Who: Sophie Devereaux and Sam Ford
Where: Hospital Room
When: Visiting hours
Warnings: Oh, please. Of course not.

She'd been by to the hospital enough times to know the way without issue, and the nurses all knew her by sight. With a smile she sweeped by them, the smell of pizza preceding her into his hospital room. It was an odd time of day for a meal, but he was a growing boy, and he did seem to dislike the hospital food. With a smile she came around the corner, a bit surprised, although plesantly, to have caught him at a moment when he was both awake and alone. That was good... she had something she wanted to talk to him about.

"Hey there, tiger. Hungry?"

"Mmm," Sam said, sitting up a little in his bed. He still looked pale, but he was more alert than usual, and not feeling nauseated like he had been over the past few days. "Sophie, you're a goddess." His eyes were probably bigger than his stomach, but the pizza certainly looked better than the hospital fare.

"Pepperoni pizza, providing all four major food groups, for your dining pleasure..."

She smiled as she placed it on the rolling table, sliding it into place before moving around the bed and taking a seat on the edge, leaning over to kiss his cheek. "You look better, love. Holding up ok?"

"Strong as an ox," he said with a smile. He had good days and bad days. Today was one of the better ones. He suspected one of the nurses had been upping his morphine. Reaching for a slice took some obvious effort, and Sam was all too aware of the IV tubes sticking out of his arm.

"You're looking pretty hot yourself." He took a bite of pizza.

Sophie laughed, offering a bit of a noncommittal shrug. "It's what I do." She let him eat for a moment, trying not to wince at his wan appearance. "I'm surprised your father's not here... I didn't think you'd be able to pry him from your side. But it's probably good. I was hoping we could talk, Sam."

"Yeah, it took some doing, but I managed to convince him that humans need sleep, and he needed a shower. It wasn't pretty," he smirked.

He finished one slice of pizza, which was about all he could eat right now. "Talk?" He wasn't sure what was on her mind, and wasn't entirely sure he wanted to know. He and Nate were talking now, though, and that was something. "I know I'm irresistible and everything, but we should probably wait a while before making wedding plans, yeah? I'm only sixteen, and all."

Sophie offered a melodramatic sigh, her hand clasping her chest. "Only 16, but worth waiting for..." Grinning lightly, her hand left her chest and reach to muss his hair lightly.

"It's nothing so drastic as a marriage proposal, doll. I'm just going away for a while. Wanted you to know before I left."

He raised a brow, not so good at hiding his surprise now. "Going away?" he repeated. "Monte Carlo?" He knew she had a job offer there. His Dad had discussed moving down there, before he'd gotten sick. Somehow, he'd expected Sophie to put off those plans for now. He frowned a bit, the set of his eyebrows very like Nate's when he made the same expression.

"No, I don't think Monte Carlo. Very strange - I called to make arrangements, and it seems things are under new Management. I've not asked Eliot about it yet." She shrugged it off, her hand playing absently with his blanket. "I've got an opportunity in France, however. I thought I'd give it a go. You don't seem find of the idea."

"France, huh?" That stung more than it should. It was too much like his mom leaving them for the job in Paris. That pretty much shot down all of his ideas about Sophie and his dad. Obviously Nate and Sam couldn't join her.

He should tell himself it was just a job. She was going to Monte Carlo anyway. It's not like this was different. He shouldn't go down this line of questioning."Is this because of Dad? The drinking thing?"

"The drinking? No... honey, no." Sophie shifted to sit more next to him, an arm draping lightly over his shoulder, careful not to displace any of the tubes and wires surrounding him. "I'm not going forever, Sam." It really wasn't about the drinking... mre about being a crutch, but she wasn't sure how to explain it. She didn't want him annoyed at Nate, not for something that he hadn't done.

"I might not even be that long. The doctors see no reason why a full recovery isn't possible, and you're working things out with your father, which makes me very proud of both of you. But I feel it's best for you to work it out without me here." And she couldn't put her life on hold any more, or be Nate's keeper. Which, it seemed, is how he saw her. "They have phones there, you know."

"Without you here," Sam repeated, not sure if he was disappointed or annoyed. "Yeah, they have portkeys, too. You could be anywhere in the world when visitor hours are over. But we wouldn't be having a discussion like this if you were planning on being back here tomorrow after your show." He sounded a little bitter. He wasn't sure where that was directed, really. Life in general, maybe. Life sucked.

"Fine."

"It's not a show, Sam. It's an opportunity of different sort. The sort porting off doesn't really help with." At least, not unless things went south. As far as she knew, not everyone knew about the portkeys, and they could bring attention to her. She was too rusty to mess around with that sort of thing.

Watching him, his expression was enough to have consider her changing her mind.

"You're mad at me. Why?"

"No. Not at you." He shook his head a little. "All women leave me for Paris," he said with an overly dramatic sigh.

He should be glad that she was confident enough in his health that she felt like she could run off. It was the fawning over his hospital bed that should really worry him. Still, he did get scared. And having Sophie around had been comforting. "Just life. Sucks sometimes." Had he told Sophie? He shouldn't expect people to know things. "Mom went to Paris, y'know?" It was said emotionlessly enough.

"Ah." She nodded lightly. "Would it help if I told you I was going to Normandy, not Paris?" She offered an innocent smile, hugging him lightly with her arm. "Although they have some amazing shopping in Paris, and I'm not on Interpol's list..." Yet, at least. And she was a sucker for a good pair of shoes. Or dozen pair of shoes.

"I'm not leaving you, Sam. I'd like to say I won't be long, but. You never can tell. You shouldn't be feeling like life sucks. You're going to get better, and your father is here. I suppose I ought tel him I'm going as well, hm?" Although she was sorely tempted not to.

It did help, actually, that it wasn't Paris. Maybe it was silly, but it seemed a little better. He still would rather have Sophie around. She was family. And Nate needed her, too.

"Okay, well. You have to call. And stuff." He didn't care what she was doing, she could find time to call. He wasn't going to argue with her about life. He was pretty firm in his position that it sucked, but he saw no need to bring her down with him. Especially if she was starting a new job. "And don't get arrested."

It was a little disconcerting that the 'group' seemed to be falling apart. Sophie going on a job without his Dad, and she said she hadn't talked to Eliot either. If they were going to take jobs, Sam preferred that they do it as a group. They were better together. They were safer together.

"I will call. And if it's taking longer than I think, I'll make a point to visit. Fair? And I'll do my best on the arrest thing. Don't worry, doll." She smiled... She'd never gotten lectured on not getting arrested by a teen before, and was wondering if it was the first time he'd had that particular comment for her.

She still wasn't certain going was the best idea... but there was this need to go and do something. Anything. If she continued to wait she'd fall out of practice, and there were too many signs telling her there wasn't much to be waiting for.

"Want a souvenir? I can get you somethings shiny."
