Who: Eliot Spencer and Tachikoma
Where: Formerly Pumpkinhead Estates
Warnings: Emo-pants

Tach was in a bad state. She was sad and angry and she didn't know how to handle all of these negative emotions. She wasn't used to having them. Even after what had happened with Seth, Tach had bounced back quickly. She had been a little nervous for a while, but she hadn't felt like this.

She hadn't slept in days. She knew it wouldn't bring Merv back, but she was angry at Dream. She didn't have a way to get back at him, but this seemed like a way to get back at him. She didn't want to have anything to do with Dream. She didn't want to dream. She'd been taking caffeine pills, like the ones Seth had used to keep her awake. She'd nodded off every now and then, but it had been days since she'd actually slept.

The doorbell sounded strange and far away. It was a few moments before she realized what the sound was. She made her way to the door and pulled it open. It took more effort than usual to open the door. She looked exhausted and jittery. She didn't even feel happy to see Eliot.

"Hey. I came as soon as I could get here." He stepped inside, gaze sweeping over her. "You look like shit," he said without bothering to filter his thoughts. Chances were good she knew she looked awful, and Eliot wasn't one to pussy foot around the truth like that, unless it was part of a con.

She didn't react to the statement. She shrugged a little, her right shoulder twitching more than the other. She took a step back and sat down on the floor, looking at her socked feet. "Yeah." Her voice was hoarse, lower. "Duncare."

"Yeah? Well, I do." Eliot pushed a hand through his hair. "I don't have many friends, and I'm not going to lose the ones I have to...whatever this is. He's gone, you're not. You're allowed to be sad, but you're not allowed to make yourself sick."

She frowned, shrinking back a little. Her gaze still didn't lift above his knees. 'Whatever this is', indeed. "I'm not sick," she said, frowning. She leaned forward, pressing her hand to her forehead. "I'm not."

"Not sleeping makes a person sick, Tach." Eliot shook his head. "When was the last time you had something to eat?"

"I'm not a person. I don't wanna be a person." She sniffled. She wanted to go back to where she was a tank, and Batou was there and she was a useful part of the team. She didn't like being in this giant house with no one. she wanted to go back. "I don't know... I eat..." She didn't remember the last time she did anything. Everything blurred into each other.

Eliot shook his head. "This guy really worth all this? Cause if you don't give a shit about yourself any more, I'd like to know, and I won't bother either." He knew he was lashing out, and his harsh methods were as likely to fail as succeed, but Eliot was not a care giver. He didn't know how to comfort someone, so he went to opposite direction and brow beat them.

Tach slumped forward over her legs, her chin resting on her knee as she looked at the floor. Maybe she'd made a mistake. She'd invited Eliot because he wasn't loud and annoying like Gir, and maybe partly because he reminded her of Merv. He had a gruff exterior, but inside he was sweet. She wondered if she could've irritated Merv enough to make him say something like that. She was loud and annoying too, she knew.

"He taught me how to be human," she said, tears starting to pool in her eyes. "He taught me how to sleep. To eat. He taught me everything."

"So, now what? He's gone, so you're just going to forget everything he ever taught you? Yeah, that's smart. That'll show him." Eliot sighed, hand going to his hair.

"I don't want to go there," she said, starting to cry. "I don't want to be there without him. I always felt like he made my dreams special for me. I don't.. I don't want to see them without him." She raised her arms to cover her head.

"You can leave if you want." It was obvious he didn't want to be around her.

"I'm not leaving until you eat and sleep. At least sleep. And then I might not leave, anyway." Eliot wasn't going to leave, he was worried about her. Maybe he was going about it wrong, being harsh with her, but he didn't think this was a time for wearing the kid gloves. She didn't need that. She needed to be bullied into compliance.

"I'm not tired.." she said, more of a statement than an actual attempt to protest. It was true to an extent.. There was so much caffeine in her system that she was too wired to fall asleep right away. She was exhausted, but awake. "Why are you being so mean?"

A small mouse lemur scurried up to Eliot. He'd been ready to bite at the man's ankle, but after Eliot spoke--which the lemur seemed to watch with startling intelligence--Vynnie climbed up the man's clothing to get to a perch on his shoulder. Tach needed to sleep. Vynnie was on Eliot's side.

"Why are you being so unreasonable?" Eliot retorted. he put a hand up to let the lemur sniff him. "When you start being reasonable, I'll stop being mean."

"I'm not being unreasonable," she said, looking up at him with a pout. "I can't sleep now, I took too many of those pills." She sighed, pushing herself up with her hands. "Will you stop yelling at me if I eat?"

Vynnie sniffed once at Eliot's fingers, but seemed much more interested in the smell of his hair and ear. A tiny furry muzzle and whiskers brushed over the man's ear and neck.

Tach walked into the kitchen, not looking behind her to see if he was following. She slouched more than usual as she walked. Opening the fridge, she stuck her head in to look at what she had. She pulled out a couple of carrots and closed the fridge as she chomped on the end of one.

"Fine, but no more pills," Eliot arched his brow. The attention to his neck was a bit unnerving, but he didn't have the heart to make the little guy stop.

"All right? Tach? No more pills."

"Okay. No more pills," Tach agreed. She still sounded upset, but she didn't have the will to fight him anymore. She gnawed at her carrot, her back still to him.

She opened the door to the outside, stepping out into the dark night. The dew soaked her socks as she started across the lawn.

Eliot followed, with the lemur still on his shoulder. He figured the animal could fend for himself, if he needed to.

"Where are you going?"

The lemur, normally nocturnal by nature, didn't seem terribly pleased to be outside at night. He darted down inside Eliot's shirt. He was smart enough to turn and grip his tiny claws into the inside of the man's shirt rather than his chest.

The new stable wasn't too far from the house, and Tach let the structure speak for itself as an answer to Eliot's question. She pulled the keys from the chain that hung round her neck and used them to unlock the padlocks on the stable door. "I'm not tired," she said again. She wasn't going to get sleepier sitting in her bedroom staring at the wall.

"You were there when I picked it out," she said, confused by his confusion. She hoped he wouldn't yell at her about this, too. In Eliot's defense, most people spend more time thinking about a decision like buying a stable and horses. They weigh the pros and cons and take time deciding who to hire, etc. etc. Tach didn't work that way. That she already had a stable and two horses, just a few weeks after they'd first gone looking was surprising.

After unlocking three different locks--a surprising number, considering how trusting Tach seemed to be--she opened the door to the stable. She called softly to the horses as she approached, cooing to them. First she went to a chestnut mare, offering her one of the carrots in her hand.

Further down was a tall, black stallion. Tach tossed a third carrot to Eliot.

"Well, yeah, but I didn't know you bought one. And horses." Eliot caught the carrot she tossed him without much effort. He had quick reflexes, and catching things was second nature to him.

"What's his name?" he asked, eying the horse as he approached the stall.

"Why else would I be looking at them?" she asked, petting the mare's nose.

"That's Feefee," she said. She'd named him after Sophie. It was a cute name for a horse, she thought. The mare she'd named after Eliot. "This is Chip," she said, letting the horse finish the carrot.

"Feefee," Eliot repeated. he nodded, and offered the carrot. As far as he could tell, they looked like good stock horses. "And Chip," he looked over to the one Tach was feeding.

She nodded. "I was gonna ask you to look at them with me, but you were busy, I think." It was good she hadn't waited for him. They made her feel a little better, now.

She took another bite of her carrot, which Chip tried to grab. "This is mine," she told him gently. "You finished yours."

"They're pretty, right?"

"Can you help me?" she asked, reaching up over the horse. Under normal circumstances, she could've gotten up on the horse on her own. She was tired, though, and her muscles weren't working right. She didn't want to mess with the saddle this late. She wasn't planning on running any races right now.

Tach nodded. She was glad Eliot was coming. After all, she wasn't a very experienced rider yet. With Eliot's help, she made it up on Chip, and she took the reigns Eliot gave her.

It was always a little weird for Tach to ride on anything else. She was used to being the vehicle, not being carried places--not on land, anyway. She'd been on boats and planes and such. Nevertheless, she was a natural rider. She had good balance and looked perfectly at home on Chip's back.

"Give me a minute to get Feefee ready to go," he patted Chip's neck. He would not be happy if Tach went off without him. he'd catch up, that wasn't the point. He wasn't sure he trusted her not to go off on her own, just then. He was worried about her, and her judgment.

"Okay." Tach shifted forward, leaning against Chip's neck and burying her face in the horse's mane. She waited patiently for Eliot, nuzzling Chip and talking to her, telling her what a pretty and good horse she was.

Tach sat up some, urging Chip forward. She didn't have a particular agenda, and she certainly wasn't going very fast. "I want a puppy," she said, mostly to herself. It was too dark to see much.

Chip stopped walking, recognizing Eliot's tone if not his words. It took Tach a little longer to respond. She unwrapped her arms from Chip and turned a little to face Eliot. "Down?" she asked, sounding like a sleepy toddler as she reached a hand to him for help. Falling would be bad.

"You are impossible, you know that?" Eliot pulled Tach over to sit in front of him on Feefee. it wasn't easy, by any means, but he managed to get her settled, and to hold on to Chip's reigns at the same time. He slowly guided the two horses back to the stable.

The horses were both very obliging. They listened to Eliot as well as they wouldve listened to Tach. Chip would've followed Feefee and Eliot even if he wasn't holding her reigns.

Tach was asleep before they were back in the stable, head resting against Eliot's shoulder.

She groaned softly, barely conscious as Eliot helped her down from the horse. As Ellie put the horses back, Tach yawned and laid down on the hay, curling up and falling back to sleep.

With Tach asleep in the hay, Eliot took care to bed the horses down, then washed himself up, before carrying Tach inside. He put her in her bed, and pulled the covers up to her shoulders. He settled himself in a chair, keeping watch over her.
