Who: Henn Turner & Thomas Raith
Where: Coffee shop in NY
When: Thursday afternoon
What: Crazy random happenstance!
Warnings: Possible, but surprisingly unlikely

Henn was making her final list for party decorations, things had settled a little at home, and at the Guildhall, so she was using New York as a stopover between New Orleans and London.
What this really meant was that once she'd finished her window-shopping she'd gone to get horribly overpriced teadrink and bask in the fall-weather crowd at the two-tier Starbucks not too far from the Halloween shop she'd been at.

She was in the upstairs, sitting in a window corner and finalizing her lists and plans, sipping at her chai and occasionally nibbling at the thick slice of gingerbread on her plate. She liked the upstairs because she could still get the contact buzz from the people downstairs without actually being bothered, there were a couple of med students taking up one of the mostly-comfy couches on the other side of the room, cramming for a test, but besides the upstairs barista the place was empty.

She nodded, "It can be, but Jack's pretty easy to tell apart from the rest, even now that he's got a haircut, he's ..." She shook her head, brow creasing slightly, "He's Jack, that's really the only way to explain it."

She nodded then, "So, we've ruled out doubles, have you been in court recently? I'm an intern at Denny Crane's office out of Boston."

"Chicago." He tilted his head. He'd been to Court, a time or two. Not the kind of court she was referring to. "Never been to Boston. Guess I just have one of those faces people think they know." He smiled a slow, sly smile. He was surprised she wasn't throwing herself at him yet, he rarely met women who weren't attracted to him. He couldn't help it, it was the way he was made.

She smiled again, shrugging, "Guess so. Hasn't really happened to me before, and you did say that I was ... what was the phrase? 'Delightfully familiar'? Don't look like someone you know?"

She wouldn't deny that there was a pull, but as far as she was concerned it was something comfortable, part of that familiarity she felt, and it was still nagging away at her that she couldn't place it.

Thomas shook his head. He ran a hand through his hair. "Not especially. There is something familiar, I can't quite put my finger on it." He shrugged. he wasn't one to put a lot of thought in to such things. "I feel as if I know you, but then again not. It's difficult to explain."

She nodded, picking apart what was left of her gingerbread, apparently some of Cass' habits had rubbed off on her the same as some of hers had rubbed off on him, "I know what you mean." She shook her head then, "I don't get it, usually only notice this kind of thing with family, you aren't a distant cousin of the LeBeaus, are you?"

"Not that I'm aware. My father's name is Raith, my mother was Margaret LeFey." And considering both were several centuries old by the time he was born, well. He didn't have many ancestors he could really pin point.

"This might sound a bit off the wall, but bear with me. Are you a vampire?" He couldn't rule that out. He was a White Court vampire, more an incubus than anything. He wasn't affected by sunlight or garlic of any other so called vampire myth.

She shook her head, "Not as such, I'm an energy leech, but only on certain people, used to be able to do it to everybody, but then I found who I was supposed to stick to." She paused then, shaking her head again, "I'm a capital-S Shadow, or close as someone who's human can get, they might not have them where you're from, a lot of places don't."

She shrugged, "By ancestry though, and by offer from said ancestor, I could be a succubus, if the cards had fallen that way."

"Ancestry can be a bitch," Thomas nodded thoughtfully. Divulging too much information could be deadly. But then, he wasn't at home by any stretch of the imagination, and he doubted she knew about the wars raging against his kind. "I am an incubus, a vampire of the White Court. My monster doesn't care who he feeds from, as long as he gets what he wants. Keeping it in check isn't easy, but ever since Justine, I try not to let him loose. Leech a little here and there, by touch, not blood." He shrugged, a slightly sour taste touching his words and his expression at the idea of drinking blood. The rest was old hat to him, though his monster was never quite happy, or quiet, or calm inside of him anymore.

"Ah-ha." She said with a nod, "That explains it, I thought you felt like family." There was a small smile then, crooked and amused, that was something that ran in the family as well, "This place brings in all sorts. The world, not just the Starbucks."

She sat back, "I've always been able to pull energy off people, I only take the excess though, easiest way to explain it is that I take off whatever's colored outside the lines, people generate a lot of energy they don't even use."

"I'm a hair dresser. It's the easiest way to get my fix." He considered it nibbling, taking just a little, enough to quell his hunger, never satisfy it. He didn't like what he became, when he gave in to it, damn Harry's influence, making him want to be a better person.

He sort of felt a kindred spirit to her. She was like him in some ways, in ways no one else could relate to. His sister was too power hungry, his brother was...different. Harry was one of the real good guys. Hey, at least it gave Thomas something to aspire to, even if he knew he'd never really get there.

"Oh clever." She said, the crooked smile just spreading, "I wouldn't have thought of something like that. I was bartending before I got my internship, and I was good at that, might go back to it if the lawyering ever falls through."

"Bartending would probably be just as effective." Maybe not as immediate. Being a hairdresser, he had hands on his clients. There was a fine line, and he had to be careful not to cross it, every time like it was the first time.

"Not sure standing in a courtroom would have the same appeal." Thomas didn't have a high opinion of those who made and enforced laws, to begin with. Too many of them were power hungry.

She nodded, "A lot of people don't get it, especially given my family businesses, but I'm not really good at either of those, directly, so I figured I'd help in the way I was best at."

The crooked smile was back, "You might be surprised at how many cases I've helped win just by wearing the right blazer and stockings with seams up the backs." Then again, he might not, all things considered.

"Hey, whatever works, right?" Thomas gulped down what was left of his coffee. he didn't care for it once it cooled, and made a point not to let it get to that point.

"Something like that." She said, smile spreading, "Personally I just go for whatever's the most entertaining at the time." This was more or less true. She always figured it came from being the child of thieves and more thieves.
