Who: Lois Lane and Varric Tethras
What: Intrigue! Danger!
Warnings: Probably not!
Lois was in deep. She had been trying to dig up dirt on a senator. She had reason to believe the senator from California was collaborating with a terrorist cell. The story would be huge, but of course she couldn't publish groundless accusations. She needed proof. This needed to be a scathing expose. She'd managed to get into his office, but a thorough search of his workplace had proved fruitless.
The next step was to check his house. Some might call it "illegal", but Lois just called it dedication. While Mr. and Mrs. Terrorist were out at a black-tie event, Lois found her way inside. She was in disguise, dressed as a maid. Posing as the household staff should get her access to more of the house, or at least provide an excuse if anyone caught her. She'd made her way inside and things seemed to be going well, so far. She slipped past a guy that looked way to buff to just be a normal butler, explaining she was new and adding a heavy dose of flattery and flirting.
Then she was at ground central. The senator's home office. She looked through the papers, not finding much. One of the drawers was locked, though. That seemed promising. Lois pulled a bobby pin out of her hair and dug around at the lock. It took a bit of wiggling, but she popped the lock. She pulled out the drawer, triumphantly grabbing a manilla envelope. She glanced inside; this looked like exactly what she was looking for! She snagged a memory card that was inside the drawer, too, sticking under her garter for safekeeping. That had to be good. She would look at it later. She shut the drawer, ready to leave... When the door opened.
Lois turned around, looking a bit like a deer caught in the headlights. It was the senator, and he looked livid. "I was just.. dusting ze desk!" she said with a bad French accent, motioning with the feather duster she carried and trying to hide the envelope behind her back. Yeah, that really wasn't going to work. The man closed the distance between him and Lois, grabbing her by the neck and lifting her way higher in the air than a normal guy should have been able to lift a woman weighing none-of-your-business pounds using just one hand.
