He was worried about Ganieda, worried about her living situation, worried about her mom, and worried that it would go really wrong, really fast. He wanted to protect her, even as he did not know how, and he feared that if anything happened, it would be when he was not around. And that would kill him.

He raced down the roads, using back streets, moving as fast as he could. He had a baseball bat in the backseat, in easy reach, and he was ready, if fearful, should something happen. God, he wished he knew how to help her, how to make this right.

What the hell did he, a young guy from Nowheresville, know about helping people?

Nothing, maybe, but he knew he had to try.

As he turned down her street, he slid the lights down, and slowed to a saner speed, eyes on her building and everything around him, tense, and worried.

Ganieda watched anxiously from her bedroom window. She was more afraid than annoyed and felt horrible and foolish for trying to make her mother see how stupid it was to quit school and have no way of making a decent living.

And now they were fighting and it was her fault. Or at least it felt as if it was.

When she saw Sam's car pull up outside, she grabbed her bag and hurried out.

"Where do you think you're going?!"

She froze. He had never really directed any yelling at her before. "I'm going to see a friend."

"Go ahead, Gani," her mother said. "I'll see you tomorrow after school."

She rushed out of the apartment just in time to hear something smash against the wall. She hurried outside and got into Sam's car, practically throwing herself into his arms, breathless.

She hadn't intended to stay out all night but now it looked like she probably should.

	She squeezed her eyes shut so she wouldn't cry. Crying would not help matters any. "It's all my fault! I tried to tell her how stupid it was to quit school and now they're fighting and they've started to throw things and he yelled at me and he's so angry." She bunched a hand into a fist. 	He stroked her back, hugging her close. "You are not to blame, Ganieda. You told her the truth. You are looking out for her, and that is more than he is." he stroked her hair, softly kissing her. Ganieda sighed shakily and let herself be comforted by him. Eventually, her shoulders unknotted and she relaxed a little, smiling slightly when he kissed her.

At the mention of her brother's help, she said, "I have been offered to be kept busy and out of the apartment by Belle. She also...suggested I spend as much time with you as possible. And just now, it's the thing I most want to do."

	"It has been much better. Especially since I can basically throw back the answers in religion class better than the others who have been trained for longer than I have." She grins at him. 	He nodded. "Good." At her question, he shrugged a little. "Slow, kind of boring right now. Start of the semester always is. But they are good classes." He grinned and hugged her. 	She beamed and blushed again. "That's sweet. I'm glad you think of me," she said. "I wonder if your professors noticed you looking all misty eyed during a discussion of ancient customs." She laughed a bit and kissed him back. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)
