Similar thoughts preyed Captain's mind, despite himself and his revulsion towards paranoia and over caution. Unexplored territories did lend themselves to those feelings, for "unexplored" by Starfleet and the Federation did not mean that the infinite number of other species in the universe were also in the dark regarding the star system, its planets and the peoples that inhabited it. There was no reason to think that a warship of one species or another, be it a Klingon bird-of-prey or a previously unknown lifeform that had yet to make contact with Starfleet, couldn't make a sudden appearance and take the ship down while it's Captain was away from her. Jack, however, had faith in the decision making capabilities and the leadership of Commander Lok'nah, and despite the newness of much of his crew and their lack of experience, he firmly believed that they were ready for any crisis that they entered upon. After all, the crew had already proved itself to Jack in how quickly and how readily they were to accept the changes in their mission when their fellow crew members went missing, the sheer number of sincerely willing volunteers. They were an eager bunch, eager to prove themselves, but they had kept their heads about them when a crisis materialized out of what should have been a routine mission. That fact had most certainly pleased him regardless of his lack of verbal acknowledgment of their levelheadedness. The crisis would only be officially averted or remedied and their action deserving of reward once the original landing party had been returned to the safety of the Endeavour.
Jack unbuckled himself from his seat the moment that they landed, moving towards the control console and Lieutenant Nowak. The last record that the shuttle beamed out came from the exact co-ordination that their shuttle was now sitting upon. Had the shuttle been there still, they would have been sitting right on top of it. A frown settled upon the captain's face, abduction seeming more and more likely but how could a primitive species have hoisted up the power it would have required to transport the shuttle which weighed upwards of two hundred thousand pounds. Then again, however, primitive species were capable of some very surprising things, if Earth's history was anything to go by, and one could not immediately discount them. And then there was the possibility that there was another lifeform, a species far more superior in technology than the original inhabitants, perhaps with the capability to block Starfleet sensors and thus, not showing up on the readings the Federation and their ship had taken before sending their landing mission. The one thing that was to their advantage was that the computer had managed to map out prominent landmasses such as water bodies, caves, mountains, potential landmarks, as well as temperature readings that marked settlements. As an idle thought, Jack found it remarkable how very similar the readings of the planet were to that of pre-industrial Earth.
"Lieutenant Nowak, please run a scan of Vulcan and Human life forms one more." Atmospheric interference had ultimately left the final readings conducted by Commander Lok'nah useless, returning no admissible data as to the location of any Vulcan and Human life forms on the planet, but there was a chance that that the scanners would work better on the planets surface. They also carried with them tricorders, which specialized in biomarking, would hopefully not be addled by the atmospheric interference, although there was always the chance that the communication shut down was planet-wide. If that were the case then it would definitely have to have been the doing of intelligent, "post-warp" life forms. At any rate, Jack carried with him the universal translator, if and when contact was made, in the absence of a formal linguist. Nevertheless, Jack wanted to keep any and all contact to a minimum, and though they were armed, he'd strictly ordered (well, in virtue of Starfleet regulation, reminded the away team) that confrontation would be as a means of last resort in the event of an attack. Their mandated indicated, after all, that the area had to remain pristine, without trace of Starfleet's activities in the area.
