Who: Hank and Anya
What: Coming to pick her up after her loss
When: Today
Where: The school, home, unknown.
Rating: TBD

Hank drove swiftly, and carefully, and with all speed, not wanting Anya to have to wait. She had been at the school when she got the call, and he felt bad, already, for not being there. In the time it took him to portkey in, and get a car, and start to her, he felt like things were out of his hands, out of control. And he hated it.

His wife was grieving and he could not help. This world, this unknown enemy, had hurt his wife and there was no way to strike back, no way to stop it, no way to help, save to be there for her. A growl came from deep in his stomach, and burst out of him, almost a roar as it did so, and his hands clutched the steering wheel with such intensity that it almost twisted in his hands.

And he drove, finally sliding to a stop at the school and bounding out in a hop that nearly cleared the entire space to the doors from where he had parked at the curb.

He hurried forward.

Anya had taken the call in her class room and had to excuse herself. Emma Frost had come down to cover for her, and initially Anya thought she would just need a few minutes to compose herself. She was still in shock. Hank was already on his way when Emma gently suggested Anya go home and take the rest of the day off. Anya was in the teacher break room now, her face in her hands. Class was still in session, so the break room was quiet.

Hank kept moving, his expression quickly disadvising anyone who might have thought to ask his business there of the idea, and he tracked toward the staff areas, reasoning, as he thought Emma might think, that a distracted teacher would not be one to have in classes.

It took him a little while, but he found her, and moved to her side, one hand rising to place the gentlest touch on her shoulder.

"Anya..."

She stood quickly, turning toward Hank to move into his arms. Her tears were wet against his neck as she buried her face against him. Her breathing was short and staggered. "Oh, Hank.."

Feeling his heartbeat against her chest calmed her some and she leaned into him, her full weight shifting to him. She was exhausted from so much crying, but she couldn't stop. She remembered her mother's death, and how hard it had been.

He hugged her close, stroking her back.

"I am so sorry, love. He will be missed."

He shivered. Death was no stranger to the X-Man, and he had attended fasr too many funerals. This one hit close to home. he had hionestly liked the man, so different from his own world's Magnus, and he wished he had taken more time to know him.

"Come. Let's go home."

She nodded, feeling a bit numb as her husband led her out of the school to the car. The tears were wearing themselves out, now. Her hand didn't leave Hank's the whole way home; feeling his warm touch was reassuring.

Her father. He had meant so much to her. She had been told of the atrocities of the other versions of him from alternate universes, but he was a good man. She had been so happy, with her new marriage and Lorna's.. It made the crash harder. Less than a month ago she had been dancing with her father at her wedding. She gripped Hank's hand tighter.

When they arrived home, he hugged her again and ushered her, carefully, into the kitchen, where he made tea, hot and spicy, and handed her a large mug of it.

"Drink up, love, it will make you feel better, I hope."

And he sat next to her and stroked her back, unsure what to say, what to feel now, save that his wife was in pain and he knew not how to help.

Anya took the tea and drank in silence, trying to formulate her thoughts. "I.. I wish I understood," she said softly. "The police could not explain what happened, only that he was.. Gone." Anya took a shaky breath. Her words sounded strange to her, as if they were coming from a different person's throat. She couldn't even be certain which language she was speaking in, English or Romani.

She sat down in one of the chairs at the table, her hands cupped around the warm mug. "I am worried about Wanda. It was very hard for her when our mother died.. In my world."

He gently stroked her arms and was there for her, listening.

"Would you like me to try to see what I can find out?"

Then he nodded.

"And would you care to visit her? Sometimes... sometimes shared grief helps?"

Anya nodded. "Soon. Once.. Once I am a little stronger." She had stopped crying, but her voice still wavered a bit. She wanted to be there for her little sister, but she didn't want Wanda to feel like she had to take care of her.

He nodded and stroked her face softly.

"Take the time you need. You do not have to do anything you do not want to."

His voice was soft and his eyes shone with his love for her.

Anya left the chair, leaning into Hank's arms. He was strong and warm and could hold her up. He was strong.

"Thank you," she said softly, her eyes closing as she let her head rest against him. At least she had Henry.

He held her, and stroked her back, just soft hands and a warm heart.

"I love you, Anya, and whatever you need, I will do."

"I just.. I think I would like to lie down." It was early in the day, still, and she didn't have a habit of taking naps, but the dark and warmth of the bed sounded comforting.

She looked up at him. "Come with me?"
