WHO: Penelope Clearwater and Samuel Bradley (and of course little Gabriel's in tow as well)
WHEN: Friday, July 4, 2002
WHERE: Penelope's flat, Chelsea
WHAT: Meeting one another to discuss their arrangement
RATING: PG, I'm sure
STATUS: Closed/In Progress

To say that Penelope was exhausted might very well be the understatement of the century. But it was a mental exhaustion more than anything, having spent the entire week out of focus, nervous and contemplating the Friday evening to come and how it might turn out.

She wasn't displeased with her Ministry approved match; in fact, she rather preferred it. If anything, at least they had some common ground to go by-- both former Ravenclaw students, appreciative of a good read, mild-mannered, seemingly quiet... But there would always be a catch, wouldn't there? Because despite their similarities, there would always be that one difference between the two that couldn't be overlooked.

Samuel was a father. Nearly a week had passed, and Penelope still couldn't wrap her head around it, despite her efforts. It wasn't as though she was put off by it, just surprised at the idea of a single father as opposed to a single mother. And Samuel was young... not unreasonably young to be a father, of course, but Penelope herself was nearly twenty-six. And she still hadn't given any thought to starting a family. Not on her own, anyway.

After giving one last look-over of the flat (she'd arrived home earlier than usual, and had taken advantage of the extra time by tidying up what she could-- though the flat didn't necessarily need it), she plopped down tiredly on the couch, eyes fixed on the ceiling as different scenarios of how this meeting and talk might go played out in her head.

And then there was a knock at her door-- the one she'd been anxiously expecting-- and her eyes flitted to the clock on the wall, just to her right. Half-past seven, just as they'd agreed on.

She stood up again, nervously smoothing out the wrinkles in her shirt first before making her way to the door to unlock it and remove the safety chain. Forcing a smile, she opened the door and then pulled it back enough so that both her guests could enter.

"Impeccable timing. I'm impressed."

"Three months is still fairly new to the game, Sam. But I'm glad you went in prepared-- as much as you could be, anyway. Peter, my brother, did the same as you... went through any and every book he could find. Drove us nuts over it, too," she said, her smile brightening as Gabriel looked up at her.

"Lacking in sleep is nothing new to me. I maybe get five or six hours a night as it is. Chronic insomnia, I guess," she said with a shrug, then moved away from the two check the coffee pot. "How did you want yours again?" she called from the kitchen.

"Skim milk and sugar please," he called as Gabe looked around. "You've never been here before, have you little pea?" He smiled. "Of course you're wide awake now." He sat the little boy up, held him as he rubbed his back.

Sam looked around again as he waited for Gabriel to burp. "Have you lived here long?" He asked her when she came back out with coffee.

"A little over four years," she replied a bit absently as she came out of the kitchen, coffee and small saucer in hand as she set it on the end table for him. "I lived in a smaller flat before this one, when I was still just an intern-- but it was an older neighborhood. The residents of it, anyway. So I started looking around for something else, and fell in love with this place at first sight... though if I'm being honest with you, I paid entirely too much for it given the state it was in when I first got it. Before my father and I fixed it up, it was probably worth half the actual asking price," she said with a bit of a sigh before taking up the spot next to him again.

"And I'm rambling, sorry. What about your home in Kent?"

"I've been there about two years. It was a newly built home on the coast. I love it, there's a view of the ocean out my kitchen and bedroom windows," he smiled and Gabriel burped. Sam went about getting him cleaned up as he talked to Penelope. He was quite good at multitasking.

"I love it. It'd be a nice place to grow up I think. Though, when I bought it, it was just for the view. And I'm sure Gabriel will appreciate the space, won't you little pea?" He smiled and rubbed noses with him. Gabriel stuck out his tongue and laughed.

"Are you from London originally?" He asked, returning his attention to Penelope.
