His smirk was one of the many things about him that she found adorable, though she'd never tell him so lest he never stop. She picked up a crouton with her fingers, popping it into her mouth and absentmindedly licking at crumbs.
"I suppose that was the thing that ultimately made the difference," she murmured after swallowing. "I don't like being vulnerable. Caring for you if you'd simply wanted me for the physical would have been leaving myself open." Shrugging, she nibbled some more chicken before looking at him. "Thank you."
