She'd said she'd be there with bells on, and she was, she had a belly-dance belt over her skirt, tinkling faintly whenever she moved and jingling softly when she walked. She'd swept her hair back out of her face with a simple headscarf, though this apparently offended the fashion sense of the raven on her shoulder, since he'd pulled a few strands out from under it to drift across her temple.

It was mildly amusing to her that she seemed to be collecting rogues, not that this was anything new, it just was a source of continual amusement. She made one last sweep to make sure she had everything before heading outside to wait on the stoop, it was a nice evening for once and she was going to enjoy it.

Remy popped out of the portkey and was once again grateful it didn't dump him in some slimy alleyway again. He smoothed down the front of the wine oxford tucked into tailored slacks, but the eternal scruff seemed to balance the polished look.

When he reached the address and caught a glimpse of his dinner-mate, his smile grew wider. She looked beyond stunning and every romantic image of the gypsy woman combined. He smiled as he walked into her vision, with a noted more bounce in his step.

"They used to warn about your types, cherie," he smiled and dipped a little bow. "Stealing hearts wit' a look and dancing away in de night."

She laughed, shaking her head, "Oh they still warn about us in some circles." She shrugged then, one-shouldered so as not to disturb the raven on her other shoulder.

The bird, for his part, regarded Remy for a moment with one reddish eye and then fell still, looking more like a prop than anything.

She stretched as she stepped off the stoop, "Pleasure to meet you in person." She gestured in the general direction of the row of restaurants, "It's a bit of a walk, but I don't figure it'll kill us."

He assumed the raven's passivity meant he passed some test and could keep his eyeballs. Which he approved of doing.

"Sounds bon to me," he nodded and offered his arm for her to walk with. "I'm sure it will only help our appetites." He smiled and nodded. "Dis was where you used to be you said? Any big changes between here et dere?"

"Oh I lived here ages back, before I moved off to New York and then from there to L.A. and then from there to a pirate island for a year or so before going back to New York, which is where I was before the tornado." She explained, taking the offered arm with a grin, "So mostly I'm just pretending any eccentricities are due to the time span and not the alternate universe, though sometimes that's a little harder than I think it'll be."

She tilted her head from side to side as if weighing options, "But I've got acquaintances if not actual friends here, so it works out about even."

"Seems you're an old hand at reality hopscotch," he smirked and walked with her, easily checking his strides to make it a nice stroll for both. "There's a few countries et islands missing from my old place, but on de whole, nothing much gone."

"For me, is usually how a newcomer will react dat I have to pay attention to. So-et-so may look and call themselves an old friend, but I'm not so surprised if there's something thrown at me." He winked as they went. "Some think I am a troublemaker."

She shook her head, smiling again, "Oddly enough all of that was in the same reality, I'm a Van Helsing, we move from time to time just to keep ourselves equidistant from each other, or something, I've never really been sure."

There was a browarch, smile gone sly, though her tone was, somehow, wholly innocent and edged with curiousity, "Oh do they? And are they correct in that line of thinking?"

"Really? The only Van Helsing I know of are in old stories having something to do wit' hunting vampires." He looked at her mildly. "Is your family similar or is de name an alternate reality coincidence."

He grinned back before matching her play with a prim lifted chin and slightly hurt tone. "I prefer to think of myself as being open to different definitions of entertaining fun."

"Oh that's us." She said with a nod, "Same ones all down the line. 'Elephants all the way down' I like to say, some of us just take a broader view of the familial revenge. And different definitions are one of my favorite things."

She made a sweeping gesture at the whole row of restaurants, "We were looking for cajun, weren't we?"

"Interesting. The biters are only stories in our world, but I'm sure we would have enjoyed having a Van Helsing of our own." His grin grew lopsided and wiggled an eyebrow to her. "Sounds like good times to me."

He looked about, looking to see if it would just pop up. It also meant he could enjoy listening to her bells dance and sing softly. "Oui, some good ol' cajun, though plenty of these places look good themselves."

"They seem to be a myth in a lot of places, from what I hear around here." She shrugged, "But that's nice, means I get a vacation for a while." Her brow furrowed, "Then again, I tend to take the narrower view of the family revenge saga, only go after the Dracul line whenever they crop up, which is few and far between."

A head shake, "In any case, don't suppose I'll have to worry about it here too much, and I've got a job I know how to do, and besides that I actually like, and right now? I've got company and a good dinner on the horizon, if the place I knew when I was living here is in the same place we'll hang a left at the corner."

"What vampires we have here seem to be behaving themselves and not creating a legion of mindless followers. We have, or had, nautical ones for a while." He shrugged mildly. "And there were zombies. That was disgusting, cherie."

He chuckled low and nodded. "Sounds like a good frame of mind et an even better plan." They took the corner, off the main street and Remy looked around in the shadows, old habit. "Well I smell something good down dis way, gotta be a good sign."

Adelia took a deep breath as well, nodding, "Mmhmm, that's the place, don't remember what it was called, but that's definitely what it smells like."

Realizing that he'd said 'nautical' she laughed brightly, "Oh they're still here, it was their island I lived on for a while, that is if we're talking about the misters Turner & Sparrow, and they're most certainly not of the Dracul line."

The restaurant had apparently just been a storefront at some point, before they'd taken over the lot next door as well, leaving a sort of patchworked front side, with a wall in the middle of the front window, or at least a pillar that had once been a wall all the way through, "Yeah, this is definitely the place." She said, smiling.

Remy laughed. "Probably named after someone's Nana or Tantie. All de best ones are."

"Those are de ones!" He nodded, partially relieved that he hadn't just pointed out someone she had to go and off. "I enjoyed one of dem yelling at de earthquakes to stop recently."

"It looks like de right place, patched together wit' plenty of character." He grinned and reached for the door for her. "I already like dis place."

She nodded to the a-frame sign out front, proclaiming the place to be 'Nana's Pantry', "You're right again. I'm starting to think maybe I should buy a lottery ticket or something."

She slipped past him into the sprawling, but somehow still cozy interior, very nearly purring at the mingled food smells inside, "This is definitely the place. Be lucky if we can roll ourselves out of here when we're done."

He grinned and winked. "I've always been better wit' cards than with lottery, but Lady Luck's been known to switch sides."

The waitress smiled at them like they were childhood friends and sent them to a slightly quieter side of the building, where the tables were flanked by comfy padded chairs. Remy whistled at the menu and grinned wider. "I don't know where I'd start."

"I'd wager some wine wit' some staying power would hold up against de Cajun spices." He raised an eyebrow, asking her opinion before he went and ordered everything by himself like she had no say.

"Sounds like a plan to me." She said, but she squeaked a moment later in unmitigated glee, "They have juleps." A shrug, flipping back to the front of the menu, "That's for after dinner though, with the peanutbutter pie."

She shook her head, "I've got no idea where to start either, I only know I can't have one of everything even if I want it." Another head shake, scanning over the menu again, "Rice and gravy is all I know for sure, since I haven't had it in forever."

"Better make that two of the same." She said, shaking her head, "Otherwise we'll be here all night just waiting for me to decide." She smiled up at the waiter, shrugging one shoulder, "I'm not usually so terrible at it, it's just that everything sounds delicious and I think I forgot to eat lunch, which just compounds the issue."

"Den we scare up some hush-puppies et dipping sauce for you, chile. I'll come back when de little ones are ready."

Remy nodded and smiled at the waiter bustled away. "Now dat you said dat, they might just bring us plates of things for de hell of it." And if you don't finish your plate at one of these places, the chef might come out to scold you.

"We've got plenty of time to pick the main course now, rushing is a sin 'round here."

"Usually I can handle a good scolding." She said, "Though I don't know, seems like they'd be mighty fierce about it around here." She was smiling, however, "And I've never had a problem with cleaning my plate. Especially somewhere where slow food isn't just a passing fad. Part of why I tend to favor Greek and Moroccan cuisine as well, it's all about the conversation and the company and the food's just there as backup."

He nodded and grinned softly. "I always did like de fact you have to ask for de bill in France, but large servings isn't their forte, no," he agreed and then smiled a wide cat smile. "Mmmm, Mediterranean is always delicious in any season, Persian especially."

"De after meal coffee is perfect for taking in the world around you and the words from across the table." He nodded and settled back into the stuffed chair.

"I like the way you think." She said, nodding, "I know the Greek place up the road is good, had dinner there the other night, have to try the rest of them still, and I'm apparently good at getting ahold of company, so I don't think it'll be much of a problem to try the rest of them. That and whoever I replaced still seems to have my share of the family fortune, so that's a help as well in the long run."

She smiled then, leaning forward, elbows resting on the table, chin on her hands, the bird on her shoulder shifting his footing just to stay in place before falling still again, "So, tell me a little bit about yourself."

"Merci," he smiled warmly at the compliment and grinned. "Trying out de local places is one of de best adventures to have. Well, dat won't throw you in jail." He wiggled his eyebrows.

He smiled and settled back as she did, smirking a little when the raven lurched and corrected himself. "Myself? Hmm, de man I replaced turned out to be one of de top common law lawyers for London. It's not too bad, though sometimes I have t' fall back on ol' tricks of talking myself out of trouble."

"Sounds interesting. Law is one of those professions I could never get into myself, but I have some definite admiration for people who do." A crooked smile, "And the fact that you landed in it unexpected-like makes it all the more amusing to me right now."

She shook her head, "So far as I can tell I didn't replace anyone famous or even marginally well-known, well, at least not well-known to anyone but the regulars at the Arms."

"Neither did I," he shrugged. "I think I laughed until I cried when I found out. Then stopped when nothing changed." He shook his head, hands open in surrender. "I didn't ever get much of a textbook education, dis has been skin-of-de-teeth kind of thing."

He grinned and nodded. "Fame, it ain't dat great. Living comfortably in de manner dat pleases you? Well, dat's another thing entirely." He tipped his head and grinned. "Ahh, de Arms. Et just how famous are you dere?"

She arched a brow, curious and even a little accusatory, "You know about the Resting Arms? Damn, I knew they made a good cup of coffee, but I didn't realize they were internationally famous." She was, however, still smiling, "And pretty well known, apparently. I mean, we've got regulars who don't want anybody but me or the bossman to make their coffee." She shrugged, "Which I'm used to, had my own regulars back home too, so not that much of a stretch."
