Dick laughed loudly enough that a couple people gave him a look. He ignored them. "Well, give me a heads up next time you do plan to freak out. That way I can be sure not to say the stupid thing I always say to make bad situations worse." His laughter gradually faded. He looked Carrie and studied her nervous tells as best he could through the dim haze of alcohol.
"It is. My parents... my real parents, that is... they were happy together. And I know that a lot of kids think that about their parents when they're ten, but they really, really were. I didn't even know what divorce was until after I was staying in St. Jude's Orphanage." He took a drink and pressed on. "And I've known a lot of people with a lot of problems since then. But I've also seen Wally and Linda. And I've seen Ralph and Sue Dibny, and you can't know those two and not believe in marriage, you just can't. So yeah. It's important to me."
