Remus was in the back room picking up a stack of books when he heard the it'll be okay that reached him through the open door. What would be okay? Remus had to think about it a moment, pulling another few books into his arms to make up another stack. His movements were slower than usual as he attempted to relate the short sentence to something they might have been talking about.
Eventually, it occurred to him. Had Teddy meant the moon? That the moon would be okay? Of course, Remus gotten used to wearing the worry on his face, not wanting to attract attention or pity, naturally, but because even when people were around, they cared about themselves far too much to pay him any mind, and hiding your emotions was far too tiring to do without reason.
Perhaps his son telling him the transformation would be alright shouldn't have made him quite as pleased as it did, or as proud as he was. And maybe he had it wrong, but if Teddy meant anything else, Remus didn't want to know. Those words meant far too much to him in this context and he didn't want to lose them.
He was walking through the doorway again when Teddy cracked his knuckles. Now he was talking about Sirius. The shadow of a smile fell into a concerned frown and Remus suggested, "Would you care to elaborate on that? I hope it didn't come to blows, Teddy." There was no way to be sure who Remus would be upset with more - or who he would take it out on.
