A lot of the people who had followed them were waiting outside. Dick half expected someone to tell him to take his shirt off again. But no one said anything. Evidently no one knew any reason they shouldn't be married. Dick certainly didn't.
"Richard, repeat after me."
Dick didn't need to repeat. He knew how vows went. Looking into Carrie's eyes, he said, "I, Dick, take thee Carrie, to be my lawfully wedded wife, to have and to hold, for better or for worse, in sickness and in health, for richer or poorer, 'til death do us part."
