Jade leaned back into him, practically in his lap. She sniffled, her cheek wet against his chest. She was only fourteen. She shouldn't have to deal with this.
She didn't have to ask if she could stay. Her bag was packed. Her mom knew already that she'd be staying the night.
Libby had made some toasted sandwiches and soup. She was in the kitchen, debating whether or not to come out. It was quiet. She didn't want to intrude. But she didn't want to just abandon Jade if her little girl needed her. She eased into the hallway, looking into the living room. Jade's face was turned away from her, but Gojyo could see Libby from where she stood. She looked at him with concern, silently asking him if he wanted her to stay or go.
