Carrie hadn't been comfortable before. Now, she was tensing because her discomfort level was insanely high. Bruce showing emotions wasn't something she had ever grown used to. The fact that she might have spied unshed tears in his eyes and that he'd fallen to his knees unnerved her to the point that she took two steps back.
"Stop that," Carrie said, her voice high and thin. Her hands were balled into fists. She was aching to throw a punch, but she couldn't hit an old man while he was begging. "Get up." Her arms were around her middle for comfort now, not for a show of attitude. Carrie wished Dick were here. She wouldn't have felt small and weak if he'd been beside her, backing her up. "Don't..."
