Bill Sheats is a vagabond, a rascal. ([info]deusexvampira) wrote in [info]utr_logs,

Who: Bill Turner & Dean Winchester
What: Meeting and Information Gathering
Where: Turner-Sparrow Residence, London
When: Todayish
Warnings: Likely swearing, lots of spooky oogie-boogie talk.

Bill had gotten the call from his descendant about a friend dropping by. He'd heard things about the Winchesters, Dean in particular. He was actually rather looking forward to meeting one of Teague's associates. Teague had given him a run down of what was expected material to dredge up, so he pulled out his journal on Australia, and set it aside, along with a few things any hunter would be interested in. He also made sure they were stocked up on beer and soda.

After that, he went back to his reading up on the laws of this particular London, sat down in the narrow foyer, near the door.

Dean blinked, his jaw dropping. "You've got to let Sam in here. He'll have a heart attack from his geeky joy." He shook his head and ran his fingers along the spine. "God, you must've seen everything. I thought Dad had, but you - you seriously have."

He looked back at Bill. "You've... you're all settled though, right?"

He huffed and shook his head, looking down with a smile. "Not everything. Close, but not everything." He looked up at Dean, and nodded, "Aye, settled as ever. Don't think I'll ever get over my wanderlust, or my desire to see more things. But I've gotten over most of th'excitement. When we get back home - and we will, of that I'm sure - I'll likely get back to runnin' th'island and enjoyin' th'time we've given ourselves to relax." He smiled, "G'on ahead and look through them if y'want, though..." His smile went tilted and playful as he slipped up to one journal that was well-worn. "If I read you right, I'm guessin' you'll be interested in this. It's th'entire works of all th'spells, wards an' protective glyphs and runes I've come across in my travels. This book's impervious to bloody near everything." He offered the book to Dean, grinning up a storm.

Dean couldn't help but return the grin, smiling in a carefree way that almost looked like it didn't belong on his face. Even when Dean was happy, there was usually a fair element of worry to it as well.

"Thanks. I - can I just copy some stuff out of it? I don't even have to borrow it, I can do that here."

"By all means." He said with a nod, "Need a pencil or paper?" He always had plenty of those.

He was glad to help, in fact. His own smile was easy and bright and unbridled. He offered Dean a seat near a writing table, where there was already plenty of paper and a pencil as well as a fountain pen.

"Just know now that if you don't copy some of these things exactly, they won't work. Oh, look who I'm talkin' to, 'course y'know that."

Dean nodded. "Both if you've got 'em, yeah." He blinked when he saw the fountain pen and tried a few test strokes to make sure he had them exactly. He looked like a kid in a candy store, flipping through the book. His eyes lit up at what he knew, and they lit up more at what he didn't know.

He copied accurately, making sure to only put one sigil on each page, just to be safe.

Bill watched with interest at what Dean had decided to copy out. "Or I could let you borrow it an' then you could just copy them at your leisure. S'your choice, really. Just so long as it comes back to me eventually." He took a seat and gave a vaguely fond smile. Someone who was so readily willing to learn about the darker parts of the world was a rarity, and someone who already knew was even more rare.

"You said your father had a journal as well, before he died. I assume he and you and Sam, was it? Worked together? Well, if you - any of you - need any thing for any reason, as you see, I've got th'information as well as th'know how and skill. I won't come huntin', too much of a risk havin' a dead man already on th'crew, but you ever need anything... say, stronger'n rock salt an' holy water, you let me know, aye? I'm rather in th'side business of charms and magic." He held up a hand, "Not. Black magic though, I haven't stepped over that line for quite some time, learned my lesson on that one. Beyond that, however, I'm a practicing Hatian Vudoun priest, as well as a jeweler. Need any protection talismans, or whatever else... Just let me know."

He had a calm way to his voice, gentle. It would be hard to tell that the man once was as vicious as any other marauder on the high seas. Well, not as vicious, perhaps. But damned close.

"I'll copy this stuff down, and if I need more, I'll come back later. Good excuse to have a beer, right?" Dean didn't want to borrow the book outright because that meant that there was always a chance that he might not get it back to Bill. He could die in Australia or someone could shoot him or any number of other more morbid possibilities, and he didn't want to take away Bill's protection. He was a good guy, and he'd earned all the protection he could get.

He looked over at Bill and raises he eyebrows. He hadn't been expecting the guy to be a hoodoo man, but hell, they were always handy to have around. "Thanks, really. Sam'd totally want to move in here if I ever do have to bring him by, and Dad. Well. I'll have to sweet talk him into setting foot into a vampire's house." Dean rolled his eyes. For every person that thought he was stubborn, he always wondered what they'd feel like if they met the original model. "He's... alive again."

Heaven only knew how often Bill had to explain that all his eccentricities were on account of Jack's influence. For that, he was able to empathize with Dean. He chuckled and shook his head, "Understandable. I wouldn't want to set foot in one's house either, if I weren't one. Can't really say, 'oh, but they're good vampires, honest.' Doesn't work that way." He shrugged one shoulder, "S'on par with saying that there's good tempered demons and happy reapers. Just doesn't quite sit well with common knowledge. But for every handful, there's a good seed."

He stretched back and grabbed out another book, "So, when it comes to you and your family, I'm guessing it wasn't just mere coincidence that you got into th'business after your mother's murder. Should... whatever happened to spur on your journey come to this world, would you still hunt it?"

Dean shrugged. "Teague said you were a good guy, and I trust him." He continued to copy, listening to Bill and nodding agreement at his words. He'd met a reaper with a good soul once - granted, she'd been trying to take him at the time, so he hadn't properly appreciated it - but it raised a good point.

Then he talked about Yellow Eyes, and Dean nodded. "Yeah. I - I'd think about it for a while. I've got a girl now, and I want to marry her and you know, live a straight life for a while. Regular civilian and all that. But if he came through, I'd have to. It'd tear me up, tearin' up my new family like that, but..." He let his voice trail off, not used to being so prone to confession. Bill had a weird father figure vibe about him, and Dean chuckled. "You'd make a hell of a therapist, you know that?"

Bill smiled warmly and listened, flipping through the book of Demons idly, listing them all by name and their aliases, what their powers were, and how they worked. It was far from complete, but what he did have was enough to give him a crawling, slimy sensation up his spine. He was fairly certain what Dean had dealt with was one, he just wouldn't pry any further unless Dean wanted to know, or wanted to divulge. He looked over the pages at Dean with a smile, "Well, I did go to school for it, might have somethin' t'do with that. But I'd be utterly horrible at it with th'general population. I get bored easily with mundane issues." He smirked, "I'd have t'tell them off y'know. So they're up to their eyeballs in debt and their wife's cheating. Ever have to face a nest of harpies? No? Stop complainin' an' go make love t' y'wife. Fuckin' wanker." He smirked and shook his head. "To be honest, only here would I feel right in workin' in that field. Haven't met a normal person yet."

Dean chuckled and sat up. "Yeah, I don't think there are any normal people here, and even if there were, they'd meet Superman or whatever and be not-normal. This place does it. I actually kind of like it." He stretched his back, hearing it pop, and winced.

"Harpies? Never seen those, never wanted to. I'm good, thanks." He chuckled and kept flipping through the book. "Yeah, I bet you could've gotten 800 degrees if you wanted. That's..." He let his voice trail, realizing belatedly that talking about how lonely vampires must be probably wasn't the best topic for discussion.

He laughed and shook his head, "Twelve, actually. Had other obligations." But the man's trailing off made Bill go a bit sheepish, "There's not much that can ruffle my feathers, Dean. You don't have to worry about it. I grew up around pirates, mate. Be as crass as you'd like." He assured the other man in a warm tone. He went back to looking through his own book while talking once more. "It's not as bad as you'd think. It's a bit hard when you make friends you know you'll outlive, but that's really the most painful part of it. I've had Jack th'whole time, and he's had me, we likely wouldn't be able to do much without each other around. Sure, there were rough patches, a decade here and there where we spent time apart, but we always managed to come back together. A sire and his fledge are bonded strongly. Not as strongly as Hollywood would have you believe, but... it's a family bond, if anything."

Dean ran his fingers through his hair somewhat sheepishly. "I was just thinking that you've had a lot of time to do things." He didn't want to rub it in if that time had been cruel in any way.

Closing the book, Dean stood and stretched out his legs. "I can completely understand family bonds." He smirked a little as he handed Bill back the book. "Sam and I have... let's just say that I'd die for that kid."

That got a fond smile from the vampire, nodding once. "Aye, had a twin brother, myself. Know how y'feel on that. Unfortunately, he's th'one what died for me." There was a bit of resignation in his tone, he'd long since accepted it, but he missed Robert to that day.

"Do Sam a favor and don't do anything stupid. He'll only ever blame himself." He had a level tone and steady eyes focused on Dean as he spoke, but he wasn't harsh. "Look after him, protect him, but never put yourself between him and something that he can fight himself."

Dean blinked and stopped for a moment when he realized that Bill had pegged his father without even meeting him, or even having been in the discussion. He swallowed hard, then moved again, regaining his momentum and nodded.

"Yeah, I'll - I'll keep that in mind." He didn't want to spill any more of his guts than he had, but at times, it was all he could do to keep himself from going to his father and screaming at him that it hadn't been his right, that he shouldn't have done what he did. Even if he understood.

Bill tilted his head just slightly. "I apologize. Didn't mean to strike so close to home with that." His brow furrowed just a bit. "On the lighter side of things, I can tell you for certain that there's much less to worry about in this world than any reality I've been privy to. S'likely because most everyone here seems to wish to get along and coexist in relative peace. All th'vampires I've met are levelheaded and non-territorial, th'demons I've seen are cordial an' charming, an' God an' Satan seem to be on fairly good terms. S'... rather odd, actually."

"Oh, it's fine. My Dad just... he did that." He shrugged and shoved a hand into his pocket. "That, and the bad stuff that comes through here has a fuckin' army to deal with. I mean, Superman, so many X-Men... bad guys are pretty much screwed here unless they get along." It's what he'd do if he was a bad guy. There was no point in trying to take over the world there, it just couldn't happen.

"God's..." Dean chuckled sheepishly. "Quite a lady. Not as ... well, I love Bela, but yeah. Nice lady, God."

There was a sly smile. "I hear from a friend that she's a good lay." Bill? Crass? Heavens no.

He gave a one-shouldered shrug, "I wouldn't know. Rather keep to my own set of proclivities, and deities aren't one of those. Had my chance once with Calypso, but well, couldn't quite see her as anything but a mother figure. Pretty, but... not quite." He smirked. "Fucked Luck, though."

Yeah, he was still smug about that.

Dean couldn't help but laugh out loud. "That she is, my friend." He shook his head. "I kind of figure that I have to do something when God says so. Though she knows not to ask now that I'm spoken for."

He leaned against a desk, folding his arms. "Luck? Nice. I generally keep to humans. Y'know, it's safer for someone like me. But wow. How'd that go?"

"Well, it must've gone fairly well f'her, since I'm still walkin' an' talkin' to this day." He pointed out with a wry smile. "She's rather a generous lover. Her sister, Destiny, she's a frigid bitch, though. Can tell y'that much. Then again, you'd probably rather not deal with embodiments of theoretical concepts just in general. They're fickle, forgetful, and all have a sense of humor on them that you could only assume is due to their bein' around for so long. I can almost see where they're comin' from."

Dean chuckled and shrugged. "She kinda likes my whole family, actually." He didn't really get God's soft spot for the Winchesters, but whatever.

He listened to Bill speak and it made a lot of sense to him. "Sam's dating a goddess, actually. Don't think it's the same for them, though, 'cause she's kind of awesome."

Bill chuckled and shook his head, "Not th'same at all, really. Most gods and goddesses live outside of time, whereas embodied concepts such as Luck live as long as they're conceivable. Or so I've been told. Th'Endless are a bit of both, I think. Th'fact that they're here makes me just a bit more comfortable. If ladies Death and Del weren't about, I would have my suspicions about a place. The wonderful thing about them is that they're everywhere. Not exactly omnipresent, but close." He rubbed his forehead, smiling, "When I saw them on th'boards, I finally relaxed."

Dean sort of understood, but it was really more a matter for Sam. He tried not to have his eyes glaze over, and he perked up when he mentioned Death. "She's pretty nice. Kind of wish we'd had her back home. I mean, some of the reapers I've seen... " Dean shuddered and shook his head. "Not what I'd want to see on my death bed."

"She was there. Is there. Reapers are just around for when she's got other things to do." Bill said with a shrug of one shoulder. "She made a deal with me, once. Long time ago. But that's a long enough story where I'm sure you would find it utterly boring." He waved off the idea and smiled, "Care for another drink?"

Dean nodded. "Yeah, sure. Another of the same, if you've got it. I don't know London that well yet, so I'm a ways off from being able to drive with a beer in me."

He thought about Bill's words, about how Death had been there. He hoped she recruited smarter reapers in his old world in the future.
