Who: Quentin Quire and Sophie Cuckoo
What: Tearful reunion and things

Sophie had been crying all night. At first, she didn't realize anything was wrong. She found out when she tried to wish Quentin good luck on his finals over their telepathic link and his end was blocked. She'd panicked at first, and then the memories came back to her.. What Esme had done. What it had felt like to have her sisters in her brain against her will. What she'd said to Quentin. She was so cruel. Quentin had shut her out, and she wasn't strong enough to reach him on her own if he didn't want her to.

She was relieved when she heard Quentin's voice in her head. She was still shaky, but she had stopped crying for the moment. She felt like she might start again any minute. She'd moved from her room down to the library. Quentin was coming, and it would probably be more appropriate if they were in a more 'public' room. Even if Sophie hoped with every bone in her body that nobody would walk in.

Sophie was trembling. She took a deep, shaky breath when Quentin pushed her back. She wiped her cheeks. Her eyes were red and wet. It was a few moments before she trusted her voice.

"Esme," she said, unable to fully explain it verbally. She didn't know what to say. She still felt so vulnerable. "She.." Please, fill in the blanks. She couldn't even show him over their link, because there was nothing visual, and she didn't want to subject him to the feeling of being controlled.

He stared at her, and his face fell.

"Oh God..."

He pulled her back against him as he remembered every time he had faced an Esme. Few had ever been good.

He stroked her hair.

"Oh Sophie... I am so sorry."

He leaned her face up and kissed her, then hugged her close again, love and warmth and sorrow radiating from him.

"I am so sorry I did not sense her, or help somehow."

Sophie was relieved when he hugged her again. She closed her eyes and just leaned against him. She shook her head a little. Her voice was soft. "Don't apologize... She's strong. She had the fo..three-in-one with her." Sophie had felt the split, too. Faintly, and nothing like when she broke off from the five.. But she felt it. It was the only reason she could still talk to her other sisters.

She took a deep breath and tried to relax against him. She was so glad he understood.

"I love you," she said, her voice so quiet that it was barely audible. She hadn't said that before, ever. They'd been dating a while, and she liked him a lot, and she cared about him and wanted to be with him for a long time.. But she had never said she loved him. He had told her that he loved her before, but she hadn't had experience with love, and she'd wanted to be sure. Now she was.

	Sophie gave him a small smile and then kissed him back. She was still a little shaky, and she didn't know what else to say. It seemed like there wasn't anything else that could be said. Everything else paled in comparison. She was glad he had come. It was a lame thing to say, but he could hear it over their mental link. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

Sophie tensed, physically and psychically when he opened up to her. Her first urge was to pull back, but she knew that would upset Quentin. "I'm not ready.." she explained, shakily. "I.. just want to kinda pretend to be normal for a little while.. Mom would be so mad if she heard me say that, but.. I just. It's hard to believe that I could be a part of something that could do that to a person.." She wasn't in the five-in-one anymore, but she and Esme had shared a strong bond. They had been part of the same person. Sophie held the same potential to commit abuse that Esme did.

She wasn't totally sure what she meant when she said 'normal', and Quentin would probably be confused too. "I don't want you to go away," she said. "And I don't want there to be a wall between us. I want to reach you. It was scary when..." she shook her head a little. "I'm not going to stop using my powers. I just.. I don't know what I mean. I just wanna be a normal telepathic mutant freak, y'know?" she laughed a little, but it sounded forced and strange. It was a bad joke. "I guess I'm just not ready to be that open with anybody right now. I'm still freaked out."

He was utterly confused, but nodded, peering at her.

He gently closed his shields again and just hugged her.

"I can't honestly say I understand what you mean, bt I can understand being freaked out. We'll go as slow as you need, Sophie."

He smiled softly.

"I'm just glad to be with you. When I thought that I would never see you again... "

His entire body was wracked with that shudder.

"I'm just glad to be here with you."

	"Sorry," she said sheepishly, realizing how crazy all her rambling must have sounded. "Just. I'm still getting used to being one-in-one, you know? Developing my own personality and everything. 	Sophie smiled, relieved that Quentin was being so understanding. He was so sweet. "Thank you," she said, kissing him back. She giggled a little at his terminology.
