What: Big brother comes by for a surprise visit.
When: Sunday evening.
Where: Lilo and Gabe's place.

Lilo hummed as she came into the kitchen of her house. Gabe was somewhere, but he wasn't her priority at that moment; she had a bag filled with groceries over one shoulder, and she wanted to get everything in the fridge before she got dinner started. It was going to be a low key affair - loco moco most likely. Humming as she rounded the corner into the kitchen, she smelled smoke. That was odd.

What was odder was the huge hulking figure sitting at her kitchen table, reading the paper, and snuggling Danger.

"GET OUT OF MY HOUSE!" Lilo shrieked, lunging forward to punch the man hard in the neck. He just grunted at the blow, raising an eyebrow at her.

Gabe had been upstairs reading, but when he heard Lilo scream he was downstairs in less than a second. Thank fuck he'd been dressed; the last person he'd ever expect to see in his kitchen was his brother.

He grabbed Lilo around the middle as she'd looked like she was going for another punch, letting out a grunt at the effort. "Calm down!" Gabe told her, holding her tighter, but more like a boyfriend. "Calm down. That's my brother Michael."

Toward Michael himself, Gabe just sighed. "I guess popping into a mortal's house unannounced can't really hurt you, huh."

Lilo was kicking her legs, trying to get free, but she heard the word brother. "Oh. ... hey, that was douchey, jerkface, you can't just come into people's houses uninvited."

Michael for his part was the picture of calm, still stroking Danger's fur. He'd folded up the newspaper, a grin spreading over his face. "Nope. Good try on her behalf, though. Where'd you pick up the spitfire?"

	"Douchey's Michael's specialty," Gabe told Lilo, only half kidding, as he let her go. "Don't waste your time smacking him." He answered his brother slightly frostily. "Lilo's from Hawaii originally; we met in Honolulu one day. We were both trying to eat four manhole-cover sized pancakes in less than an hour." (Reply to this)

	Lilo sighed, putting a hand on Michael's shoulder. "Sorry I hit you. You staying for dinner?" Patting her lightly, Michael nodded. "Sure, thanks." He chuckled as Danger yowled, obviously upset at not being pet any longer. Standing up, he nodded at Gabe to follow him to the living room so they could talk. "Didja do it? THe pancake thing." "No worry there." Gabe's eyebrow raised a trifle, as if to question how hostile that sounded - did Michael not think he could protect Lilo? - but he choked it down.

Instead, he kept on with the other subject. "Father does seem to be pleased with this world. It's definitely not the same as the one we're used to - I don't know. There are a lot of special humans here. Up to and including the one who's now our brother."

He knew Michael wasn't the touchy-feely type, and Gabe didn't even smile, or at least not until he'd tipped his beer in front of his lips. Who the hell knew if his brother would stop being a dick, but to even hear him say he didn't mean to be, helped.

He set his beer down, doing his best to sound average. "I didn't, actually; Lilo did. It's her dog, not really mine, though she seems to like me." He scratched the dog's stomach idly. "Lilo?" He called. "Why'd you name her Dennis?"

"She picked it out!" Lilo called back from the kitchen. She soon emerged with three plates of steaming food and a beer for herself, handing out the food. "We can eat in here." She winked at Gabe before sitting down by Dennis.

Michael chuckled. "'Course she did. I like it here, weird shit happens and nobody freaks out. Not like back in the day, say something from a burning bush and you get peed on. Nobody talks about that part though, oh no."

Gabe turned bright red, just drinking more of his beer. He was a little irritated that Michael had actually said the M word, but he couldn't be expected to know the reaction it'd provoke.

Dennis, however, just giggled, and Gabe sighed. "Lilo's a surfer and freediver, and she's been trying to teach me how to swim. It hasn't been going too bad, so far." Given that he was used to walking on water, well.

"Pops thinks I need it, and I'm pretty sure everyone else would agree." He shrugged and picked Dennis up to put her into his lap and scritch behind her ears. "It'll give me time to get settled in my house. I replaced some hotshot ex general for the States, so getting my house and shit in order will take time by itself." He'd already finished his food, and he stretched out contentedly after setting the plate safely aside.
