Codex waited anxiously for everyone to arrive across the street from Kael's place. She was trying not to think about the situation too much. She didn't want to be the leader. She was sure she wouldn't be able to make the tough decisions. Seeing Al'ar burst into flames was a shock. Codex thought she and the bird had started getting along. But Kael wasn't himself anymore, and neither was the bird.
She wrapped her arms around herself, looking up at the building. It was deceptively quiet. She shivered in the cold. She hadn't left the area since she'd fled the building, and hadn't brought a jacket with her.
There were several people on the way. She wasn't sure it would be enough. She took a deep breath, rocking back and forth on her feet.
