Who: Emily, Buffy and Faith
What: Officer Summers to the rescue
Where: The alley near Faith's house
When: nighttime
Warnings: violence, Emily shows off her crazy, bad baddy badness
Emily was drifting off into space, somewhere with her head in the clouds as she walked away from Bruce's car and towards the house she shared with Faith. She'd contemplated inviting him in with her but she wasn't exactly sure how to explain to someone that she lived in a brothel. It wasn't something that she could exactly keep a secret with all of the girls in and out of the house all of the time. She decided that it was too soon to be telling him about that and decided that for now, it was best to leave things as they were.
She was humming a song underneath her breath and pulling the keys out of her purse when suddenly there was a man she didn't recognize standing right in front of her. She paused and just looked at him for a minute.
"Can I help you?" She asked him.
"Yeah. Gimme your purse." He told her plainly.
She couldn't help it, the corner of her mouth came up in a smirk. Was she being mugged? She really was a New Yorker now. Pulling the gun out of her purse she leveled it on his head and gave him a look. "I really like this purse. It's Prada." She shrugged, turning the safety off, amused at this stranger who thought he'd found an easy target for the night.
She had thought he would just go running off into the night, looking for some other girl's purse to steal but instead, a hand from behind her caught her by surprise. She tried to fight him off but his hand clamped down around her mouth as the other one fought for control of the gun. Just as she lost her grip on it, it discharged, sending a bullet piercing through the first guy's shoulder.
He screamed and cursed, putting his hand to his bloodied shoulder before looking at his red palm in dismay. "Bitch!"
Emily was busy trying to claw the hand off of her mouth so that she could tell these two guys to shoot eachother when the first guy's bloodied fist collided so hard into her jaw she was sure that she would have cartoon birdies swirling around her head for days. She struggled, kicked as hard as she could, screaming around the hand muffling her cries. Faith was right there.... only a few feet away, probably fast asleep in the house they shared. Emily would have given anything in that minute to have her friend look out the window right now.
"I want you to tell your lady friend upstairs something for me. Tell her that Mr. Azizian doesn't take too kindly to bad business. He paid for the night, and your friend better be prepared to pay him for his medical expenses the next time she sends him to the hospital."
Emily frowned, stilling for a moment as she stared at him. Suddenly she knew exactly who these guys were, they were just thugs of that guy who'd beaten up one of the girls while Faith was on sabbatical. Emily wasn't sure what to do about it at the time but luckily Faith had stepped out of the shadows long enough to take care of the problem. She wanted to tell him that was Faith's idea, Faith was the one who owned and ran the business, Emily was just being a good friend and helping her out. "I'm not a hooke-!" She tried to yell through his hand but was cut off when she felt her wrist snap backwards. She literally could hear the bones crunching and breaking. Her eyes filled with tears and she wailed in pain as the unforgiving grip that had been crushing her ribs finally released.
She fell to the ground in a heap as one of them grabbed up her purse and looked inside of it. "This is a good start. Medical bills are expensive." He said to her, leaning down close and grabbing her by her neck as he pulled her back up to her feet. She was still moaning at the pain in her wrist as he leaned in so close she thought he was going to kiss her for a moment. "You're gonna find out." He promised her tightening his grip so she had trouble breathing as she tried to cradle her broken wrist in her hand.
Tears were streaming down her face as she looked back up hopefully at the house again, willing Faith to appear. Or Solvei. Or Dean. Or Sam. She would take whatever she could get right at the moment. It wasn't as if this was the first time her life had been in immediate danger but before, someone else had always been with her. One of them had been with her and now she felt completely alone, in the dark with the two of them.
They seemed familiar to her somehow.
Suddenly there was the sharp glint of metal in her face and Emily's eyes danced in the light of the blade as it came so close to her eye she was afraid to even breathe. The crushing hand around her throat was mercifully lifted and now she had the power. They were only human and Emily? Emily was special.
But she couldn't stop staring at the knife, only an inch away from her retina. One wrong move, one word, one flinch and it was going to drive itself straight into her eye. She was frozen.
"Man, we gotta go!" The other guy shouted. "Someone's coming!"
Emily breathed in a sigh of relief when the knife moved and she heard a car driving up the street. "We'll finish this later." The knife wielding maniac promised her before he shoved her to the ground and took off running after his friend.
Emily sat on the pavement for a long moment, breathing hard. That was until she heard footsteps approaching. She wasn't sure who was coming but she felt danger. Something was wrong. You couldn't trust anyone because everyone wanted to hurt you. It was the laws of nature, both demon and human.
She quickly scurried backwards, finding a large cardboard box next to a trash dumpster. Hiding inside of it she practically held her breath as she hugged the wall of the box waiting for the footsteps to fade away.
