Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Who: Orla Quirke and Dempster Wiggleswade
When: Today starting at ten and ending whenever they get tired of each other
Where: London
Rating: PG
Summary: The two finally meet and enjoy the day together.
Status: Closed/InComplete

For someone like Orla Quirke, meeting a complete stranger whom she had only spoken to sporadically and through their journals wasn't a normal occurrence. She was someone who typically stayed within her small niche of friends and rarely ventured out, and that usually took considerable force. Sure, she was comfortable with talking to everyone on paper; they couldn't see her face and she couldn't see theirs to judge their reactions. Speaking to someone in person was completely different and she always had a horrible habit of reverting into her shell. The quietness came from being an only child - an only child who grew up with only her father since her mother died when she was younger. Mr. Quirke was quiet and it was only natural that Orla would be, too. However, once she finally got to know someone, there was hope that she would open up, and she really hoped that would happen today.

Dressing hadn't taken long; she wasn't the type to fuss about her appearance and wore a simple pair of trousers and a top, as well as a pair of trainers. Though, there was one last touch she had to add: her camera, which she placed carefully around her neck. She apparated close to where the London Eye was and walked the rest of the way to it. She couldn't see it at first because of several buildings, but turning a corner -- there it was. It was one of her favourite things to photograph despite the fact she had never been on it.

Walking closer, it dawned on her that she really had no idea what Dempster looked like. Luckily, he had suggested that they wait for one another next to the queue for the Eye, so she crossed the lawn and leaned against the fence. Her eyes danced across the crowd, looking for anyone who might meet the mental image she had created.

"Well, also, I'm talking about myself as a twelve and fourteen year old boy. Remember how you were at that age. Anything you didn't want to do was a chore. I'm not saying I think that way now. I'm very grateful for the magic I have now. It pays the rent and keeps me fed, even if I have few practical uses for it."

Dempster smiled at Orla's expression. "I'll admit the Ministry is rushing things, forcing the marriages so soon. I'm surprised more witches and wizards aren't leaving the country but I see see other Ministry's following suit." Shaking his head, he wasn't sure to make of any of it. "You could get lucky enough to find someone you get along with." A brief flash of Orla, with his last name flittered through his mind, making no sense at all.

When he corrected her, saying that he had meant having a hard time transitioning with magic when he was younger, she laughed softly at herself. She had gone on a tirade, thinking one thing, and it had turned out to be another. "Oh," she said, trying to keep from blushing. "Forget all that then? I didn't mean to go on like that - and I wasn't even right with what I said!"

Glancing down at her hands in her lap, she picked at one of her nails and shrugged her shoulders. "Not many people have places they can go outside of the country so they're stuck here," she said and looked across the train at the people across from them. "Perhaps. But I just don't like the idea of being paired with someone I don't know. That's the biggest part about this that I hate, you know? Having to marry a complete stranger - I just don't want to be stuck with someone who I can't be comfortable or happy with."

She bit into her lip, keeping her emotions in check and glanced up at him. "You can't like the idea either - what if, for example, they paired you with that woman over there?" she asked, pointing to a woman on the other side of the train. "You don't know anything about her and in a week or two, you have to be married."
