Who: Marius and Lulu
What: Dancing
Where: London
When: A couple nights ago
Warnings: none likely, light swearing possible.

He whistled as the driver wound through the streets, straightening his collar for the hundredth time. For some reason they kept getting messed up. It had been a busy pair of hours, since he'd realized rather rapidly that he didn't have any suitable clothing to wear for this, and he was waaay too tall for his dad's clothes.

At least he didn't have to iron it, and his mom had laughed when he'd told her what he'd needed the money for. She'd also, he realized rather belatedly, slipped a string of condoms into his jeans pocket. Which was embarrassing, but at least he knew where she stood on the subject.

Being a gentleman and a realist, he got rid of all but one. If one was insufficient, which he highly doubted, they could get more. If it was one too many, at least it wouldn't make his pants look funny.

He fidgeted with his collar again as they neared the address. He hoped she was as nice as she'd seemed on the message board. It was no fun taking mean girls dancing. Of course, he could always leave if she were too bad, but that would be rude.

He laughed at himself a little, and shook his head. "One thing at a time, self. It's just dancing, not chess."

Lulu could tell he was interested, and she chuckled. "They were outlawed by Yevon - the church - so I didn't use them. But a group of people used them anyway, the Al Bhed, and they had all sorts of things. The airships were the most impressive."

"Right. We went through a period like that here. Except nobody had any technology. What's an airship?"

All said rapidly. If the date bombed from this point on, it would be worth it to hear about the different machines.

"It's a boat that can fly, essentially." She laughed at how excited he was, almost taken aback by the fact he'd made her laugh at all. "You'd have made a fine Al Bhed, I feel."

He grinned. "Maybe. I just like machines."

The waitress came with their drinks, and Marcus thanked her. "Are you ready to order, Lulu?"

He'd been ready, but he didn't know about her.

"Most Al Bhed do," she teased. Lulu scanned the menu, then decided she'd have what he was going to have; she didn't know half the dishes.

She smiled at the waitress. "I'll have what the gentleman is having, thank you."

"I hope you're hungry." He said with a grin.

He ordered a steak with a loaded backed potato, a large salad, a bowl of soup, and some steamed rice and vegetables.

"Goodness," Lulu blinked, shaking her head. "You might have to eat the rest of mine. I'd forgotten how much boys eat." She couldn't help chuckling, sipping her wine. She scooted the glass over toward him so he could have a sip if he wanted.

He laughed, taking her glass carefully. "Thank you. But I only want a sip. Would rather have a clear head for the night."

It was pretty good wine. He knew that much at least. "Are there others from your world, here?"

"If you're an adult, I'll treat you as such." She smiled at him before taking her glass back, taking a longer sip.

His question almost made her wistful, but she hated being sad, and wouldn't allow herself that naive luxury. "Not that I'm aware of. But it's almost a good thing. I'd make me miss home more if someone from Spira was here. What about you?"

"Well, I've got my sister here from my own time, if that's what you mean. And honestly, I'd hate not to have her. She's my twin, you see, so when we're apart it feels as though a chunk of ourselves is missing."

He shrugged, taking a drink of his coffee. "It's better than being alone, anyway. Though being alone isn't terrible, strictly speaking."

"Twins are different, I'd expect. I don't have any siblings myself, except for a girl that I sort of adopted as such." She smiled to herself, thinking of how sweet Yuna was.

"You'd have liked her. Everyone did." Lulu looked wistful for a moment, then inwardly shook herself to regain composure. She smiled at Marcus, shrugging a shoulder. "People come through. Perhaps she will, perhaps she won't, but I can honor her memory." Spirans were good at that.

"Nobody's ever really gone as long as their in your heart."

He was, after all, from a former third world country. He'd seen heartbreak for his whole life. Still, he figured it was different when it happened directly to you.

"What kind of music do you like?"

Lulu smiled. "Not a lot of music where I'm from either. There was a song that the church sang. I hum it sometimes still, when I'm sad or lonely." She shrugged and smiled back at him. "I infer from your question you like many kinds?"

"Yeah. I like all kinds of music, really."

Wow. Her world must be pretty bleak.

Their food arrived and he grinned again. There wasn't much in the way of conversation from him as he started on his meal, obviously enjoying himself a great deal.

Lulu sat for a moment, watching his obvious pleasure from eating. The things she liked best about the new world she was in - besides the lack of huge, destructive monsters being a constant fact - was that the people weren't as tired as Spirans.

She smiled to herself, then started to eat her own food. The smile didn't ebb, and she barely noticed.

Marius finished quickly, and drained his coffee. "Mmmmm. The food here is really good!"

He eyed his companion and smiled. "But nowhere near as good as the company."

She was quite beautiful, and he couldn't wait to actually dance with her.

Lulu chuckled after she finished chewing, wiping her mouth with a napkin. She was glad that the room was fairly dimly lit, and he probably wouldn't see her blushing.

"Thank you. I admit, I'm not used to someone so free with their compliments." She gestured at her plate. "Is there anything here you'd like, or shall we go dance?"

He smiled widely. "Then you've obviously been living around the blind and deaf."

He shook his head. "No, I'm ready to dance. Just let me settle the bill, and we'll be on our way!"

Another compliment, and Lulu ducked her head shyly. "Well, thank you." She nodded at him wanting to settle the bill, and she finished the last of her wine. "You must let me pay for the cab home."

He nodded. "That seems fair."

He waved for a waiter, and handed him a credit card and their check.

It didn't take long for the man to come back with his card, and he held his hand out, standing up. "Shall we?"

She nodded, taking his hand. "Dancing might be different here than it was for me on Spira, so you might have to teach me." She moved closer to him, rather enjoying being out and about with someone male that didn't see her simply as a capable fighter.
