughts in front of Aedan, though. "You should go view your room. Put away your things. Now. Go."

That almost sounded protective to Aedan, which mildly astounded him. Sure, she was his mother, but... he'd never really known mention of Flemeth to bring anything close to that out. He figured something must've happened in this world, but knew better than to ask. Asking her about emotions was never a good idea, and tended to result in things exploding.

Much like delaying when asked to do something wasn't. He moved to go inside. He hadn't brought too much, so he'd likely be able to get everything put away pretty quickly.

Morrigan ground her teeth together, letting out a hiss of breath. It hurt to think of Brother. He hadn't understood why she had to leave, and she had limited how much she was willing to tell him. As far as she was concerned, the split was permanent. Even after Aedan was trained, she wouldn't risk leading him back to Brother.

She pressed her lips together, her eyes closing as she tried to compose herself before going inside. It wouldn't do to let him see her like this. It raised too many questions.

Even if he'd noticed, he wouldn't ask. Her emotions weren't something he was going to even try to understand... hell, he'd never understood them in his own world. He wasn't even sure if his father had, despite all he said they'd been through.

"How long do you think it'll take? To... gain some control over this?" it was the safest thing he could ask, really. Not that he was in any great hurry to start learning. "You know, just to the level where 'wrong' emotions don't make me suddenly transform..."

When he spoke, she realized that her hands were clenched. She shook her head a bit, trying to clear it. She didn't have the first idea how long something like that would take. It wasn't something she had ever experienced or seen done. Even if she had, she didn't know anything about Aedan or his emotions. "Time," she said, waving her hand dismissively. "Months. Years, maybe. I don't know how quick you are."

She took a seat in one of the chairs facing Aedan. It would be a long summer.

The thought of being stuck with that out-of-control side of him for years wasn't a pleasant one in the slightest. Especially since that'd likely end in attracting much unwanted attention... he was pretty sure dragons were still regarded as bad things, and the weaponry here was a lot stronger than it was in Thedas.

"Whenever you taught me, I tended to learn fairly quickly," what more could be said than 'fire and ice are good motivational tools'? That, and the thought of somehow impressing his mother was always something to aspire to. "This is a lot different, but I've got more than enough motivation to get it all under control."

"Good," she replied. Aedan being a fast study would help. She didn't think it would be years before he began to have control, but she planned to do the job correctly. She didn't expect mere control from Aedan, she expected mastery. This was no simple spell he could learn 'well enough.'

"I do not intend to leave this half-finished, Aedan," she said, calling him by his name for the first time. "This is more important than anything else you've learned."

He nodded. "I know, mother," one thing left unfinished or untouched could be his unravelling at some point, and Maker knew that could be disastrous for far more than just himself. "I don't want this to put anyone at risk. Least of all anyone I care for."

Of course, that made Morrigan teaching him a constant risk, but it was either that or end up razing villages by accident. It was the lesser of the two evils, as it were.

She nodded, satisfied with his level of dedication. He seemed oddly well-adjusted. Perhaps Alim was right about them having raised him well.

"It's getting late," she said. It would be dark in a few hours. They had a great deal of work ahead of them, and it didn't make sense to her to start with so much of the day gone. "I think starting tomorrow would be soon enough, don't you? Unless you'd like to start your training by hunting down dinner."

He couldn't help a slight smile at that. Once more, proof that things never really changed... "I think tomorrow will be fine. Best not to risk it going dark whilst we're working."
