Who: Zevran and Ezio.
What: Two assassins walk into a bar.
When: Tuesday afternoon.
Where: A pub in London, near Ezio's flat.
Warnings: Swearing, possible lewd conversation, but nothing past that.

Zevran may have been new to Earth, but he already looked like he fit in. He strolled up to Ezio's flat, clat in leather pants, a black silk button-down shirt that was half-buttoned, and buttery soft leather boots that made little to no sound as he walked. Ezio was expecting him; they were going to have a pint and discuss the new world. Well, new for Zevran, but by far updated for Ezio.

He pressed the buzzer to be let inside, navigating the stairs with ease. He knocked twice.

It was good Ezio was expecting him; his new favourite possession was the umbrella he'd purchased in a street market earlier. It was kept in a large can stand of sorts near the door, and it had, of course, an extremely sharp blade in the tip.

He allowed the other man inside, having the door open within seconds of Zevran's second knock. "Buona sera; a good evening. Come inside if you like." There were blades everywhere, if he was wrong about this man, but he didn't think he was.

Zevran tipped his head before smiling and moving into the room. His blond hair was tied back, exposing his long, pointed ears, and he looked around the room without actually moving anything. "I hope you are hungry!"

He noticed the ears, but why comment? "I could most certainly be persuaded to eat." The food at the office was revolting; the other Italian at the office had commiserated (he'd explained his differing word choices as dialect). "Have you located somewhere that serves something that does not resemble a rotted deer on the roadway?"

"Oh, I think I have eaten that before in Ferelden!" He chuckled a little and nodded. "Yes, there is a bar - called pubs here - that has food that I do not find entirely revolting. We can have a pint and some fish and chips." He smiled and put his hands in his pockets.

He had his own blades on him, just to be safe, and he watched the way his comrade moved. "Even if you had not told me your occupation, I would have guessed."

"Pubs. Yes, a man at my office said those can be acceptable." He didn't know what chips might be, but fish would suit him fine.

He moved around the room, looking for his coat - such a silly thing, made tight like a guardsman's, rather than a nobleman's cloak - and stopping in front of the blade case that had, to his delight, appeared a few hours ago. "Apparently it is discouraged to carry blades here; my favourite weapon might perhaps cause comment."

Then again. He opened the case on a whim, picking up the original Hidden Blade, the one that had belonged to his father. Perhaps it could be concealed? He felt naked without at least one of the blades on his wrists.

"It is, but I still do." He shrugged and smirked, languid gestures that came easily to him. "Though I will not be telling you where. Simply make sure they are not found."

He held it up. "Come. Look at this." Ezio held up the wrist brace, turning it over to show Zevran the construction. "It was a design of my ancestor, though originally, one had to remove their ring finger to use it. This has been modified so that is no longer necessary." It was comforting to see that the burn mark on his own ring finger was still there.

He turned the mechanism back over, slipping the brace on. It felt normal. "Very simple. Just raise your arm, and -" Ezio did so, in the opposite direction from Zevran, feeling the blade shoot out. Simple and deadly.

"That is beautiful, and ingenious." He smiled and shook his head. "I would have to get one from my boot to do similar things. Normally I would carry them on my back, but they seem to frown upon that here. It is most sad."

"I would wear two of these, and the sword of my ancestor at my hip." Ezio sighed. "He was a man named Altaïr; one of the original Assassins of our ... world." Caught up in a flight of fancy, it was almost as if he had forgotten where he was until that strange truth had tripped from his tongue.

He set the blade down abruptly and instead reached for a microscopic switchblade. It clearly was not enough for him; any fool could tell that.

"It is all right, friend. If anything, I will watch for anyone trying to attack you. And I know that the guild is not going to fret over you - I have told them that if you are a threat as a freelancer, than I will speak with you." He smiled. "You are amiable. I enjoy your company. But nobody here wants you to die."

That made him blink. "Guild? Freelancer? Were you sent here by someone?" Could he pick up the Hidden Blade again fast enough to counter? He could tell just by looking at him that this little man was very fast and very agile.

"I am in the guild here. They wanted to know if you would be looking to join, I said that I did not know. That is all. I was sent by my stomach, but they hardly have any interest in you." He patted his tummy, wincing as it rumbled.

Ezio looked wary. "I have never been part of a thieves' guild; I act alone." However, in a strange new place, it might be good to have support.

He looked uncomfortable. "I shall think on it. For now, shall we eat?"

"I will let them know. And yes, food is good. You look as if you have recently eaten lemons. Let's replace that with beer!" He motioned for his friend to walk with him, shaking his head.

"Beer is a German invention. In Firenze, we usually had wine. Therefore I am pleased to try this drink." Ezio managed to smile, ushering Zevran out and locking the door behind them. "I will have to ask you to lead; I am still unsure of where I am going."

"It is just down the block. You will like it, I think." He smiled and led Ezio a bit down the street, soon pushing a wooden door open to a tiny hole-in-the-wall pub. He went to a table, smiling at a waitress and holding up two fingers.

The smoke was at first oppressive, but once Ezio got used to it, he saw the tables, the bar - and the pretty waitress. He winked at her, and she blushed. She led them over to a side table, where one stood up, apparently, and handed over papers which Ezio assumed comprised the menu. From what little he remembered, beer was heavy. So he tried to look for something light to eat.

Zevran sprawled out comfortably, grinning at how his friend reacted to the waitress. He was amused that he was flirting before even he could, and he took a cursory glance at the menu. He was going to get what he'd gotten last time.

Ezio was looking through the menu and finally settled on a fish he thought he recognized. "What are chips? And what is the good liquor to drink?" He saw the grin, though, and could tell what was so funny. "Ladies like me."

"Chips are fried potatoes, and I ordered us two pints of beer. I do not know the variety, but it usually does not matter." He chuckled and shook his head. "Oh, they like me too, you just beat me to her."

Ezio genuinely laughed. "What can I say; I have a talent!" He smirked, leaning forward a bit onto the table. "I do not know what a potato is, but if something is not poisonous, I shall try it - at least once!"

"For being fast? Apparently!" He beamed at the waitress when their drinks arrived. "My friend and I are visiting from Italy, could we perhaps have orders of fish and chips?" He batted his eyelashes a little, knowing full well they were long.

Ezio rolled his eyes, amused. He did realize, though, that that was where Zevran's accent placed from, or at least it sounded like it. He sounded like a Romano, and Ezio said as much when the giggly girl promised to get their order fast, fairly hopping away. "You sound as though you are from my homeland, honestly. A bit further South than my home, but of the same "Italy". Should anyone inquire of you, that is."

"I usually say that I am from around." He shrugged. "Mystery, while being a good cover, is like honey to the bee of the women." He chuckled and sipped at his pint, licking away errant foam with his lower lip.

He eyed the drink warily; even without drinking it he could smell it. Still, there was no one here that wanted to poison him, as far as he knew. So, he picked up the glass and took a swallow - pleasantly surprised by its thick taste. "This is quite delicious."

"It is. I quite like it. It is like the ale of my homeland. And the wines here are similar, which is pleasing." He shrugged and smiled up at the giggling waitress when she returned with their food. "Thank you, pretty woman."

Ezio had to laugh. "Either desist or take her out like a gentleman," he teased, sipping the beer. He nodded at the woman as a thank you for the food, biting into a bit of breaded fish while she was still there, and making a pleased noise. "Mmmmmm."

"I would, if she would have me!" Zevran fluttered his eyelashes again, and shook his head. "Perhaps she prefers you, amigo?" He nibbled on the edge of a chip, sighing contentedly.

He watched her walk away, though he took pains not to be too obvious. "Perhaps. I prefer shorter ladies; they can surprise you." He smiled at a memory. "The deadliest woman I ever met was shorter than you and likely thinner as well." He missed Rosa, both as a compatriot and a bedmate.
