Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Entry tags:anteros, nathaniel quinn, satriel

Who: Nathaniel Quinn, Satriel, and Rain, with a possible cameo by some of Rain's memories?
What: Getting their drink on. Angel disapproval, and accusations of deception. A Saturday night.
When/Where: Backdated to last night, Rain's flat in London.
Warnings: Possible swearing, and alcohol consumption, but none if Satriel can prevent it. He's a prude.

Nathaniel, the whiskey, and a surly angel-presence appeared at Rain's door just shortly after the conversation had ended. The man they had replaced appeared to be something of a lush, and they had the Wild Turkey on hand. Satriel had done his best to guilt the priest into refusing the temptation, but he seemed to be losing the battle tonight.

"Commisseration is part of my function, same as yours, you old Prude. Leave it be," It still shocked Satriel, how quickly their conversations had devolved in this place, from respectful meetings of minds to common bickering, and he made that known with a feeling, which only made Nathaniel's frown deepen. "Well, perhaps that's thanks to the lack of social interaction, in which case, this is a Godsend," Yes, he used the phrase just to get a rise out of Satriel, and hopefully annoy him into silence. It seemed to work, as he raised a hand to knock.

"Rain? It's Nathaniel," He opened the door as instructed, looking around as he let himself inside.

"Do come in," Rain called fro what passed as a kitchen, in the flat. It was little more than a 10x10 square pushed off to the side. Very unbecoming, for a man he thought he might like to cook.

"Oh, delightful," he let his eyes drift to the bottle of Wild Turkey. He opened one cupboard, then another until he found the glasses. Not a shot glass to be had. He hadn't enough luck to replace a lush.

"Shall we?" He set two glasses on the counter. "You do the honours, no?"

"I-" The bottle was offered out, Nathaniel seeming conflicted about it all; obviously, Satriel wasn't going to make this easy on him.

"Shouldn't. You go ahead. I'm not a huge fan of the stuff," With the lack of a collar, and addition of a five o'clock shadow, Nathaniel hardly looked the part of a man of God, and with the lack of focus in his life lately. He was starting to feel the same way.

"You know what? Go ahead and pour me one. I could use it, after all."

This time, he could reach for the glass without hesitation; Satriel seemed to have backed off for the moment.

Rain poured the two glasses, and if his ended up a little more generously filled than Nathaniel's, well. He didn't think Nathaniel would call him out on it.

"I hope the evening finds you well?" He offered a bit of small talk. Not his forte, really, but then, he barely knew what he liked or didn't like.

Nathaniel, gave a little shrug, taking a small sip of the burning liquid. He was far from practiced at this sort of thing, at least in this context, but the smalltalk was a good sign at least.

"I'm alright, yes. This... place has left me with more questions than answers, and I tend to hole myself away in my studies, but at least it doesn't leave much time for boredom. Have you found anything out, about your life here?" Finding he liked the drink a little more than he figured, he took another sip, feeling the buzz of annoyance the realization caused. What was the big deal?

Rain pulled a long sip, and seemed to have to pry the glass off his lips. "Tell me about it," he said after a moment. "I have apparently replaced a stage actor, here in London." He shrugged. "I've a feeling the dear boy is going to be a no-show for his performance. Other than that..." He shook his head and took another drink. "I haven't any idea."

"At least they set you close to home, sounds like," The man had the accent of an Englishman, London Metro, as far as Nathaniel could tell. "'Found myself in Rome, then the States, haven't even managed to head back home," His accent was Scottish, and he didn't feel like getting more specific than that. People seemed to treat him differently, after the revelation that he was a layman.

Or after finding out he had an Angel in his head, but that at least was founded. The Angel in question was still shifting about uneasily, as if trying to gain control without forcing the other man out. He might look slightly uncomfortable, but he hid it behind another burning sip of the whiskey.

"Sounds as if you're not too far, just now." England, Scotland, who was counting? It wasn't terribly far, in the scheme of things. "I feel a longing desire to go to Greece." Rain shrugged. "I'm not sure why, other than the history. I've always been fascinated by the Greek Gods."

The noncommittal noise that escaped Nathaniel's mouth wasn't his own, and he glared into the glass, taking a longdrink of the glass to try and bite the strange feeling back.

Unfortunately for him, the more inebriated he became, the easier it was for Satriel to impose, and he finally shifted his stance, moving from one mind to the next.

"What do you know of the Greeks?" The cadence of his voice was just slightly different, more formal, but it could have been compensation from the alcohol.

"Not nearly enough, I'm afraid." Rain smiled. "But I am fascinated, just the same. To think of standing on the very grounds where the Gods once dwelled, is it not incredibly romantic?" He looked to Nathaniel, catching the shift of his voice, but attributing it to the alcohol.

"The Parthenon, the Acropolis." His voice was slightly wistful. "The Colosseum. Amazing history, in those places."

"There are those that believe that the Gods never left; they were simply usurped, for other traditions, other religions." Still Satriel, as his eyes searched the man's face, trying to glean some sense of the falsehood he was being presented. It was a pretty inane thing to lie about, especially if he didn't know Nathaniel (and Satriel's) faith. But he knew there was some lack of truth to the man, and he wasn't going to let it affect him, or his human charge.

Rain nodded. He had no clue he was under such intense scrutiny. Nor did he realise that simply thinking he felt warm caused the buttons of his shirt to open without him making a move to unbutton them. He sighed, unaware he was giving the other a subtle but concrete clue that all was not as it seemed, because he wasn't aware he was something other than an average man in a new world.

"I have heard that, myself. How fascinating it would be, if it were true. How curious, to think any man or woman you meet by chance might in fact be a God of olden times."

Satriel felt the shocked withdrawl of Nathaniel, a concession that once again, the Angel was better suited for this particular conversation.

"Things like that happen here, you know. Gods and Godesses, Angels and Demons. Real as anything, walking among humans." He sighed, running a hand through his hair.

"Take myself, for example. I was the Throne of Revelation, some time and one universe ago. Hence, this conversation of half-truths and omissions is getting rather tiring. Please, don't feel like you have to hid simply because you are not my Creator." He bristled a little, setting the now-empty glass of whiskey aside as he settled back to watch the man's- god's?- reaction.

Rain downed the remainder of his drink, and wished he had more. His glass instantly filled. That caused him to drop it and step back, shocked.

"I..." He looked up at the other man, shock clear and unrehearsed in his face. "What...how did you...Are you...?" He thought perhaps Nathaniel was a God, as he spoke of. How intriguing, he thought, entertaining the idea even as he rejected it out of hand. he couldn't possibly believe it.

"I didn't, and I'm not. You did." He couldn't say with certainty that Rain was anything, until the man had the thought himself. He could only cement truths in other's minds, not draw them out. He was too far removed from his Place, considerably weaker.

"No. I..." Rain shook his head. "I..." Another shake. He reached up to scratch at his neck. "What are you saying? Are you suggesting that I..." Another, more intent, shake. "That's preposterous."

Satriel frowned, even as he nodded once again. "I am suggesting that you might be... something more than human. You have some sort of memory loss, something that keeps me from seeing your truths. The only beings I can't offer insight to, are those not of my God's creation." A beat, as a shoulder rose in a shrug. "It fits,"

"You're telling me..." Rain shook his head. "I'm a God. A God among men." He pursed his lips together, nodding. He thought about it for a moment. "What God do you suppose I am? Zeus? Hercules? Hermes? Ares?" The last two had a slight lilt to the pronunciation. Rain frowned.

"None of those. You would know, when you said it. But like I said, I cannot help you with much, due to your status. Your best bet would be to find another, and ask them." He noticed the frown, and sat forward, resting a hand on his shoulder.

"There is no law stating you have to find out, if you do not wish to. But I do believe it would help you with your memory."

"I'll...take that in to consideration." his voice was a bit distant. He was trying to work things out in his head, but he kept coming up to a blank wall. "For now, would you care for more to drink?"

Satriel shook his head firmly, offering up an apologetic smile. "I do not imbibe, as a rule. Nathaniel is the one looking to explore his free will, I am simply a casualty of discovery, I believe."

"Oh. Oh, no. I-" He made a small face, shaking his head just slightly. "Nathaniel is my vessel. We are... separate entities, sharing this body. We were rather flung together, in our last universe, and I have not found a way to leave him be, yet," Not that they hadn't looked. But they were hoping for some... 'conventional' way to do it, not relying on magic, or any of the world's other gods.

Rain nodded, as he processed what the other man said. "I...see." he didn't, exactly. So, the idea that I might be a God isn't so far fetched, to you."

Satriel shook his head more firmly at that, giving a noncommittal motion of his hands. "I've met my Lord here as a woman, various angels and demons, other deities. If there is one thing I have learned, in this place, it is that my Truth does not necessarily hold true for all others. It was... distressing, at first, but now I find it utterly fascinating."

"I see," Rain said, though he didn't see. It was all so confusing. He needed a bit more to drink. He looked at his glass as he thought the thought, and his glass refilled itself. He nearly dropped it in shock, but sipped it instead.
