where. London

For Edward, a little hack on Link's communication device to figure out where he was hiding was a piece of cake. It took her a few seconds to find Link's location, a few minutes to get herself dressed for the outside world, and then she was off. As she walked through the streets, Ein at her side, she hummed loudly to herself ("She wore an itsty-witsy, teeny-weenie yellow polka dot bikini!") and twirled every so often. Most people ignored her.

Ed picked up her pace when the sidekick on her hip beeped. "Almost got 'im," Ed said to Ein cheerfully. Link was just a few yards away, shorter and younger than Ed had ever seen. She couldn't even hop on top of him like this. "Yoo-hoo! Linky-Link!" She waved as she approached.

It was difficult to say that any of the events of his life had been the weirdest, but leaving Termina for Hyrule and ending up here without Epona was probably pretty high on the list. And Navi was all sad. What did she have to be sad about? He'd found her!

Link didn't like this town. It smelled bad, and those... what were they called, cars? They weirded him out. Fortunately, he heard a voice calling him. Or calling for a "Linky-Link." He turned and saw a pretty girl with red hair running towards him. Why did every redhead insist on giving him a nickname?

"Hi. Oh, you're Edward, aren't you? I recognize your face from the... the thingy."

On her best days, Edward was easily amused. This situation really gave her giggles. So much so that she was covering her mouth a little to try and stop from laughing too loud. Link was almost her height and his voice was different. Ed didn't even have to reach up to play with his ears. Ein barked and sniffed at Link and Ed composed herself enough that she could speak. "Edward is Edward," she said, "And Ein," she pointed at the dog, "is Ein. Edward and Ein are Linky's friends."

"Are you? I'm sorry I don't remember." She reminded him of Romani. For one thing, both of them were insane. Link knelt down and let the dog smell his hand, as he'd been told at some point you were supposed to do. "Um... how long have we been friends?"

It probably said something about the strange realities of being the Hero of Time that it hadn't even occurred to him not to believe her. But then again, it happened to him all the time, so why shouldn't it happen to anyone else? "And have you seen my horse around here? Her name is Epona, and she gets skittish lately when I leave her."

"Mmmm," Edward chewed the inside of her cheek as she tried to think of how long she'd been friends with Link. She wasn't the best when it came to keeping time. "A while," she said brightly after a moment.

"Epona is waiting outside Bebop." A pause. "Bebop is home-home." She stood on her tip-toes and swayed as though dancing to music.

"Why is my horse waiting outside your home? Even if we are friends, and I have been here for a long time, shouldn't she be waiting outside my home? And what kind of name is Bebop? Is it a ranch or a village?"

It was times like this that he missed Navi. He always missed Navi, every second of every day, but especially when people were talking about things that he would understand if he had grown up like other kids. Maybe that's what guardian fairies were for.

"Edward lives with Linky-Link," Ed said with a grin, as though it was the most obvious thing in the world. "Bebop is a ship. Linky will see."

Edward held out her hand for Link to take. It was time to show him Bebop. Ed had done this once before so she already had an idea of what his reaction would be.

Link had had some bad experiences with ships in the past. As a result, he'd gained a healthy distrust of pirates, sailors in general, and sea-faring vessels. "I live on a ship with you? Huh. No one lives in trees anymore." Sensible people lived in trees.

Link looked at Ed's hand for a moment before taking it. He could probably trust her. For one thing, she would have been the worst pirate imaginable. But why would Epona be on a ship? Epona hates the water.

Ed grinned and started to walk, doing her best to keep control of herself and not speed down the block with Link in tow. She skipped, Ein at her heels. "Bebop is very very pretty. Link will see."

Bebop wasn't too far away. Though the ship didn't have fuel to fly, it could be moved from time to time by friends who could use magic. Ed had moved Bebop into a park not too long ago. The ship sat in the middle of a bed of grass, surrounded by trees. Now, Ed was glad of the move. Link would definitely be more comfortable with trees in view.

"We're going the wrong way. The river is over there." Maybe it curved in around itself? The Zora River was so curvy that it touched on almost all the regions of Hyrule. On the other hand, it wasn't deep enough to have boats on it, much less ships.

"Hey, those are trees. What is this, like a--whoa!" Epona had come trotting up on her own, apparently sensing Link in the area. "Hey, girl, how'd you get so big?" Link ran up to her and patted her on the neck. She gave Link a few sniffs, decided that it was just one of those Hero of Time things, and licked his face. "Come on, Edward's taking me to her ship. I didn't know you liked the water."

Edward, smart enough to know when to choose her battles, didn't touch Epona. The horse didn't hate her as much as she had when they'd first met, but there was a clear sense of animosity from Epona. Ed wasn't scared of the horse, but Link always told her to be careful, so she didn't ever leap onto Epona like she wanted. One day, maybe.

"No water," Edward grinned. "Not that kind of ship-ship." The trees got a little thicker and taller. Soon there was a glint of metal between the leaves. "Be-bop!" Edward said, pointing.

"No water? What kind of ship doesn't have--whoa." It was... wow. Link had been an adult for a part of his life, but he had been a very immature adult. Now, he was a reasonably mature child, but still a child. "That is so cool!" Epona, who was used to it, wandered off to find some sweeter grass, but Link rushed right up to the hull.

"It's huge. What's it made of? This isn't wood. Is it metal? What does it sail in? How's it work?" Without waiting for any answered, Link jumped up and grabbed a ledge, then scrambled up.

Edward grinned a very large grin. She'd been expecting something else, not the childish excitement. Watching him climb up, Ed snatched Ein up in one arm and then started to agilely climb up a ladder. "Metal ship. It flies through the air with the greatest of ease." A pause, " When it has fuel." She flipped up the last step and put Ein down. "Welcome-welcome home!"

Link had never been on a ship, either one that floated or one that flew. Boats didn't really count. "Can it fly to the moon? If it had fuel, I mean. I went to the moon once. It was covered in flowers and trees. And a giant evil face that wanted to destroy the world because an evil mask took over a god-kid so it could get up there. Mostly the flowers, though."

Link kept careful balance as he walked from stem to stern, sliding a bit on the glass windows before he walked back the other way. "This thing is huge! Is it just you and me and Epona and Ein living here? You could probably fit Kokiri Village in here. Why do I live here, anyway?"

Ed giggled. She'd heard stranger stories, so she wasn't really confused or put off by it. She'd even lived through worse. "Bebop-Bebop can from past the moon. To Jupiter. Even Pluto!" A pause. "But there's no face-face on the moon where Edward's from."

Ed danced and pointed at a door on the ship. "Just us! Edward brings friends over. Linky does, too!" She paused at his question, because she couldn't quite remember why Link had chosen to live there. After a minute she shrugged, "Papa Jet-Jet went away-way and then Linky came to live in Bebop."
