Who: Calliope Sedant and Johanna Barker.
What: Life changing moments.
When: This evening.
Where: Calliope's apartment.
Warnings: Vampire/human relations. No permanent death.

Calliope went up the stairs, sighing. Sweeney Todd was clearly out of his mind - either of them, in her opinion. Obviously, what was left of Barker was influencing him a bit, but she wondered if even he knew how much.

She was ready for what he wanted her to do. Had been ready; ever since she'd started to fall asleep before meals, she'd taken to paying off blood clinics for large donations. Being rich made things a lot easier. She had a few of them with her as she made her way up the stairs, setting them on a dresser as she entered Johanna's room.

"Hello, dear. What are you working on?"

She smiled, there were still fingerspots on the keyboard where she'd replied, but she was back at the painted-over window at that point, using two desk lamps to act as spotlights for the mural while she worked, "Autumn." And so she was, a swirl of orange and burgundy leaves dancing across one pane, she was currently using a hair-thin brush to line and speckle them with gold.

She'd already finished Spring and Summer on two of the other panes, and had one left for Winter.

Calliope blinked and smiled. "That's beautiful. You should look to doing this as a profession. You could make a living this way." She chuckled at her phrasing and sat down on a chair near to Johanna, but without touching her.

"Dear, you know what I am. Are you... still comfortable with me?"

She blinked at the statement, head tilting a moment later as she rinsed the brush, "You really think I could? Is that a proper sort of profession for a young lady?" It was the kind of question she asked about everything, really.

At the question however she looked puzzled, "Of course I am. I don't suppose I'd still be living here if I weren't." Despite the fact that she really didn't have anywhere else to go.

"A young lady may do anything she chooses, nowadays." Calliope smiled and smoothed out her own skirt. "But I think it was always all right for a lady to do. I honestly don't recall. There's... a lot I was doing then."

She let her hair down out of the bun she'd pinned it into before work, and sighed. "That's true. I... would you ever think about joining me?" Because that didn't sound awkward.

She nodded, doing a few more little touch-ups before setting the paint aside, "I may have to look into it."

And then, rather puzzled, "But I'm already..." The light went on, "Oh!" Her brow furrowed, looking utterly and completely puzzled, "Is that possible?"

"I can look into it for you. I'm wealthy here, so I have a number of connections in regard to buyers. I'll buy you some canvas, or perhaps something else if that's not your preferred medium." She finger-combed her hair, sighing contentedly.

Then she laughed. "Yes, darling. It's very simple, actually."

"Well if it's that simple why isn't everyone doing it?" This made perfect sense to her, really, it did.

"Not everyone thinks vampires exist. Perhaps they don't in all worlds. Besides, too many predators grazing a small herd makes no sense. We're like wolves. Small packs, and rarely seen."

She squeezed Johanna's hand, wishing that she could just snap her neck instead of grant her the life she'd had herself.

She nodded at that, "I suppose that makes sense." And it did, really, animal similes were the best way to go.

She shook her head then, "I hadn't thought about it before, actually. Though I suppose it could be interesting."

"It'd give you time. Time not everyone has. I've been alive for... two hundred years, give or take. I know you didn't always have freedom, and this would give you as much as you wanted." She felt a twinge of almost-guilt, conning the girl with what she knew was her weak point.

She nodded slowly at that, brow creasing just slightly, thinking it over, "That would be a boon." Not only would it give her time to get used to the way things were now, but it would give her time to figure out just who she really was.

She'd been learning that in bits and pieces since coming here, and so far she liked what she saw. Of course, there was still one important question: "Does it hurt?"

"No more than my feeding off of you did. You'll get woozy at the end. Then you'll feed from me. At that point, yes, it might hurt a bit. Your human body will die. That lasts for a few minutes. Then - you'll likely never feel pain again. No sickness will touch you."

She spoke only of physical pain. The mental trauma that went with being a vampire tended to bemore than most people could imagine.

She nodded slowly, "And after that I'll keep the same hours as you do? Go out only after dark?" She didn't sound concerned about it, really, just curious, almost as if she were making a list of pros and a list of cons in her head.

Probably she was.

"Yes. The sun would hurt you. A little is all right, but more than a minute or two and it would be fatal. You'd eat what I eat. You'd get cold, and stop breathing, but the world would be yours for as long as you wished it."

There was a slow, easy smile at that, deciding that she quite liked the sound of that phrase, "And I'd have all the time in the world to make it my own."

The smile went very nearly brilliant at that, "I accept."

Calliope disguised her inner wince with a sigh, and moved so that she was sitting on Johanna's bed.

"Come sit by me. It won't take long."

She settled lightly beside the other woman, looking almost eager, only just starting to see the myriad of possibilities opening up in front of her.

Being nocturnal wouldn't be so bad, she was fairly used to keeping Calliope's hours anyway, this wasn't much more of a step, "What should I do?"

"Just... close your eyes, dear." Calliope moved Johanna's hair to the side, leaning forward to press her lips to her neck. She didn't put her fangs in right away. She ran her hands up and down Johanna's arm, wanting to relish the girl as a human for just a moment more.

She was startled, just for a moment, rather like a deer in the headlights, as she was quite often, though less so now than she had been the first few days.

She relaxed in stages, sighing softly as her head tilted forward, resting against Calliope's shoulder, hands loose in her lap where they had been an almost-nervous tangle before, while she was thinking.

"Shh," Caliope smiled. "Still. Think of something you like, and focus on that." She kissed Johanna's neck once more before letting her fangs prick through Johanna's skin. Within seconds they'd hit home, and she tried her best to be dainty as she sucked hard.

There was the slightest nod at the statement, letting her eyes close completely, it wasn't difficult for her to bring something to mind, because, really, she liked everything and it was easy to focus on the whole wide world, even with the almost startle from the initial sting, in fact it was easier to focus on everything the longer Calliope fed, apparently the wooziness of blood loss set Johanna's imagination into overdrive.

Once she'd drained enough blood to put Johanna into mortal peril, Calliope pulled away, letting the girl's limp form rest on her chest. Nipping hard at her own wrist, she let blood flow there before pressing her wrist to Johanna's mouth. She knew instinct would take over.

Instincts were marvelous things, really, and it was only a moment or two, the span of a wildly-fluttering heartbeat, before Johanna swallowed, the first time was complete and utter reflex, the second was on purpose, preceded by a quick, kitten-like swipe of her tongue, it was only a few moments before she was actively drawing at Calliope's wrist, eyes closed, breath high and fluttering just at present.

She let her feed long enough to start the turning process, then had to forcibly remove her wrist. "There, dear. Lay down. It'll hurt for a few moments, but then you'll feel much better. I promise. I've your first meal here as well, so don't worry about that."

It didn't take very long, fifteen minutes, maybe twenty all said, of course, even that short time was still unpleasant, Johanna didn't thrash like some were known to do, instead she looked perplexed, as if she had the solution to a puzzle but didn't know what the puzzle itself was.

Her breathing and her heartbeat spread out, slowing like a clock winding down, stretching to the point of distortion before stopping completely.
