"Carrion wasn't dead, but he was terrible." She closed her eyes and enjoyed the fingers in her hair, sighing a little at how cool his touch was against her cheek. In their brief acquaintance, she'd found herself really coming to care for him, looking forward to his company as often as he could give it.
She smiled a little bit when she heard Lirael speak of the masks. "They are scary, but I don't know, I think Carrion's face was worse. He had terrible nightmares, and he had them pumped out of his brain into a ... sort of bowl that he wore around his head. You could see them swimming around him, like eels." She shuddered a little. "It was even worse when he looked at me with longing."
