Who: Harry, Hermione and Ron
When: Monday @ Lunch
Where: The Ministry
What: Together...because we're due for a Trio thread.
Rating: E for Everyone
Status: Closed / In Complete

Harry was slowly starting to go stark raving mad. He wasn't used to silence. Even at the Dursley's there had been some form of interaction....even if it contained physical or verbal abuse. At least there was another person around. He was starting to spend greater amounts of time at Work simply to avoid spending more time in the strangely quiet house. He swore some nights not even the animals made a noise. He hated it. Thankfully, the two weeks mark was coming up and he couldn't wait to not be the only living person in the house. There was still the dog and the owl, but neither one of them really made all that much noise or spoke, which left him quite on his own.

During this quietness, he'd come to the realization that Ron, Hermione, and himself had not been in the same room together in ages, which really needed to be fixed. The problem with that though, was they each had their own lives. Different careers, different schedules, different lives. Hell, they were all either married or in the process of getting married and Harry knew exactly how far ones mind could stray during times like that. Thankfully, there was one place he knew he could catch the both of them with a little work.

As noon approached, Harry started his search, first hunting down Ron. Being in the same department made it a lot easier to find him. Harry personally wished they worked on more cases together, but he was glad to at least be in the same vacinity most of the time. Finally spotting him on the busy floor, Harry headed in that direction. Afterward, the two of them could go and pry Hermione away from her work.

"Ron!"

Harry followed Ron's lead, coming up on the other side of her chair. "It's been so long since we have." he added, with a grin, refraining from kissing her. Not only had he never really been the sort of person to do that, he didn't think that would float very well with Daphne, even though Hermione was simply a good friend. He'd rather not be in the doghouse when she came home.

"We even promise not to force you on a broom," he added with a grin, carefully taking the quill from her hand and placing it safely out of reach. "Ron and I have come to the conclusion that you have enough work ethic for all three of us and that simply isn't fair. The solution to this problem? We return to days of old and find as much trouble as we possible can."

They really could cause much trouble by getting some lunch and fresh air, but a guy could dream, couldn't he? "It's about time, Hermione Granger broke some rules with the rest of us. I hear you used to be rather good at it."

Hermione started protesting the moment Ron started pulling her chair away from her desk and gave a glare at Harry when he plucked her quill out of her hand. Really, she had tons of work to do and said just that. "I have a lot of work to do, I can't just run off for an hour; I can eat lunch here," she protested, even as Harry's final musings about her having not broken the rules in years left her with a faint blush on her cheeks.

She quickly glanced at Ron, trying to discern if he had actually told him about what they had done, but she wasn't able to tell whether he had or hadn't. Recovering quickly, she cleared her throat and finally stood. "Exactly how many rules can you break while getting lunch?" she asked, reaching for her handbag. "Unless, of curse, you plan on not paying for your meal and leaving an awful mess behind."

Ron held her up, and moved to put his hand around her waist, "You can break as many rules as you want, Miss. Granger. I'll never tell," and he winked at her and smirked, and then stepped away from her slightly, reluctantly. He looked to Harry, making a leading gesture, "Fearless leader, lead on! We want to follow you," and he reached down for Hermione's hand and raised it waving at Harry, "We are ready!"

He glanced at Hermione, and his smile changed to something more warm and intimate, happy to be seeing her again. He watched Harry's back and raised her hand and kissed the back of it.

"You are a sight for sore eyes, Hermione," he said quietly, and worrying he would upset her too much, he moved to let go of her hand as they followed after her.

Harry offered Ron a glare at that. "You know, you are really killing the whole mood with that leader stuff." he responded, making a face, even though he knew the redhead was joking. Despite his dislike of the title, Harry turned and led the way, blissfully ignorant to what was going on behind him. Who knew how he'd ultimately react to the discovery that his friends were a little closer to each other then he'd thought.

It wasn't that he wouldn't be happy for them. That wasn't the case at all. As long as they were happy, he would be happy. It could be guessed that there would be the sense of being an unnecessary add-in. The trio would ultimately become a duo. Who knew? He was quite content to remain as he were.

"Any place you two fancy dining at?" he asked, holding the door to the lift open as Ron, Hermione, and several other Ministry employees entered.

It was rather awkward having Ron that close while Harry was standing there and anyone within her department could see. Hermione tried to play along, still trying to act exasperated at being destroyed, though she did laugh slightly when Ron made her wave her hand at Harry so they could get going.

"So are you," she said to Ron. However, once Harry's back was turned, she threw Ron a quick look. When he pressed a kiss to the back of her hand, she withdrew it quickly the moment he let go of it, as if burned, and looked around to make sure no one had seen that. "Stop. Not here," she mouthed and shook her head. They couldn't do things like that here, surely he understood? If they were caught and suspected, there could be a lot of hell to pay under the new Ministry law.

Stepping into the lift, Hermione adjusted the bag on her shoulder and shrugged her shoulders at Harry, smiling again. "You two decide since it's your brilliant plan, after all."

Ron followed both of them on to the lift, "Well, I say it's bloody hot outside, so something like sandwiches or salads?"

He knew that would please Hermione, and he went on, "There's that little place, in Mayfair near Hyde Park that would be nice? We can apparate there, to that spot in the park, and walk across the street. I've got some Muggle money on me."

He looked at Hermione and waggled his eyebrows, trying to get her to laugh some. He moved over to Harry's side and nudged him, "You both look different, you know. It must be the married life, and all of the 'benefits' you get. Poor me, always the bridesmaid and never the bride," and he let out an exaggerated exhale, "But some day, will be my day, I'm sure of it."

He moved in front of both of them, "So, I promise, no more marriage talk until I, too, have done the deed. Then we can all swap tales, and meet on Saturdays at the park and barbecue together. Isn't that what Muggles do on the weekends, Hermione?"

He liked poking fun at the situation; it was his way of making a potentially serious lunch turn to lighter topics. Better to get it out in the open, and be done with it

Harry snorted at that. "Somehow, I can't exactly picture Daphne as the Barbeque kind of girl." he laughed, glancing over at Ron. Was he really all that changed? He didn't think he was. He simply had a smile on his face far more often. That couldn't possible cause that much of a difference. "But I am interested in what you consider to be benefit's, Ron."

Lately the topic of marriage wasn't exactly a light subject. Even among them, he really didn't think it was a good idea. His own marriage was...while a little rocky at times, something he was rather enjoying. As for Hermione, he had no idea how she felt. She didn't know the situation between her and Stephen and wasn't one to press for details. She was a smart girl and could handle herself. If she needed help she would ask. It was as simple as that.

"Sandwiches sounds good though."

The entire marriage subject typically caused Hermione's temper to increase and this instance was hardly an exception. Shoulders squared, Hermione inclined her chin slightly and pursed her lips. He actually had the gall to discuss her marriage after the things they had done together? After she had explained to him several times over that she didn't agree with the marriage parings and that the only reason she had agreed to it was because she couldn't afford the fine and because she had wanted the case she had been working on to go through without penalty. She wasn't in love with Stephen, for goodness sake.

"Someday, indeed," she said, her voice slightly terse. "And perhaps there are benefits; having an additional person pay the monthly rent and grocer bill is rather nice." Crossing her arms over her chest, she stared ahead as they walked to the apparation point.

"Sandwiches are fine with me, too." And then getting her wand out of her pocket, she apparated to the place Ron had mentioned without another word.

Ron was ready to discuss what 'benefits' might mean, when he realized he had stepped in it, again. He immediately regretted peeving her; he had been trying to talk about things in a veiled, hidden kind of way, and as she snapped at his comment, he realized he'd botched it. He looked at Harry when she apparated, and said, "I'm sorry, I'm sorry. I should not be talking about this stuff with her. It's upsetting to her, and to me."

He reached out an arm to Harry, to make him pause, "She's not happy with her marriage. She and Stephen barely spend any time together. They haven't even," and Ron swallowed, and moved closer, "Been together as man and wife. When we get there, no more marriage talk, okay? I thought I could get her to laugh," and he shook his head, "Well, that did not work, did it? We can talk benefits later, just you and me maybe? I feel terrible, Harry. I don't want to spoil our time together, you know?"

He nodded to Harry, and stepped in an apparated as well. He caught sight of her, heading towards the shop, and he ran across the street, to catch her by the arm.

"I'm a git, you know. I shouldn't open my mouth, half the time. I'm insensitive, and a louse, and cannot tell a joke for a damn."

He stepped forward to hold her, and comfort her; he whispered softly so only she could hear, "I am so sorry, love. Really, Hermione, love, I didn't mean to get you upset."

Briskly walking to the shop they had agreed to eat at, Hermione had every intention of getting there before them so she could order the sandwich she wanted and find a seat. However, Ron reached her and pulled her arm just as she was about to open the door, and she sighed. She leaned into the embrace, though perhaps a bit rigid and not as acceptingly as she normally would.

"You really cannot stop, can you?" she asked, her voice straining as she tried not to yell at him. "Harry might be happy with his marriage and you and Ana seem perfectly content to go along with getting married without any reservations, but it feels as if you keep rubbing both of those right in my face!"

Pulling away from him, she adjusted her hand bag and pushed her hair roughly behind her ears. "After - after the other day, I had assumed you would be a bit more sympathetic or, I don't know, different, but right now, you're being really insensitive!"

"Hermione, it's not that. I was trying to throw him off the scent, you know? Like if we were talking about the marriage stuff, he'd never suspect," and he stepped forward and tucked a wayward hair behind her ear that she had missed. He was looking down on her, and it was easy to lean down to whisper in her ear, "I don't want to tell him, or even think that something is up. I'm not worried about me; I want you safe. Can we meet, maybe later this week, just you and me?"

He stood straighter, and held the door open for her, "I'm sorry, Hermione. I was trying to act my normal self, but maybe that wasn't such a great idea. I don't want him to see me all moppy and such."

They were standing in line, to place their order, and then pay at the end of the line. The place made amazing salads in these huge bowls, and these great, thick sandwiches. Ron stood behind her, being careful not to touch her, and turned his head, trying to catch sight of Harry.

Hermione couldn't decide whether he was telling the truth or no; of course neither of them wanted Harry to know what had happened between the two of them, but she sincerely doubted that Harry would turn the both of them into the Ministry for violating one of its laws. Pursing her lips together, she shook her head.

"I don't think that's a good idea," she said, squaring her shoulders because she knew he would press it further. He always did. "You're nearly married, after all."

Stepping inside, Hermione waited in line and looked over the selections before deciding on having a simple club sandwich with mustard only. She, too, glanced out the door for Harry as she waited on her food.

Harry was confused, not to mention slightly disturbed. Hermione was one of his closest friends and would always be that ... but he didn't want to know anything about what She and Stephen got up to...or apparently weren't doing. Ron on the other hand was in full knowledge of it, which was strange, or at least Harry thought so. If Ron was attempting to throw him off, his plan was backfiring. As far as Harry was concerned they were acting strangely. He didn't know why, but he knew there was something.

It had been a couple minutes since Ron had apparated away from him. Harry shook his head slightly and finally followed after him. When he arrived, he had to look for Ron and Hermione. He found them in line already. Instead of going to stand with them, he fell in behind the couple behind them. He was the one who had hung around at the Ministry. He didn't mind waiting a bit longer.

Ron looked down at her, wanting to debate with her, but this was not the place, with ears everywhere to get into it. He made a small face, and nodded in agreeance. He looked, and caught sight of Harry behind them. Ron said, over some people's heads, "Do you want me to get you something, and you score us a table?"

The place was filling up, and Ron hoped they could find a place to sit inside, as opposed to out. This was a Muggle place, and they didn't have cooling spells on the outdoor tables. As Hermione approached the counter, Ron reached down and got a tray for her, and one for himself. He reached for the cutlery and knapkins as well. He was ready to order for her, but fell silent, knowing that might cross the line.

He felt protective towards her; their intimacy had only strengthened his protective nature towards her, even if it was an experience they would never repeat. He loved her, even if he had made a complete and utter mess with the jokes. He had thought she would join in; he should have known better. He felt protective of her, and was upset with himself for not realizing that his plan would make her more upset than humored.

Harry was completely unsure of what was going on between Ron and Hermione, but he figured they would work it out eventually. They always did. He didn't think it had been anything in regards to him. If it had been, surely they would have said something.

When Ron asked if he wanted to grab a table, he shrugged. The place was filling up fast. It might be a good idea to grab a seat. "Uh, yeah. Just get me turkey and swiss." he responded, handing Ron some Muggle money as he moved by them to get them all a table. He normally had both muggle and wizarding funds on him. He was no stranger to the Muggle spots in the area. Besides, if something happened it would be good to be able to get around in both of the two worlds.

It only took the person making her sandwich a minute to do so and Hermione grabbed a bag of crisps to go along with it and a bottle of water. Paying for it herself, she took the tray Ron had given her and maneuvered her way to the seats Harry had gotten for them. Taking a seat opposite him, she gave him a small, strained smile.

"This was a really good idea. The three of us haven't really done anything together in quite awhile." Opening the bag of crisps, she poured them onto a napkin and slid them in the middle of the table for anyone who wanted them.

Ron ordered two sandwiches, grabbed some crips for himself, and an over-sized brownie that he'd share. He paid, and knew he'd drop Harry's money on his mate's desk when they got back; there was no sense in arguing with Harry in the shop. He hated Harry giving him money; he could pay for both of their lunches easily. With the water bottles added to his order, he turned and headed straight for them.

Ron sat between the two of them and sighed happily as he unloaded the food. He paused, watching her for a minute, and then he took a bite of his ham and swiss sandwich.

"We should all get together more often. You both could come to my place."

He said this, the smirk playing across his face as he tried to make his eyes look innocent. He waited for her to kick him under the table. Oh, he wanted to get her alone again, in the worst way. It was terrible, but he couldn't be near her without thinking about those intimate details. He found himself almost blushing and he shoved his sandwich in his mouth to shut himself up.
