Who: Malakai and Rurik
What: A(n unwelcome) blast from the past
When/Where: Tonight, Rurik's shop, USA
Warnings: Swearing, vampirism, mentions of abuse and sexual situations likely.
Note: Kai is taking part in the Time Warp, being sent to 100 years in his own past. That puts him at about 1908, where he is much more a typical vampire; crass, violent, and insane. Any italic text is spoken Russian, since Kai's English would be less than fluent at this point.

Malakai's reentry into the waking world was slow, resentful, as he felt the dull throbbing of a hang over assaulting his eyes before they were even open. He took a mostly-unnecessary breath to try and relax the muscles of his face, which led him to notice a few strange things. First, he was no longer in Russia. The air was too... dirty, almost chemical, to be his home. Secondly, there was no trace of the scent of blood in the air, which meant that wherever he was, it was not around vampires.

Thirdly- and most strange- was a familiar human scent pervading the air and, not that he thought of it, a weight at his side. One eye craned open to see a greyed head near his chest; not who he was thinking, and definately not a woman. He grumbled, giving the body a rough shove.

"Come now, off. This is no hotel,"

Kai's head cocked to the side just slightly, the blunt side of the knife drawing a line down his skin before he removed it and sat back. He was slightly off his guard, thanks to the almost complete lack of fear in the man.

"Fine." He pried himself away, standing and moving back to the bed. "Let us start with where we are." Rurik's English was much better than his, and while he could recognize it from other languages, he couldn't read or speak it.

"Thank you," Rurik offered a small smile. He didn't care for the knife, but he didn't think it wise to try to take the weapon from Kai. If he was correct in his assumption that Kai had been affected by some spell that sent him back in time a hundred years or so, Rurik thought he was mostly safe from the vampire's instability. He was a willing food source, and his blood was strong. Kai wouldn't kill him, so long as he bared his neck.

"WOuld you tell me, then, what year it is?"

He dropped back to the bed, watching the witch warily; something was off. Rurik was acting far too calm to be as confused as Malakai and that was incriminating, in his eyes. "What do you-?" Malakai sighed, scrubbing a hand over his face. "I- 1910? 1912? You know I do not care for such things."

Rurik nodded. "I thought as much. I don't know any witch powerful enough to send you back in time, Kai. It's 2009. We've passed into the 21st Century."

That answer obviously wasn't good enough, Kai shoving his legs into a pair of nearby sweatpants before launching off the bed again, to loom over the man. "No witch but you, Markov. I suggest you find an explanation, and very quickly." The threat effectively delivered, Kai reached down to pry Rurik up by his arm, mouthing along his neck. He needed to feed, so he could go out and start looking for answers himself.

Rurik felt the wall at his back and the force of Kai's weight against his front. The vampire had him by the arm, in a very delicate position. If he tried to break away, first off he wouldn't get very far, secondly, Kai's grip would likely break his arm. Healing, and especially self healing, was not one of Rurik's strengths.

"I didn't do this, Kai. Why would I? You were sleeping in my bed, or did that escape your notice?" antagonising Kai was not a wise choice, Rurik knew, but he hoped if he kept calm and indifferent to his attack, Kai would realise he was sincere.

He scoffed into Rurik's skin at that, not even bothering to pull back to answer- he knew the witch had the sense to keep him contanied when he was drunk. The fact that he was also in the bed was strange, yes, but if he'd been drunk as well- or, say, drained by a spell- he wouldn't have had it in him to move.

After a moment of silence, just long enough to have Rurik anticipate what was going to happen, Kai bit down roughly, pulling the blood forward by sucking harshly on the skin. It wasn't intimate, it wasn't kind- he was hungry, and wanted to get answers as quickly as possible.

Rurik gasped, and his head fell back to thud against the wall. There was a harsh memory in the bite, reminiscent of their early days. He thought to struggle and force his way out of Kai's grip, but knew there would be harsh consequences if he tried. He grit his teeth and fisted his hands, eyes squeezed shut as the ruthless vampire took his blood.

The only silver lining to Kai's harsher nature was that the encounter wasn't drawn out. He was able to drink his fill in only a few minutes, releasing Rurik back to the wall after a quick healing press of the lips to his skin.

That done, he moved back to the piles of clothes, dressing himself haphazardly.

Rurik slumped against the wall. Kai had drained him, leaving just enough blood that he wouldn't die. He could feel the slow, steady thrum of the remaining blood flowing through him, the thump of his heart struggling to keep a steady beat. He was dizzy, light headed, unable to move, the effect as damaging as a drug designed to paralyse the limbs.

Unable to do anything more, he closed his eyes and focused on slowing his breath, to allow his blood to heal his body. A hundred years earlier, he would have surely died, but Kai had underestimated him, this time. Rurik wasn't so sure it would happen again, and while he mimicked sleep, his mind worked to consider ways he could contain Kai until he could figure out the expanse of the spell the vampire was under.

First and foremost, he had to figure out who, or what, was behind it. And why.
