He hugged her close. "No diamond form. Putting off your emotions doesn't help you deal with them. God knows I'm an expert at that." He continued to stroke her back. "I'm sorry, Sophie. I do love you. But I need to be on my own. What I need in a family isn't here. And you don't really want me to pretend. I'll always be your brother, and you'll always be my sister. We're not less of a family because we're apart."
He kissed her cheek softly. "You can yell and scream and cry and call me names all day long, but don't shut me out. That's not how family works."
