When Carrie spoke again, Dick kissed her cheek. "You're welcome. You never need to say thanks for that." In truth though, he was glad she hadn't minded that he went to her. There were times when Carrie said she wanted to be alone when she really did want to be alone, and there were times when she thought she wanted to be alone, and sometimes it was hard to tell which was which. Dick was glad to get it right.
