Who: Faith and Angel
What: Faith is making sure Angel doesn't light himself on fire
Where: Angel's crib
When: last night
Warnings: Angel brings out the decent human being in Faith

Faith didn't know what to really think about Angel being back. After all, he wasn't her Angel and wasn't it just a few days ago that she was refusing to talk to anyone because she thought they were all alternate dimension dopplegangers? At least, that was the excuse she was using for ignoring everyone. Then again, things were looking up these days. The business was doing well and Faith had more money than she even knew what to do with. Between her making appointments and running security and Emily doing the paperwork and dealing with the girls on a more personal level, things were running smoothly.

Emily wasn't exactly thrilled that Faith was running off again but she promised that she understood. Faith didn't know if she was relieved at actually being told where she was going this time or if it was because Faith was leaving to help a friend.

There was a little weirdness in there. Faith wasn't sure where things stood with her and Buffy. They'd spent the night together but Faith had backed off right after. She didn't know what it meant and frankly, now that Angel and Spike were back around, she just assumed she was about to be dumped for one of them.

Secretly she was pulling for Angel. Spike didn't do much for her personally. Then again, if Buffy chose Angel, Faith knew that in some ways she would resent him for it. She wondered if he would resent her for her relationship with Buffy.

"Fucking portkey." She found herself muttering as she made her way up to Angel's condo. The place was pretty impressive but would could you expect from the guy who replaced Sean Connery? She didn't bother knocking and instead just let herself in. Unsurprisingly, Angel was sitting near the bar with a book in his hand. The only guy Faith knew who liked to mix his scotch with literature.

"Knock, knock." She said dryly as she took a look around the place and whistled low under her breath. "Look who's a high roller now." She teased him slightly. "You're still way more badass than James Bond."

"Faith." He was surprised she'd gotten here so fast. Actually he had no idea how she'd gotten here. Wasn't she in New York when he talked to her? Maybe one of those portkeys they talked about it on that sparkly webpage.

Looking up from the book he'd been flipping through he closed it, tossing it on a nearby side table. "Connery had a decent library. I'm sure Wes would die for a chance to..." He stopped his sentence cold. "Don't get me started on James Bond. What a load of crap those movies were. A bunch of gadgets that could never work. Give me a Schwarzenegger movie any day of the week, that guy can kick some ass."

Uncomfortable sitting, he got up, putting the book back on a shelf. "So you've got a sister in this world. Thats different." He didn't know what this Faith had been through. They were friendly enough, but who knew what might be different.

"Yep." She answered with a casual shrug when he brought up Grace. Faith hadn't exactly given her sister the warmest of welcomes but by now, Grace should be used to Faith letting her down. Faith wasn't exactly in a big hurry to make it up to her. She had Kennedy now.... whatever the hell that was. She had already decided she'd rather not know.

Faith poked around in his bar for a few minutes, smelling a few bottles before putting the cap back on. "Jesus, Soul Boy. You got enough liquor here to drop an elephant." Hmmm. She thought about that for a minute. Getting an elephant drunk could be fun. Different at least.

"You know you can do anything you want here. You're not just stuck being an actor." She wrinkled her nose a little bit, hopping up to sit on the counter as she looked at him. "I really can't see you as an actor. Plus those pesky daylight scenes? Gonna get in the way." Although he was just meticulous enough about his appearance to be an actor, at least in Faith's opinion.

She bit down on her bottom lip giving him the once over. He looked like Angel, talked like Angel. Hell, he even drank like Angel. But she knew he was different.

Looked like Grace wasn't what she was in the mood to talk about. Which, knowing her meant she needed to talk about it. Yeah, he really did know her that closely.

"Booze and kicking the English's asses is what the Scots and Irish have in common. Even when I was alive they were traditions." There might even be enough booze here to get him wasted, and that was easier said then done when your a vampire.

Truthfully, he wouldn't mind life as an actor. Having the hair and makeup people in charge of his appearance would be a relief. It took a long time to do your hair when mirrors were useless. "The daylight scenes might not be a problem. Besides, you wouldn't believe what they can do with special effects these days."

The easy banter between them was great and she'd keep it up all day if he let her. But he couldn't do that. "So did I die too?"

"What? No." She told him quickly, caught a little off-guard when he asked her if he had died too. Faith wasn't sure what she would do if anything ever happened to Angel but she knew it would probably be something really dramatic. It was in keeping with her. Luckily, even though she wasn't exactly happy that Cor and Wes had kicked the bucket, Angel didn't die along with them.

"You didn't die." She promised him. "Well, more." You know what I mean." She said quickly. She wasn't great at all of this share and care stuff but she wanted to be there for him while he was sad or upset about his friends. The thing was, in his world, his friends were fine. Faith wished he would remember that.

But Angel was the King of Pain. So most likely? He wouldn't remember that at all.

"Oh." Somehow that seemed even worse to him. The worst thing about being immortal was watching your friends get old and die, or more commonly, just die. Which was probably why he didn't make very many friends. Doyle had been the worst. Maybe it was better he hadn't been there when Wes and Cordy moved on. It didn't sound like he'd done much good when he had been there anyway.

"Thanks for telling me. Guess I owe you again." To him it had just been a few weeks ago that she'd locked Angelus back up and taken the head trip through his life with him. "So since you and Buffy are alive I guess Spike really did save the world huh." Angel couldn't just come out and ask how she had been.

He didn't know what else to do so he walked over to the bar and opened a bottle of whiskey. Poured himself a glass and handed her the bottle.

"Forget it." Faith shrugged. She hated keeping score and at this point between her and Soul Boy it was impossible to tell who owed who what exactly. They just saved each other's asses, it's what they did. Faith could be ten points ahead of him and she wouldn't care. Something about just having him here in the universe was bringing her back to her normal self rapidly. She was sure her friends back in New York would at least be happy to see that.

"And Spike..." Faith rolled her eyes just thinking about him being back in New York, staying with Buffy. It pissed her off if she let herself think about it for too long, but she tried hard to write the other night off as just another one night stand with Buffy. She pushed it out of her mind, she was here to hang with Angel and her drama with Buffy would just have to be put on hold. "Whatever. I guess he did. It's only such a big deal cause you he can't do it again without screwin' something up."

She frowned at that, wondering if maybe she should be nicer to Spike. Even though Faith thought that Angel was the one who really got her there was something to be said for being the number twos. Faith and Spike were second best when it came to Buffy and Angel.

Faith thought about ditching the sauce cause lately she'd just been anti-drinking when she realized she was just as pathetic as Dean and Solvei with the whining and the drinking and the skulking off to feel sorry for herself. But she figured, one drink with Angel couldn't really hurt anything.

"Knew you'd say that." He hated owing people, she did too. But her, he could handle owing her. She wouldn't be the type to hold it over his head, at least not anymore. Not after all they'd gone through. "Didn't think I'd be seeing you so soon, sort of missed you when I was in Sunnydale...yesterday."

Yeah this was weird, even for him. Taking a drink from the square glass he'd filled up he tried to feel something, a nice burn from the alcohol doing the job. "Spike, yeah. I really don't care what he does anymore. He went and got a soul, let's see what he does with it."

What had Angel managed to do with his soul? There was breaking Buffy's heart. Getting his friends killed. And Connor, yeah, enough said. He noticed Faith hesitate, looking at the bottle he slid toward her. Faith? Think twice about drinking? He inhaled slightly, smelling something underneath her usual scent. Buffy.

"Sun'll be up in a little bit." He knew right here, right now at this moment he'd never get a happy ending. He'd never be human again, never get a shot at happiness with Buffy or anyone else. He couldn't help his friends. He could help strangers, but only for a while. Eventually they all ended up dead. "How's New York treating you? Seems like your sister really looks up to you."

She shrugged. "It's fine. It's a place to be." She frowned a little bit at that. "Actually I'm only there cause Sol's there. I fucking hate New York." It just wasn't in her to have any love for New York after living in Boston for so long. Somehow though, all of her friends had ended up there and so that's where she stayed. But not all of her friends. Now Angel was in LA.

"She doesn't really. Grace, I mean." Faith told him seriously, taking a sip of the whiskey he'd poured her. It wasn't Jack, her usual flavor but something different. Probably expensive if she were to take a guess. "I don't do anything but let her down."

She hopped down on the counter and shrugged like she didn't really care as she took another sip.

"So we got the whole day to kill. Think you got a Playstation or something in this joint?" She asked him idly as she opened up the entertainment center in the living room. Dawson's Creek on DVD. Yes! Now she would have something to do when Angel inevitably took his afternoon nap.

Who was Sol? He tried to picture Faith living in New York and was having a hard time of it. She just didn't fit there in his mind. "Knew there was some Boston left in you." Truthfully, Boston was more of his type of town. If he had a type of town anyway.

"Don't be too sure about that." It wasn't his place to say anything. The last sister he'd had...it didn't matter. She was already onto the next thing, rummaging around the cabinets next to the big screen tv. "You think Connery was a big Mario Kart fan?"

The sun broke the horizon outside and he could sense it, the shift in light coming through the window, a smell in the air, birds chirping far away. She was busy looking at boxes of movies and he stepped back, reaching for the door. "Think I'd rather go out. Sort of feeling cooped up." He waited for her to turn and see what he was doing as he pulled the door open, the sunlight hitting him like a blowtorch as he squinted.

Nothing happened. No smoke, no fire, just him in the sun. "Gotta love alternate dimensions. You coming or what?"

She turned around and was about to yell at him and tackle him to the floor to douse the flames when... nothing happened. Faith blinked and just stood there for a minute. "What the....?" Hell are you doing? She wanted to know how he'd known that he wouldn't burst into flames but she was afraid that might have been his true intention.

Following him out through the door, she closed it gingerly behind him and then... she couldn't help herself. She smiled up at him. "It's a trip to see you in the sun, dude." She admitted.

"Kinda weird though." She squinted and finally lowered her eyes as they walked towards the front of the building. "So what do you wanna do?"

He really wished he had a camera. Seeing the look on her face was something he'd never forget. "Right back at you. I know why I'm pale, but what's your excuse?"

Reaching a hand for the front pocket of his shirt he flipped on a pair of Connery's sunglasses. He'd never had sunglasses before, they were cool. And he stopped squinting, which was a plus. "Sort of want to see if my hotel is here. You mind?"

He didn't know how else to say goodbye to the gang. Everything important for them had gone down at the hotel, it was worth a shot, to try at least for them. "So Pylea, demon dimension where people were slaves. Lorne, that was his home. Anyway, they made Cordy their Queen, if you can believe that. So..us guys think we're going to rescue her and..." Fishing a set of car keys out of a pocket he presses the alarm button to figure out which car is Connery's.

Stopping dead in his tracks Angel stares. This is such crap. Connery drives a damn VW Bug? This is not cool. Very not cool. "I'd rather be on fire." Thanks for nothing PTBs.

Faith had to snort back a laugh when the VW Bug lit up. Not only was it pretty much the gayest make and model of car ever, but it was also a hideous shade of bright green. "Man, just think of it? You're driving like every sixteen year old girl's wet dream." She couldn't help but tease him but tried hard to reign it back in when Angel turned a glare to her.

"Look, at least you've got an assload of cash. Buy yourself a new car. Donate this one to the WB or something." She suggested playfully, now ignoring his look as she walked towards the car. Come on. He was an actor, he had to have a garage full of cars somewhere. At least, in Faith's view of the world he did. She had two cars and she was just a pimp.

Plus, it was like next to lethal to put Faith behind the wheel of a car. So the idea that she had two made her want to laugh a little bit.

It didn't seem to be the case though, so Faith just slipped into the passenger seat of the car, not quite understanding how it was that she had a nicer car than Angel did. "Mind if I smoke in here?" She asked him but didn't wait for him to answer before she lit up. It was too bad he didn't have the kind of car where the top went down. That would be something.

"What are you gonna do if it's still there?" She asked him.

He shot her a glare when she remarked on the car being something that would give the teeny bopper set soaked panties. Considering he remembered her pretty damn well when she was sixteen he really didn't want to go there.

He'd have to mention this to Grace later. A little quid pro quo. "What's the WB? Nevermind." He raised a palm to her, shushing her before she found something else to insult him about. Knowing her it was was probably some porn thing. Wedging himself into the car his hand searched blindly under the seat for the lever that would move the seat back. He'd always thought Connery was tall. Must be one of those Hollywood tricks.

"Go ahead." It wasn't like he planned on keeping this car. Hell he might just pull over and give it to some homeless person if it didn't go any faster. At least the streets were familiar, although things really did look different during the day. Thirty minutes later he parked in front of his hotel. The sign didn't say Hyperion here, it said San Lucas Hotel, but it was the same building. And it was abandoned.

"Give me a minute." He got out, taking his time walking up to the front gate and into the courtyard. He sat down on a bench, remembering different times, with different people. None of it had ever happened here.

The San Lucas Hotel. Faith frowned at the sign from the passenger seat of the Volkswagen and just nodded at Angel when he asked her for a minute. She sat in the front seat for awhile just waiting on him to do whatever he needed to do. After four cigarettes she started to play around with the radio, happy that at least Connery wasn't a big fan of Barry.

After a couple of songs she let herself out of the car and started to hunt around the grounds for Angel. Finally, she found him sitting on a bench quietly.

She wasn't sure what to say to him so she just sat down next to him and looked around. It was strange to her, to have this building here without Angel inside of it. This was his place.

"We could buy it back?" She offered helpfully. She wasn't sure how expensive it was to buy a hotel but she figured between Connery's cash and whatever she had in the bank off of her high class escort service, they could afford one little hotel in Los Angeles.

She wasn't sure that was the issue though. Less the building, and more the people who once occupied the space inside of the building. You couldn't buy them back.

"No." It didn't take Faith long to find him in the courtyard. He was pretty sure this was as low as he could go, something alcoholics call a moment of clarity. This place was empty, a lifeless shell. Whatever it used to be to him, it wasn't anymore.

If he thought she would care he'd tell her about Jasmine, Connor losing it, Cordy being in a coma...something they'd have in common. The truth was once they'd figured what Jasmine had done to her, all the feeling's he'd had for her had come rushing back. Now he'd lost any chance to even talk to her again.

"Don't tell Buffy about the daylight thing. Spike either. You know, if you happen to talk to either of them." He swallowed, looking back up at the clouds in the sky. "So what are you doing in New York? Your either bored as hell or doing something to pass the time."

Angel wasn't going to mention the smell of a certain someone that was sticking to Faith like white on rice. This wasn't his world, he didn't care. He couldn't.

Faith quirked an eyebrow in his direction when he told her not to tell Spike or Buffy about the daylight thing. He didn't have to ask her twice about Buffy. It wasn't like she wanted to advertise that Angel was one step closer to a real boy to Buffy. She felt a little bad about it though. Wasn't that what they were always waiting for? The chance to be together and normal? Normal wasn't for them.

Spike on the other hand, was gonna be hard. Because Faith wanted to rub it in his face that Angel could walk around in the sun and he couldn't.

Unless he could too.

"Shit." Faith muttered thinking about Spike back in New York with Buffy.

Angel snapped his attention back to her and she realized she'd just cursed outloud. "Sorry." She smiled at him slightly.

"You know me. I stay busy." She answered his question nice and ambiguously. She knew she couldn't keep what she did a secret forever but she could for a little while. "You should come visit."
