Who: Toki and Soren
What: Uncle Advice
Where: Mordhaus
When: Tonight
Warnings: Swearing and booze. The Dethklok standard.

Toki had been watching from the sidelines for quite some time as his future kids, his future wife, his husband's future kids, and his husbands-from-the-future-and-past showed up. He'd been quiet about it. He didn't even mind having his grandson showing up. As usual, the Norwegian took everything in stride, albeit jaded. He'd already been used to meeting people from other worlds and other realities, even other times. His best friends were once a theoretical child of two superheroes, and a dead king from his own past. However, he saw how Teja and Soren reacted to each other, and then realized how his grandson and the same son of Skwisgaar were in a relationship, and he started fretting for the young blond. After all, he saw quite a lot of potential in the relationships between Soren and his lovers, and he feared his future son's retaliation-by-proxy. He didn't want things to carry on like they had between Skwisgaar and himself.

He'd already talked to his son about things, which is why Teja was down at the forge, and had been for a few hours. He was just happy to hear that Soren was coming over. He made plans to take the boy aside and talk to him. It was the least he could do, since Skwisgaar was away on his honeymoon.

Toki was in the main living room, on the computer, working on redesigning a layout on Myspace. Nathan wasn't satisfied with the sub-par brutality that his page invoked. And since Toki was the only one who knew anything about the internet at all, he was helping out.

Soren was going over to Mordhaus more lately, but every time it was like a covert ninja sneaking into the magistrate's fortress. He hated it, but he didn't want to run into Teja again.

With the intention of leaving his parents a note saying that he hoped they'd enjoyed their honeymoon, would they like to go to dinner with him and Sable once they'd returned, he walked into the main room.

Toki turned as he heard the footsteps and he smiled, looking over his shoulder. "Heyderes, Soren." He saved the changes he'd made thus far before turning around in his seat. "You gots a moment?" He was quick and to the point, because he knew if he wasn't, he'd chicken out.

Every time he saw Soren, he saw so much of Skwisgaar in him. The long, blond hair, the sharp blue eyes. Even the pouting lips. But they were so incredibly different in personality - Soren was much warmer, much more easy to talk to. He appreciated that.

'Hey, Toki." He grinned and had to bite back calling him Grandpa, even though they had no blood relation. It still kind of felt that way. He walked over to where Toki had been sitting at the computer and flopped down in a chair. "What's up?"

He dropped himself down onto the floor to rest against the front of another chair, pulling one leg up and wrapping his arms around it. He was still young, himself, and it showed. "Well," he started, looking a bit sheepish about bringing it up. It was personal stuff, "you knows how fast stuff gets pass arounds here. You's dating both Miniver's daughter and my grandsons, jo? Dat's coo'. I glads you is happy. Really."

He looked up at Soren, smiling fondly, "Is great to sees dat you an' Miniver's kid gets along, an' dats you ain'ts fightings with Cass or nothin'."

It was always weird to see Toki all bendy-like (even later on in his life). Then he brought up his relationships with both Sable and Cass. His pale cheeks lit up like a Christmas bulb and he nodded. "Yeah. I - " He was loathe to bring up anything about Toki's own relationships, so he tried to think of ways to describe his lovers that would make sense to Toki. "They're like - Cass is my soul and Sable's my heart." God, that was mushy, but it fit and it worked.

The analogy fit so well with how Toki felt about his own loves. "Ja, I gets dat. Dat's de sames with me an' Skwisgaar an' Stephanie. I miss Skwisgaar a whole lots. Mine ain't here but your dad ams way great, anyways." He ran a hand through his hair and sighed, "I can'ts tells you how great I feels when I thinks about how you guys gets along so well. It makes me feels really good. Deeps down. But den I sees dat you don't gets along with Teja so well, and dats is what bothers me. I already talkeds to him abouts dis, but you ams way more easy to talks to."

He pulled his other leg up to rest his chin between his knees, looking a bit worried. "Is like how Skwisgaar and me always fights. You never sees it, but we does a whole lots. We never gets along perfect. Actuallies, we's pretty mean to each others. Dids I tells you in your timesline abouts when I tells him I loves him?" He liked using that story to get his point across, because it was better than bringing up any of their petty fights.

Soren smiled, glad Toki got it. It wasn't weird hearing Toki talk about loving a Skwisgaar - he'd always known that - and in truth, it made him feel more justified in loving Cass. Made him feel less greedy and more simply blessed.

Moving onto the floor, Soren moved closer to Toki. "We - yeah. We don't get along." He twirled a few strands of blond hair around his fingers and looked at his knees. "You didn't, actually. What happened?"

Toki smiled when Soren came to sit by him on the floor. It was comfortable, despite the floor being made of stone. It was cool and familiar to him, and reminded him of home, even when the whole rest of the world didn't. He took a moment to think about how to word things. That moment spanned on for a few more before he started. He recounted the story, starting at the bar and working his way through the fight. It was the most painful fight in recent history that he'd had, actually. The heartbreak that he experienced in the dispute between whether or not he truly loved the Swede was immense, and his expression showed this as he told the story.

"De points is, dat we always fights, even abouts de most obvious things. Dat's fight I think hads been de fourth fights we hads dat week! And we gots along way so much more better den, den we gots along when we first mets. Is always beens a fights between us. You an' Teja ain'ts no different in dat respects. An' I sorry dats he picks fights with you. I guessing is because I tells him all abouts stuff way too soon. I admires him for a whole lots of reasons, but pickings a fights with you jus' cuz you's a Skwigelf ain't nothin' I would ever wants."

He curled his toes and then unflexed them, tapping them on the floor. "But I's glad dats you is takes de high roads on dat. I think despites all de excuses he gots to gives to me abouts you bein' no good at guitar and ain't livings like you should, I thinks he's wrong. You's gots de right idea, and you's living just like Skwisgaar would wants his son to lives. Withouts dat burdens. I asks him if I push him too hards, and he says he's de one pushings. So... dere's dat."

At some point during the story, he'd moved closer to Toki and wrapped an arm around him. He had a feeling he knew the point of the story, knew where it was heading, and he nodded a little when he finally got the message.

"It's - I don't hate him. I don't dislike him at all. I think the main reason we don't get along is that he knows one of my biggest sore points, and he just... drills it home, you know? Dad always told me to do what I wanted, to play when I wanted to. And I love making music. I love it. Just... in different ways. And I do like guitar, and I'd play it more, but I freeze. And he - he thinks so much less of me, and it just makes me want to beat his head in because I'm happy, and it's almost like he's saying that my happiness is trivial."

Toki chewed on his thumbnail as he listened to Soren, and he shook his head. "Sometimes I gots to wonder if you don't hangs out with me too much when you's a kid." He patted Soren on the shoulder and then shook his head. "I don't thinks is a personal thing, though. He probably thinks dats all happiness is trivial. I thinks dat too sometimes. Is like... Teja is me, when I gets really piss off about something. I sees in red, and gets so fucking upsets dat I just wants to rips everyone's face off and stomps dem until dey don't breathes no more. Seeings him is like seeings myselfs in a mirror when I is likes dat."

His brow knit. "Honestly? Is pretty scary."

Soren looked over at Toki. "How do you think?" He chuckled and nudged the Norwegian in the arm with a gentle fist. "Everyone gets angry. He and I got into it the other day. I hit him first. I - "

He swallowed and shrugged. "I've always felt really... not good enough. For anyone. And I finally do now, and I just - all he can tell me is that I should play guitar." He sneered looking a lot like his father.

He squeezed Soren around the shoulders. "You hasn't seens me angry, has you." That was a no-contest statement. Soren wouldn't say that if he had seen Toki angry even once.

"Honestly? You's a better guy den your dad. And I really thinks dat. And you ain't evers gunna be like him. Teja wants you to be like him so he can has dat sorts of rivalries dat me an' your dad gots." His eyes widened as he came to a conclusion, "Maybe so dats he could has dat sorts of loves! I don't knows dat, but is pretty straightforwards." He shrugged.

"As for you not beings good enough? I knows dat feelings. Never feels dat way. Ever. I thinks you just fine, Soren."

"No," Soren murmured. He let his head rest on Toki's shoulders, sighing. He was idly chewing on the ends of his hair, sighing.

He didn't think there were any men better than his father, and he looked at Toki in wide-eyed disbelief when he heard his words. "I - yeah, he - " He stuttered and pressed his palms to his cheeks, sighing. "I can't. We can't. It's - no." He bit his lower lip and was feeling fairly guilty about things when Toki said his kind words. "Thanks, Gr - Toki. It means a lot coming from you."

He hugged Soren tight and smiled wide, "Don't worries about it, I gunna keep talkings to him. I won't lets him gets into shit with you no more. It's totally brutal to be mean to someone for no reason. Nathan might thinks is funny and Metal, but it ain't. It hurts."

He squeezed a little tighter before letting go and jumping to his feet. "Wanna go gets some chocolate icecreams cake? Dey gots some downstairs ats de kitchen! I knows where, too. Dey is tryings to hides it, but I knows exactlies where dey has it."

Soren wondered sometimes how he'd gotten so lucky. There were a lot of people around with deadbeat, terrible families that didn't care about them at all, and there was Soren with a family so big, so deep, that it transcended blood and time. "We could be friends. I think that's what hurts the most."

He was almost startled when Toki jumped up. Then he was offered cake, and cake made every situation wonderful. "Yes. Yes, I do."

Honestly, there was no situation that couldn't be brightened with cake. Toki practically dragged Soren down to the kitchen. He did make a detour, however, to grab a pair of bolt cutters. Once in the kitchen, he smiled sneakily at Soren. He opened up the giant walk-in freezer, keeping the door open. Walking through it, there were the usual frozen goods - large meathooks holding at least half a cow, frozen fish by the heaps, dead roadie in the corner, gallons and gallons of ice cream, and finally, in the back, there was a large wooden box, chained and locked up with a giant sign in big red letters saying "NO TOUCHING TOKI".

He wielded the bolt cutters, breaking the lock, before tugging the chains off, and opening the box. Inside, not only was there the aforementioned cake, there were also other goodies that Toki wasn't allowed to eat to excess - gummy worms, chocolate bars, gumballs, gumdrops, and other candies, fudge, frozen pies and cheesecakes - all too sugary for a man known for his ability to mystically get and un-get diabetes. He pulled out the cake and left the rest alone, wandering back out, looking rather smug for all his work, leaving the bolt cutters on top of the crate.

Here was Soren being a huge Swedish ninja again. It was more fun with someone else, though, and he tried not to look too curious at the bolt cutters.

The walk-in freezer was nice, actually; as much as he loved living on Tortuga, there were days he longed for snowball fights and huge cups of hot chocolate. He looked around with curiosity at the things inside the freezer, having never gone in before. There wasn't a need. Then he saw the sign and facepalmed. Whoever had put that there clearly wanted a sugarhigh Toki Wartooth.

He eyed the treasure trove of candy and pies and sweets, but agreed with Toki. The cake was surely the crown jewel of the loot, and he could already hear his stomach rumbling as he followed him out. "Want me to grab some plates?"

Toki shook his head, "You can cuts it. I gets de plates." Whether he did that because he didn't like knives or whether his mun didn't trust him with one was debatable.

He reached up into the cupboard that held the plates and pulled two out, as well as getting out two forks. He walked to the condiments refrigerator and pulled out chocolate syrup, whipped cream and maraschino cherries before sitting down next to Soren at the brushed metal counter in the kitchen. "Gots to bes prepared for dis."

Soren was very good at cutting cake as his hands were quite steady. He cut them two generous pieces while Toki got out everything else, setting one on each plate. Once Toki was settled next to him, he reached over for the whipped cream, running a little over the cake. "This is good. Thanks for sharing your stash." He hadn't even taken a bite yet; the good thing obviously wasn't just the cake.

Toki shrugged, "Isn't mine. Is Pickle and Skwisgaar's." He drizzled the chocolate syrup across the top of his slice, before putting a large portion of whipped cream atop that. More syrup went over the cream, and at the very top, he set a cherry.

He took a bite. "But dey don't needs to knows."

Toki was glad he had someone who had a sweet tooth just like he did, and that was most of the reason he had such a big smile on his face as he ate his slice of cake, delighting in the texture of the ice cream squished in between two very moist cake layers. It was really almost too rich, but he didn't mind. "Gots to admits, though, is pretty weird knowings you's what happens when you mix Skwisgaar with a magical lady. Dey's both so serious alla de times, and you ain't too serious at all! I likes it."

[info]twiceloved
2008-09-17 03:13 am UTC (link)
The whipped cream somehow helped to mitigate the richness, but not too much. Soren hopped up and went to get them both glasses of milk. "Well, I have a big family, you know? All of Dethklok, all of your family, all of Miniver's family. So I learned how to be passionate from Dad, magic and how to see the world from Mom. How to cry from Uncle Miniver. And on and on and on."

He handed over Toki's glass of milk before taking a swig from his own. "I'm lucky."

It was hard to think of a way to say what he wanted to without sounding like a demeaning asshole, but Soren was genuine. "You're really open to new experiences, new adventures. You're really loving. Oh, and you taught me all about video games and what kinds of candy are best, and that hugs pretty much are the most awesome of things."

Toki wouldn't have found anything Soren said as demeaning. He genuinely found that Skwisgaar's son was one of the most well-rounded kids any of their kids could possibly be. He was actually jealous of Skwisgaar for that, too. Even his kid was better than any of his own. Jerk.

He smiled though, at what Soren said, hiding behind a curtain of hair, bashful. "Glads I could teach you dems things." He looked a bit puzzled. "Wonders how I can helps Teja." He had his concerns about the young man. It was as if he'd never been there for him. He wouldn't have let Teja get so out of control with his anger and jaded perceptions.

"You's knows Teja pretty well, right?"

Soren was glad he could make Toki smile and swung back into his seat. He chewed quietly and thoughtfully, letting Toki muse to himself. That is, until he was directly addressed.

"Um. Not super well, but I don't know anyone who does."

Either by coincidence, or by thinking really hard for a while, Toki had figured out why the elder Skwisgaar wasn't his. Why the last fight between Miniver and Skwisgaar occurred, or more importantly, why it had ended. He'd heard Skwisgaar yelling, and remembered those words well enough and it struck him. He'd never really considered his own death.

He finished his cake before he asked, "Was I deres for him?"

Toki nodded and sighed, "I dies. I knows." He took a sip of the milk, and shook his head. "I guess dat's why de guys takes care of him so much, huh? Dat's why he looks up to Nathans. Well, I gunna be here now for hims, I ain't gunna lets him get fuckeds up no more. I knows exactly whats dat is like."

He chewed his thumbnail as he thought. He was glad Teja wasn't like himself at seventeen, he was driven to succeed not out of spite, but out of tribute. He wasn't setting anything on fire, and he certainly wasn't killing anyone. But he saw that anger and sadness in his future son's eyes that made him wish that he'd had more time to tell the boy that he was to be modest about his talents, and be kind to his family, be they an extension of his own blood, or the cousins he'd have when the other guys had kids.

Brendaannn an' Torii needs me, too. But especially Teja needs me, because he never gots to has me around befores now." He squeezed Soren's hand, and nodded. "I wonders if Nathans gets any kids." He mused then, laughing softly to himself at the thought of Nathan with any kid under the age of 16. Honestly, he couldn't imagine any of them having kids until he got here, but Brenda was a delight, Glyndaa was strong, Torii was a little like a sour-coated gummy bear with the mind of a library, and Teja was a fighter. Soren, though... he was a miracle. As serious as his parents were, and considering where and with whom he was brought up, he could have been loads and loads worse.

That mental image was even better, and Soren had to fight off laughing milk right out of his mouth. "Okay, so if Nathan has a kid, we get other people to hold it for him." He was still chuckling when Toki looked at him, all serious, and Soren nodded. "I can do that."

"Okay, I trusts you." Toki said with a smile. "An' I trusts you with Cassidy. An' I think Miniver can trusts you with Sable, too." He knew that if anything, Skwigelfs were incredibly loyal, even when they weren't trying to be, or had numerous lovers. He was proud of Cass for holding on to Soren, because having that kind of friendship wasn't just rare, it was unique. He stood and finished his glass of milk, leaving his mess behind as he looked at Soren. "Your hair is de same exacts color as your dads was when he was 20. Just gets darker an' darker." There was a fond, faraway tone to that, before he led the way out of the kitchen. "I gots to sleeps now. I hopes Nathans won't kills me 'cuz I stops workings on his Myspace."

"I'll take good care of Cass, promise. I've been doing it for a long time, no point in stopping now. And Sable - yeah." He chuckled and blushed, folding some stray hair behind his ears. He blinked as Toki told him about his hair, biting his lower lip. Sometimes he wondered if it ever hurt Toki, him looking so much like his father.

"Nah, and if he does, I'll smack him." Soren grinned and walked behind Toki. "Let me know how things go, yeah?"

It didn't hurt him nearly as much as it made him miss his Skwisgaar all the more. The little one was easier to relate to in the way he related to his own, but the older one cared more, and actually showed it. Soren looked enough like Lulu, too, that he didn't mind so much.

He walked back towards the main room, which led into the hallway that had all the bedrooms. "I wills. Thanks for talking. Goodnights, Soren." With a cheerful wave, he wandered off to bed.
