Who: Sonya and Ganieda
What: A Conversation
Where: A London Tea Shop
Warnings: None at the moment.

Ganieda is quite grateful that the meeting place is in a tea shop. She needs a moment for her head to stop spinning and for her body to readjust after the strange trip with the Portkey. It was a most unusual way to travel and not as pleasant as she'd hoped it would be.

She sweeps her skirts under her as she sits and waits to order until Sonya gets there. Ganieda feels rather excited to see the woman she considers as a friend again.

Sonya gave a faint smile.

"Army identification tags, thought before I came here, they were called dog tags. Every military officer that goes through the training and becomes enlisted earns them. It's both an honor and a reminder that there's a chance you'll be killed in action-KIA we call it."

She pulled the chain from her neck and hand them carefully to Ganieda. On the chain were two silver, metal ID tags, one was attached to a smaller chain on the necklace. On both tags was the following information:

Blade
Sonya E.
192-865-0074
A POS
Catholic

"What would happen is that if a soldier's killed in battle, the tag on the shorter chain is mailed to the soldier's family while the other is either buried with the body."

She pointed to the tags. "My army serial number and under that is my blood type, if I or any of my men need a blood transfusion, the medics will know if my blood's a match or not."

Ganieda studied the tags as she listened to Sonya.

"Memento mori. A reminder of mortality," she said softly. She handed them back. "Thank you."

She said, "Our soldiers did not have such things...but then, the battles were not far from home. Their families would have come to find the fallen and injured." She smiles slightly. "It was only a little different."

War had the same results all around. Men and women died. Families grieved. And later, treaties that did not mean much were penned.

She took the chain and placed it over her neck.

"They won't allow families to search for the bodies. For one, a soldier will try to retrieve the body before they return home, there's also the chance that an enemy might still be in the area or the place booby trapped. And soldiers fight in any country they're needed. When you get the chance, look up information on the First and Second World Wars, that should give you a general idea."

"I imagine it's still the same in your time: the men in power declare war but it's the poor men that fight it?"

She nodded. "Aye. Most of them are farmers defending their land." She shakes her head.

"That was always the part that I did not like about becoming a queen. The tacit approval of sending poor men to their deaths while the rulers sat around."

Sonya's eyebrows lowered. "That would suck. Thankfully, when I became queen, Tsung let me be in charge of his armies. It was much easier keeping track of his armies that way, instead of having to put his trust-or what he means as 'trust-in some other General. Atleast that way, I would be with my men when they needed me." The army was her family-even in a dysfunctional sense. There was nothing she wouldn't do for her men.

Ganieda nodded. "You are a good ruler and leader, then. Do you ever foresee a time when you will no longer be a soldier, Sonya?"

It was clear that she was born to be a soldier, a leader of men, and a good one.

Sonya had to laugh. "I have to be, or Tsung might've taken over only to let my realm fall into chaos-he really just doesn't care about ruling, it's just the power image he cares for."

"As for your last question, I'll stop being a soldier when my bones suddenly decide to go creaky-or when someone kills me and I pass on, whichever comes first."

She smiles warmly at Sonya. She greatly respected the older woman's skill and determination.

"I thought as such," she said. "Let us hope then, that the bullets miss you for a very, very long time." Ganieda raises her cup to her.

Sonya's cup was empty, but she did give the young woman a small salute.

"Here's hoping."
