Who: Malakai & Erik Northman
What: Meeting
Where: Club 13, NYC
When: Tonight.
Warnings: Uh. They're vampires, so if you're squicked by talk of blood? Yeah. Also swearing.

Somehow, this didn't particularly ruffle Erik's feathers, so to speak. He'd seen so much weird shit in his days that this was simply another unscheduled travel plan. A one-way ticket to a land he didn't know. At least he had some position of power, and some particularly interesting company in his first day. His interest in the changes, the differences of the world -- No Queen, no Sheriffs. He didn't know what to think of that. So he immediately began planning. This Malakai person, he had a synthetic blood subsitute - one that if it was any good, he'd be able to market exclusively in his club - and thus gain an upper hand to any other vampire in the city. From there, he could simply make a network of other vampires that were trustworthy and levelheaded, and they could keep peace within their own.

He was taking in the fresh air, so to speak, up on the rooftop lounge of the club, taking tallies of what kind of people were drawn into this club. He wanted to keep the general spirit of the place but start to twist and mold it to his liking. It was going to be a vampire club by the end of August, and he could make it happen. However, in his planning, he was also waiting for Malakai. He kept an eye on the entrance downstairs as he perched on the ledge of the building, waiting for the other vampire.

It was rather hard to miss the large, slightly swaggering man carrying a case of bottles into the nightclub, but then Kai wasn't the type to try and hide, anyway. The slightly perturbed looks of the doormen, the wary looks of the bar's patrons, only served to amused him as he made his way through the throng, toward the bar proper. A few questions, and a 'borrowed' pair of glasses later, and Kai was up the stairs, leaning in the doorway to the roof with the box out in front of him. A peace offering, of sorts.

"Interesting place. Yours, I assume?" The accent was Russian, one step above cliche'. At least it had the benefit of being genuine.

Erik stepped down from his stoop on the ledge, and offered a hand with the box, setting it down on a nearby table. "Apparently it is," he spoke, his own accent mostly American with just the fairest hint of Scandinavian weight behind his words. He held out his hand to shake with Malakai's. "Pleased to meet you in person. This evening has been rather productive, at least for me." He motioned to the chairs near the table, and walked that direction, himself.

His movements were gravitated generally from his broad shoulders and chest, and as he sat, he opened the box. "So, where is it that you are from? Russia, obviously, but the world, what was it like?" His curiosity about the possibility of other worlds was strong, though his expression never wavered beyond a mild disinterest.

Malakai shook the vampire's hand with a slight inclination of his head, ingrained respect. While he hadn't had use for the propriety in this universe, decades of diplomacy were something he found it hard to forget.

When Erik headed for the table, he followed, draping himself over the chair with a similar disinterested air; it was actually drunkenness, on his part, but it appeared the same. He plucked a bottle out of the box, twisting the top off as he considered the question.

"It was... near the end of its life, I fear. Between the dogs, and the war between Houses, humans were scarce. The cities were unlivable, the country had no food. It was not a good place. I hear, where you are from, there was a fight for rights, for vampires?" That was how it had started. But he didn't say as much, instead just taking a drink.

"Yes. The Revelation only happened a few years back, and many of us are still against it. It occurred when a Japanese company made a synthetic blood that couldn't be used for human transfusion, but is palpable to us and nourishes us as blood is able to. A vampire-owned company picked it up, and mass produced and marketed it, in time with the great Reveal. There are humans who support us and our cause, and some humans who even are mystified by the appeal, the draw. Though there are some institutions, some sects of humans, that think we're evil, that would do anything to destroy us." Erik pulled out a bottle and took a sniff of it, tilting his head with a considering expression, before taking a sip.

"It needs some tweaking," said Erik, "But it's good." He took another drink of it and looked around. "I'm considering remodeling. Making this a vampire club, like the ones we had in my world. If we could come to an agreement, Malakai, you and I could make a good profit off of this drink. Humans are also curious as to the taste - they will pay for a bottle just for a sip."

He listened to the story with a guarded interest, nodding in the right places, seeming to take in the information, making notes of the important pieces. At the comment about the tweaking, he shrugged, taking another drink of his own.

"It is a work in progress. For one old vodka maker from Romania, it is not bad." His head tilted, interested, at the mention of the club, an 'agreement'. "I will admit, I had considered going into business. But taking advantage of mortal naivete seemed... not in good sport, I suppose. I am still used to seeing them as an endangered species. It is just a pet project." There was a beat, as he took another drink.

"I am not above making a profit off of such a thing, though. If you were interested."

"They are charming as pets..." He muttered before taking another swig of the drink. "I am quite interested. If you and I were to strike a bargain - I help you market this drink of yours, you in turn give me partial rights to it and its distribution, with a little collaboration between us, I feel that it would make us quite rich, and if not rich, at least we'd be able to do a service to our kind."

He nodded at his own mental musings. If there were enough of their kind to market this drink, and to visit his club, there would be enough make a decent King of himself.

Malakai scoffed at the talk of pets, but didn't comment- he really didn't have room to talk, considering the various beds he'd been frequenting, since his arrival in this place.

"Were so many eager to give up humans, in your world?" It was slightly skeptical, but founded- the Sanguine had been a means of control, in his world; something he only continued in this place out of need. He hadn't really expected there to be a market for it.

"It was a fifty-fifty. There were some who prefer it, but that was slim as a market. It wasn't so much giving up, as the choice to replace. We still fed off humans, as I said. There are willing donors. Always have been and always will be those infatuated with the sting of fangs and the adoration of something beyond them. But those who simply are looking for a quick meal could go to any convenience store and pick up a bottle or case of TruBlood and be set for that. I prefer live meals, simply for the taste."

He swished the liquid in his bottle and leaned back, putting his free arm against the wide back of his chair. "Were the vampires in your world simply disinclined to find substitutes, or did you not have laws against creation? In our world, we aren't allowed to create another vampire unless we've got express permission from the higher ups. Of course, there's the rogue few who still do..."

He scoffed. "If they weren't dying by our hand, they were made into chew-toys, for the dogs. They volunteered. But no- no law. At least not of my House. As I said, it was a war. It would be strategically ignorant, to turn away a possible soldier, yes?" Even though there was only a one in seven chance the new vampire would be on their side. That was better than none. Malakai shifted to get comfortable, finding himself becoming a bit more at ease than he probably should have. Between the blood(like substance) and the alcohol he'd previously drank, he was comfortably inebriated, and more than a little curious, about it all. It always was a fault, of his kind.

Erik found himself at ease. He didn't have any need to worry about Hunters, he was perfectly capable of defending himself, by his strength or his abilities beyond that. And his companion for the night was an amiable one, though he didn't like hearing that Malakai's world wound up on the brink of extinction by the vampire's thirst for war.

"It seems that your world's vampires have no foresight. Your kind doomed themselves and their food supply with them. I have no pity for your world. Simply pity for you." He looked Malakai over with small, curious smile. "Dawn's only an hour away and we've much to discuss. I woke up in the basement here, there's a living space there. No windows."

There was a look of amused confusion, at the talk of pity. "We're not creatures of foresight, friend. I believe the phrase was, live fast, die young, yes? There is no need for pity. It suited me fine, when it was a life to have."

He hesitated just slightly at the mention of the dawn, before nodding his agreement. "Of course. Lead the way," As much as he was intrigued by the other, he wasn't quite foolish enough to mention his talisman, his immunity to the sun, just yet. He would see just how human the other was, first.

Erik took the box under one arm and stood again - He was a tall man, nearing six and a half feet, and easy to be followed even through a crowd of people down three floors and into a door that read 'employees only'. He held the door open and waited for Malakai, eyes fixed on the other man as he stood completely still. He had waited in vain for Pam to text or call him back all evening, and decided only moments ago that if she wasn't around, and none of his usual daytime companions were at his beck and call, that he'd suffice for someone else.

Once Malakai caught up to him, Erik started down a set of stairs that led from an employee lounge, down to another door, which she shouldered open and opened up to a rather posh sitting room with overstuffed plush leather chairs and a sofa, an all-too-modern glass table, and to the back of the room, a series of doors. The one that was open (and the only one that had a deadbolt) showed the corner of a bed on the other side. He set the box down, and sighed. "It's no home, but it will do for now. Have a seat. Now if you were to manufacture this en masse, how would you go about it? I imagine that you've got a vat of it in your garage out back of your home."

"It sounds rather... bohemian, when you put it that way," Which was fair, considering he looked like he walked out of some gypsy camp in the woods. He smiled a little to himself, taking a look around the room as he moved for a chair; he noticed the padlocked room, and considered it a second, but his comment was on the synthetic blood, and nothing more.

"But... essentially, yes. It would not be difficult to scale the formula up, use distillery like for moonshine. It is a simple fermentation vat, with a few modifications I could show someone how to do. After that, a bit of blood, a few other chemicals, and time. It is not complex." He took a drink from the bottle, moving to scratch one knuckle across his forehead.

"I assume you would have your bar be the only one to sell it. Would it be just this place, or do you have others?"

Erik shook his head, "I'd have this place sell it exclusively at first, but the more people who become aware of it, the more popular it will become, if it becomes popular at all." He took a seat in one of the chairs, putting one leg up on the other and spread his arms on the back of the couch. He practically claimed the chair, that way.

"Once it picks up in popularity, we can discuss selling it to other bars and at retail. That's the way most homebrews work."

He waved a hand. "Then there you have it." It may have seemed suspect, the way Kai took everything at face value, but he wasn't interested in the business side of things. He wasn't looking to do this for power; he was far more simple than that.

"I can get what we will need- buildings, supplies, machinery- while you adjust to this place. If you really wished it, I could have something to sell in a month, maybe less." It wasn't like there was anything else vying for his time- he had consistent meals, no family that particularly needed him anymore. It was this, or finding something to do; the 'this' option was probably a lot safer, for the city at large.

Erik rubbed his chin while he thought it over, and then shrugged. "If you need a forward of money to get things off the ground, I could possibly swing a couple grand. I took a look at the profits and although there's a financial recession right now, dance clubs and bars are still doing quite well. So, assuming that your estimates are correct, you can pay me back in the worth of the product, once there's product to be sold. That's another thing, you'll need to price it reasonably. It could be considered a specialty drink, so that could range anywhere from 4 dollars for 8 oz. of it to 8 dollars for 12 oz."

It was obvious that he had experience.

Kai smiled wryly at the offer. "That is kind of you, but I have no need for money," A few weeks spent in Las Vegas, when he first arrived, had taken care of that. "And the price sounds reasonable enough. Not what I used to get for my vodka, but then, these humans don't seem as naive. A trade-off, I suppose.

"Consider your investment the first cases you sell- I meant when I said, Erik, I am doing this to keep busy, no more. And you would not take advantage of that, yes?"

Erik was quick with a slight smile. "Of course not. I'm advantageous, but not with new business partners. If I'm to expect a long arrangement, one that will last as long as possible, I don't want to give you any reason not to trust me. It will behoove us both to take into consideration that if we market to our own kind, we will never not have a market."
