Narrative
Darius was no stranger to medical labs. Aside from enjoying older Hank's company, he'd been the kind to push himself. Was still the kind to push himself, really. Which had yeilded a few trips to the medlab in his time. He was humming softly as he looked around, comparing the facilities here to the ones he was familiar with.
Part of him wished they'd allowed him to choose his own doctor, since there was a Henry here. But he had wanted to do something different and unexpected, and this was just part of that.
The doctor who came in looked familiar. Darius had seen him the previous day, during his physical. Dr. Norton was his name, as Darius recalled. He gave the man a weary smile, wishing he'd gotten to bed a little earlier the previous night, since he'd been told in advance they would be drawing blood today, so they would have a transfusion on hand if it was necessary.
"Good morning, Mr. Summers." The doctor was a pretty cheerful guy. It put Darius at ease.
"Morning, Dr. Norton." The doctor smiled at him, and carefully kept his telepathy under control. This boy wasn't a mutant, but he was the least guarded of the Summerses he had been able to find. He eventually intended to collect samples from the remaining members of that particular family, but he had to start with what he had. Havok was the next man on his list, though Essex was pondering the thought of simply waiting until nature took its course with him and Polaris. It would be so easy to get samples from them posing as a obstetrician. He might even be able to steal their child wholesale, if the urge took him.
Of course, for now, he had to focus on this rather poor example of the family he was obsessed with. The boy could have at least had the decency to be the son of an interesting mother. Ah well. It would help him untangle the DNA of the others, since he was completely without any of his old samples.
Darius stopped humming, and eyed the doctor as he prepared the equipment. The man seemed focused on his work, so Darius didn't feel like bothering him. He just relaxed as Dr. Norton wrapped the tourniquet around his arm and tried to raise a vein.
"I'm going to take some extra samples, so we can run tests for possible weaknesses or immunodeficiencies." His voice was smooth and professional, even as he congratulated himself on his cleverness. Darius just nodded wishing the doctor would just get it over with. He felt the cold iodine on his arm, and the barest prick of the needle under his skin. Somehow this was worse than getting the shit kicked out of him in the Danger Room. At least then he could fight back. Here he could only sit and wait for it to be over. The thought made him laugh a little. He was sure Hank the younger and Chris would tease him to death for that, but that was how he felt. For a moment, he missed his brothers terribly. He wondered what was going on back home, and if they missed him or not.
Essex took three vials of blood in addition to the bag for the transfusion. As long as he actually gave the corp what they required, nobody would ever be the wiser. Well, realistically, they would, knowing his luck, but not until he'd already disappeared again. Unless they questioned the real Dr. Norton. But the cover story he'd implanted in the man's mind was airtight. He chuckled a little as he removed the bloodbag and put it in the storage container, sliding the vials into their own little carriers, for later perusal. He removed the needle and put a bandage on the puncture, before removing the tourniquet.
Darius stood, giving the doctor a wan smile, and thanking him. "So, just the vaccines, and then we're done, right?"
"Yes. But it can wait until you've had a cookie and some juice." Essex was gleeful. He'd suceeded! Now all he had to do was administer a couple shots, and then he was gone.
Darius grabbed an orange juice and a cookie. All he needed was a couple more shots, and then he was gone. Thank goodness.
