Who: Mephisto and Calliope.
What: Chatting.
When: After Meph gets back from Ariel's shop.
Where: Radek.
Warnings: Potty mouths, always threat of violence.

When Mephisto arrived back to his kingdom from his visit to Ariel's shop, Calliope was curled up on her bed, nuzzling her cat. She stroked its ears with her long fingernails, smiling to herself as the creature butted against her hand. Calliope had been lonely her entire life, so it never occurred to her that was what she was truly feeling. In fact, she wasn't ever really aware of feeling anything. If she'd known more, been given a chance to be human at all, she'd have recognized jealousy and loneliness for what they were.

Instead, she assumed it had been too long since she'd tortured someone, and had plans to go out that night and find a victim.

The words about Calliope were still fresh off the demon's lips as he returned, and as he passed her room's door, he paused. Heaven help him, he couldn't ever wrap his mind around his emotions surrounding her. He took a moment of silence before he rapped at her door with one hand, his other still holding the sleeping bird close to his chest. The sound of the door vibrating gave him a blurry mental image of the inside of her room - she was on her bed.

"I'm coming in," He said a moment later. "Take care to keep the beast off the floor, I don't wish to tread on it."

"Come in whenever," she called back. Cassandra was in her arms, and she moved to shut her into the room adjacent to the one she was in. It was meant to be a sitting area, but she'd outfitted it with scratching posts and climbing enclosures that the cat could romp around in and not be loud or underfoot.

Moving back to her bed, she sat back down, arranging herself in a lady-like pose without really thinking about it. She'd been lounging around, and as such, was in a white nightgown and dressing gown. Old habits died hard, and immodesty had only been a relatively new relevation.

He stepped through the door and took a standing position at the high post of the foot of her bed, listening to her. "You've been acting... off, as of late, and I would like to know why. If it's because I haven't given you enough to do, I assure you, you'll have plenty of work. I'm simply tying a few strings around this current business with the Asmodeus deal." He set the bird down on her bed and she buried her head under her oily blue-black wing. He stood beside Calliope a moment before kneeling beside her chair.

"You have a depth of longing in you that I cannot help to fill. But I will try."

She blinked at his words, sitting up and cocking her head to the side. "More work wouldn't be amiss." She sighed, pulling a pillow to her lap and wrapping her arms around it. "I think that would help." She didn't want to tell him the real reason - she wanted to be the only thing he needed - because she knew it was foolish, and didn't want him to tell her so. For some reason, when he scolded her, it made tears well in her eyes.

"Then you will have it," Mephisto said, obliging as he could ever be. "But it won't shake your longing. Tell me what it truly is, woman, or I can't fix it." He knew she was jealous of the time he'd spent with Ariel, and if she got anywhere near the alchemist, she'd completely fuck herself over.

For more than one reason.

"You likely already know I'm jealous," she shrugged. "There's little point in saying so. I know the alchemist provides something ... I cannot." She looked up so she wouldn't get her cheeks damp. Crying blood tended to upset her. It seemed like such a waste. "I've never really been human."

"And you provide something that he cannot. You were human at one point, far more than I ever was, so don't you dare presume, Calliope, to use that cop out bullshit excuse." He stood then and set his jaw. "You pretend to believe you know how my mind works, why I keep that damned man around, and you never will. You'll never understand it, because even I haven't the foggiest." He plucked up his bird and woke her up, putting the grackle on his shoulder, pacing as the bird kept her eye on Calliope.

"I told him that I frankly don't know why I bother, that your very presence vexes me in such a way that I want to tear you limb from limb just as soon as I wish to hear your voice. You infuriate me." It wasn't because of who she was that made him feel that way - he had a damn good feeling that she was the closest thing to a romantic love he'd had, but it was the very knowledge that they'd spent so long together and all she'd done was acted like the yes-man. Yes-woman.

He swiftly moved and pinned her to the chair, his legs pinning hers, his hands putting hers up over the back of the seat, and his mouth and lips dreadfully close to her face.

"If that is what lust feels like, I'd rather not give in. But on the other hand, if I can feel lust this strong once I've been purified, I will take you up on her desires." And he knew it might very well be the end of one of them.

Her cheeks were wet, and she felt her jaw grinding, back teeth gnashing against each other so loudly she thought it must be audible in the room. He was so cruel, and all she'd ever done was help him. She was infuriating? She existed to help him. She loved him where she'd never loved anything!

Gasping in terror and arousal - both unfamiliar sensations - she looked into his sightless eyes. "The feeling is mutual, I can assure you," she snarled, upper lip curling to expose her fangs. Blood was smeared over her cheeks, but she still tossed her hair defiantly. "I give and give and give, and you'll never care for me. Not a whit. I used to think I was incapable. You're just ... something else entirely."

"You have no idea how hard I've tried, Calliope," Her name was venom on his lips when he spoke it, and moved his lips closer to hers, "to make myself feel what you feel for me. I can't. I want to. I despise everything that can feel how I want to feel about you." He put his hand into her hair and tugged it tight, to the point where it was neatly yanking out of her scalp.

"I've come this far, Calliope, and I'd rather follow Asmodey into the void than find myself unable to live without passion, without joy. And THAT is why I'm speaking to Ariel." He pushed a kiss against her lips, reveling in the taste and sensation of her lips corroding away from her skull.

That came as a shock to her. He wanted to love her? He wanted to lust for her? Arching her back, she whimpered low in her throat when he tugged her hair. She'd endured worse pain before, and had lived almost her entire human life enduring far greater. Having her hair pulled out was arousing.

She didn't need to breathe, but the revelation as to why Mephisto had been spending so much time with the skinny idiot alchemist made her feel as if she needed to take a few deep breaths. His kiss made her groan, and she shifted her legs a bit, flicking her tongue out to meet his, purring as it dissolved away. God, how she wanted him to try that anywhere and everywhere. She tried not to move against him, but the idea of his tongue against her thigh, leaving perfect red muscle in its wake, carving away the white of her skin - it was almost too much to bear for a woman unaccustomed to arousal herself.

Mephisto pulled away after her lips became nothing. He ran his clawed fingertip over her jawline, breaking skin intentionally.

"Never mistake my comfort for care, Calliope. Never mistake my gentleness for kindness. I can break you with both, and if I don't get my way, I will. I suppose the point of this little visit," He whispered as he helped the acid rip its way down her throat, using his nails to pierce the skin of her neck, "is that if you so much as consider touching Ariel, or anything close to him, I will rip your brain from your skull and use it to tan your entire body. You'll be a stuffed amusement in a wandering carnival or something." His oddly terrifyingly rough voice wound up oddly seductive with those words, and dipped even deeper into that tone. "I've offered you asylum from all punishment other than my own, do you really want me to revoke that, Calliope?"

His claws worked their way down the part of her chest that was exposed, and left a lovely smear of red. He had forgotten how much he loved the color red.

Especially that particular hue.

It was hard to focus when he was cutting her. She wiggled against her mattress a bit, leaning her head back to offer him more of her neck. It was hard to talk without lips, but fortunately she was a vampire and healed quickly. "I don't - I would never. I wouldn't harm him without your directive. He's a fighter. I admire that quality in people." Which was true; it reminded her a bit of herself.

Biting her lip at the smell of her own blood, she let her head hang forward, her hair covering her eyes. "I wouldn't ever do anything to anger you so irrevocably." Perhaps she'd tease him to drive him to hurt her a bit more, but nothing to do damage against the odd sort of trust between them.

"That's my good girl, Calliope." He slipped away from her body and looked her over, before chuckling low and dark. "I'll find a way." That said, he summoned his bird back onto his shoulder from where she'd flown away to get away from the blood. He walked to the door and opened it. "Oh," he said, as if he almost forgot, "I also consider him a kindred spirit. Just as I consider you... without all the messy lust and desire."

Lust to do what still had yet to be explained, and he refused to explain it that night. He slipped out of her room, and to his own rooms, putting the grackle on her perch, and started sewing. It gave him a great chance to think deeply.
