He had picked out some tulips.  They seemed like the flowers to give a 'friend.'

He stepped out, and stood for a minute, checking his robes for any soot.  He was wondering what had prompted this request, and he thought it might have something to do with the new decree that had came down the floo pipe.  He was curious as to what kind of punishment would be inflicted for committing adultery.  Did it punish in degrees?  Was snogging given a harsher punishment than shagging?  What about hold hands?  He pondered the implications, and wondered how they'd even know?  Where they all being monitored?  Like  the wands, was there a test to see where the lips had been last, similar to the spell that could tell what spell was cast last on a wand?  What about checking a person's private bits?  What happened if a guy paid for sex?  He'd heard of some wizards doing that.  Would that count as adultery?  It was, of course.  It was a huge subject to try to examine.   He wondered how much of it he could speak with Hermione about.  She was not too keen to discuss the topic of sex in general.  He felt his chanced fading rapidly that he'd ever lie with her, naked, skin to skin as he did in his dreams.

"Hermione?" he called out, cradling the vase of tulips.

Hermione didn't have an answer as to whether or not the new edict would apply to those who had been married for decades, but she assumed that it would. She assumed that everyone under their Ministry of Magic would be held accountable regardless of their stature and when they were married. So, she merely shrugged her shoulders.

"I do too, Ron," she said, playing with her food once more before taking a bite They needed a different topic of conversation and one that didn't relate to the marriage laws whatsoever.

"How is the shop?" she asked after a moment, taking a sip from her drink and looking up at him.

He took a bite, and then wiped his mouth, "This is good, Hermione. The shop is going brilliantly. I came up with some new little devices to deliver messages, instead of just sending an owl. They are sort of like howlers, only much nicer to receive. George can't keep them on the shelf."

He paused, and drank a bit, "The flat is fine. I started working on the garden, up top. I think I'm going to ask Neville to come over and give me some advice about what else to plant. George and I have been hanging out there, at night, and its been great."

He looked at her, "What about you? I mean, how is it to be married? Should I be worried, Hermione? I haven't lived with anyone since we went about, camping in that damn tent that smelled like the cat."

Mildly impressed at the invention he came up with, Hermione gave him a smile. "So it's similar to a howler, only it doesn't exactly yell at you when you open it?" she asked for clarification. It was a good idea, really.

She envied the idea of having a garden. Living in London and in a flat at that, she didn't have the space or the area outside to make one herself. "After Neville gives you an idea of what else to plant, I'd really like to see it."

And then they were back to square one. Hermione resisted the urge to sigh and took her time chewing the bite in her mouth. "I really don't know what it's like to be married, actually. Stephen and I might live here, wear these rings, and have it on paper that we're married, but we don't act like we're married," she explained. "We generally stay out of each other's way most of the day and have dinner, but that's really the extent of the entire situation."

He tucked in a bit, and realized she needed him to explain the contraptions he'd come up with.

"They are not like howlers, in the sense of communicating the message in a hostile way. Both of the inventions sort of hatch or pop out of eggs. One turns into a dragon, that flies about and puffs out a heart and then puffs out your message in the middle of it. We are thinking about changing the dragon to other animal forms, like a bird, a butterfly or a phoenix."

He paused, "The other one is more like a singing telegram, with these little eggs that hatch into chicks, and then they all sing the message to you. We've changed the shapes to a couple others. We've got singing cats, singing puppies, and singing rabbits. And the chickens. It's kind of cute."

"It's sort of crazy. I made them, thinking about you. And of course you are welcome to come over and see the garden. It was George's idea, but I am sure enjoying it."

He sighed, "Well, I guess I am going to find out sooner than later what being married is like. Who knows, right?"

Hermione nodded as he further explained the things he had came up with, actually finding them fascinating. While she doubted they really had a practical reason since letters and owls were the predominate way to communicate, she knew that there were people (herself included, perhaps) who would occasionally purchase them mainly for the amusement factor.

Laughing softly, Hermione took another sip of her drink. "You actually just said the word 'cute,'" she humoured, thoroughly amused. "Seriously though, all cuteness aside, they sound really great, Ron!"

Unfortunately, her amusement and smile faded slightly as he broached the subject of marriage again - this time mentioning his own. "I'm sure the two of you will work out together," Hermione found herself saying automatically, trying her best to keep from showing how upset the idea of him getting married bothered. It was hypocritical of her; what right did she have to get upset over it when she went and did the exact same thing?

"Did I?" and Ron blushed slightly, "Well, yeah, and I'm working on a few more ideas. The bobble heads of all of the Quidditch players in their team colors is going pretty well. People are crazy about the Harpies, and the Magpies. Why no one really favors the Cannons is beyond me."

He looked up as she gave some kind of rote answer to his comment, "Aw, Hermione, I am sorry I keep talking about it. My mind's a muddle. All I can think about is you, then her, then you, and then her. It's like a damn ping pong game in me head. And I have yet to meet her, officially. We've chatted in my journal. I feel like I'm about to crack from the stress. I don't want to hate her; I want to do the right thing, like you did, and make a real go of it, but another part of me just wants to....to.......," and his face twisted into a scowl of confusion and longing.

He stood suddenly, and moved one step towards her chair. He bent over her, effectively trapping her in her seat with his hands on either side of her, and he bent in, capturing her mouth with his, in a kiss that grew more intense with each passing moment. He dropped to his knees slowly, and encircled her body with his arms, pulling her close to him in a tight embrace.

Slightly surprised, she had to admit that Ron had been really busy and applying himself very creatively. Where had he even gotten the idea of making bobble head dolls that showcased the Quidditch players? "No one can appreciate them as much as you can," she said gently, amused, but easy enough that he wouldn't get offensive over his beloved team. She knew better, after all.

"No, don't apologise, Ron," she said, shaking her head. "You need someone to discuss it with and I'm hardly being helpful." But what was she supposed to say, though? She tried to think of some encouraging words to let him know he was doing the right thing by opting to marry Anastasia. When he stopped in the middle of his sentence, she looked over at him, her eyes dancing across his face searchingly.

Before she could even comprehend what was happening, Ron was in front of her, surrounding her, and kissing her, and before she realised it, she was kissing him back. Her hands grasped at whatever piece of fabric they could find as her lips moved against his in aching familiarity. Even as she thought of how wrong this was, how much trouble they could both get into, she ignored that voice of reason with a sigh, and let herself have these few moments. Just those few.

He lifted her, sliding her onto the floor with him, his arms encircling her tightly. His tongue parted her willing lips and twined with hers, invading every space her mouth had to offer. When she was on the floor, her back flat, he loomed over her, and his lips never leaving hers as his blood began to race. She wasn't saying no; she was returning his passion and it lit a fire in him.

Suddenly, he craved the feeling of her skin, and he tugged urgently at her blouse, pulling it easily from her skirt. His hand slipped up, and he groan as his skin touched first her stomach and then cupped her breast. He pushed against her side, wanting her so desperately he almost could not think. His hand squeezed her gently, with his thumb teasing her nipple. He groaned again, and all rational thought fled. He was lost in her taste, the feel of her skin and the roaring of his blood in his ears.
