who. Frank and Alice
what. Getting engaged. Finally!
when. Friday evening
where. Some fancy dive in London
why. We've been planning this for MONTHS

It was pretty damn convenient that Alice had asked him out to dinner somewhere nice. In the back of his head, Frank wondered if Neville had somehow let it slip that Frank had been shopping around for an engagement ring. Maybe this was Alice's way of pushing him to pop the damn question already. He wouldn't put such a move past her. As Frank straightened his collar, he looked himself over in a mirror. There was a nervous grin on his face. Now was one of those moments that he'd kill for a cigarette. Not that there was much doubt that Alice would say yes. They were practically married already, very much in love and happy together. Still, he was a jumble of nerves.

He was all in order and it was getting late. After a moment in which he checked his pockets - he'd been carrying the ring around with him for days now, trying to figure out when best to get down on a knee and ask - he cleared his throat, paused for a moment to collect himself and went hunting for Alice.

Frank realized as he craned his neck to try and see Alice's face, that he wasn't terribly hungry. He wasn't really thinking about his stomach. Or anything that wasn't Alice. He glanced at his menu and then up at her. His view was blocked, of course. He simply smiled.

"Alice?" He spoke to the back of her menu. "You want to get out of here?"

Alice put her menu down rather dramatically. "Frank Longbottom, are you suggesting what I believe you're suggesting? Because first of all your son might be home. AND I have granny knickers on that keep my stomach in that I was going to dispose of later so you couldn't see. I can't be letting you take them off," she said, flipping her menu up again dramatically and hitting herself in the face.

He heard the dull sound of laminated paper smacking into her face and had to bite his lip hard to keep himself from laughing. "Um." He choked for a moment, stifling the laughter from his voice, "I don't mind granny knickers." Probably not the smoothest thing to say, but it was true enough. Alice could make anything sexy.

Alice peered at him for a long time in the way a young child peers at someone funny looking at the store. Then suddenly, she just stood up, grabbed her purse, checked for her wand and walked towards the door, only giving Frank one glance back expecting him to follow.

"My mother always did say you were a bad influence on me."

He didn't really need any encouragement. Frank was on his feet and behind her in a second. He only hesitated a minute to slip the man who'd passed them their menus a few bills. It was a lot of money and the waiter hadn't really done anything to earn it. Frank was feeling generous.

"I thought your mum loved me," he said as they got to the door.

"She did. She always said I needed a bad influence or two," Alice said smirking.

She took his hand and pulled him to her. "Hotel, though," she said. She didn't want to be at home and risk Neville coming over. It was saving all of them some red faces.
