Ganieda watched anxiously from her bedroom window. She was more afraid than annoyed and felt horrible and foolish for trying to make her mother see how stupid it was to quit school and have no way of making a decent living.
And now they were fighting and it was her fault. Or at least it felt as if it was.
When she saw Sam's car pull up outside, she grabbed her bag and hurried out.
"Where do you think you're going?!"
She froze. He had never really directed any yelling at her before. "I'm going to see a friend."
"Go ahead, Gani," her mother said. "I'll see you tomorrow after school."
She rushed out of the apartment just in time to hear something smash against the wall. She hurried outside and got into Sam's car, practically throwing herself into his arms, breathless.
She hadn't intended to stay out all night but now it looked like she probably should.
