WHO: Mikael Harper, Theodore Nott
WHEN: Backdated to a time I haven't figured out yet.
WHERE: Leaky Cauldron
WHAT: Drinking! Deep conversation.
RATING: E, yes?
STATUS: In Progress

As was typical of the establishment, it was dimly lit. Most of the time it was inhabited by those from out of town with a scattering of locals interested in what the outside world was brining into London. It wasn’t a particularly busy night but the clusters of witches and wizards were enough to make a decent amount of noise to drown out any irritating silence that would threaten to take over had there been fewer patrons. Though noise, especially senseless racket, irritated Theodore it would be better to have it than not. There was no sense in falling into pensive thought at this point in time.

Theo had recovered, by now, from the ailment that had sent him to the wretched hospital but he’d retained a sense of uneasiness because of the encounter there. It was the unexpected and entirely unwelcome run in with his future wife that had caused him to risk crowds of possibly idiotic people and boisterous sound to sit at the bar in the Leaky Cauldron. He hunched over the glass, seemingly protective of the contents, picking it up to tilt back and forth occasionally as though determining how long it would take to have gone. The sleeves of his dress shirt were pushed up to his elbows s an indication of seriousness about what he’d come to do. At least he was intending to sit here alone, which seemed, in his mind to negate the less than favorable connotations of spending time in bar.

The glass was lifted and the drink was swallowed in a single go. It inevitably lead to a brief cringing but well worth the initial trouble. At least he had a valid excuse for the drinking now – the Ministry was out to ruin all sane semblance of life. The glass was set roughly down on the bar and nudged away; discarded for the time being.

Upon entering the pub Mikael looked around until his eyes finally settled on Theo already sitting at the bar. His usual cheerful self Mikael made his way through the crowd, not caring that he jostled a few people. It was indeed hard to spoil Mikael's mood and only very few had ever seen him something less than cheerful. Well, not that he always was that cheerful, but at least he was good at pretending on those days when he was not.

"Oi mate, already started without me?" Flopping down in a chair next to Theo, Mikael leaned over the counter and grabbed a bottle of firewhiskey, winking at the bartender.

"Believe me, this'll be easier for us and for you. Just give me a glass, will you?" He smiled, before turning to face Theo again.

"so so, how're you doing?"

Theo glanced at Mikael with blank bright eyes, briefly acknowledging him as he settled into a seat. Chipper as always, it would seem, which for some strange reason, was more of a comfort than an annoyance. Typically, he would have found it aggravating for someone to be so upbeat all of the time but it wasn’t a mindless happiness which was the saving factor.

“I honestly considered waiting, I tried, but it was to inviting to pass up,” he stated as sincerely as possible, drowning out the hint of amusement in his voice with the reminder of why he was here in the first place.

“That’s a particularly distressing question at this point.” He paused and glanced at the man behind the bar who did get around to bringing another glass but looking very skeptically at the Mikael for helping himself. Still, nothing was said. Theo stole the pilfered bottle to pour a portion of the contents into his glass. “I’d prefer you tell me how you’re doing, it’s sure to be much more uplifting, isn’t it?”

"Ah, I can understand that. Surrounded by temptation one should definitely give in," Mikael winked, making himself comfortable and pouring himself a generous glass of whiskey.

"How am I doing?" Mikael frowned briefly as if he was actually thinking about it. "I have a glass of whiskey in my hand and am content in the knowledge that there is much much more, so I am very good right now. If you are asking how I am not considering the situation right now I have to say that I am desperately trying to avoid my mother and sister. They have turned into wedding harpies and it seems that nothing can stop them. Distressing, I tell you," Mikael lightly shook his head before downing half of his drink in one go.

This sort of confession actually caused an excessively rare chuckle from Theodore before he took a drink of the liquid which quite pleasantly burned as though it needed to be a further distraction from the realities outside of the building. “That was exactly the cheery sort of summary I had hoped for.” For a moment he considered setting the glass on the bar but thought better of it considering it would just be picked up again and fairly soon.

“At the very least, I don’t have harpies planning out the details of this wedding business.” Which could have been beneficial for as bothersome as it sounded, at least he wouldn’t have to go around thinking on it himself. “Met the future wife?”

"Honestly, I think they've been planning my wedding since the day that I was born and now with this stupid decree they have whipped it all out of the closet. Like their lifelong work," Mikael rolled his eyes, refilling his glass.

"Nope, ministry is apparently still looking for someone who will survive more than one day with me. So all I can do is wait and try to shoot every owl that is flying in my direction. If I don't get the stupid letter it is not my fault after all."

((ooc: I think back then when this was actually taking place Mikael hadn't been matched yet ;) )

Theo nodded, as though in some bizarre agreement with Mikael’s idea of his family planning his wedding from the very beginning. The whiskey he had was finished off and the sadly empty glass was filled again. There could be no medicine better than countless glasses of alcohol – unless, of course, it triggered the mind to dwell and sink into a pitying state. “You know it’s inevitable, those owls are crafty bastards they’ll get you.”

“Though, it’s good of you not to try stealing out of the country.” Whether this was sarcasm, disdain, or something entirely different wasn’t clear. It could have been admiration or approval for all that could be gleaned from Theo’s tone.

"Not if I get them first. I'll be known for centuries to come as the owl killer," Mikael laughed, downing the rest of whiskey in his glass in one go.

"Well, wouldn't do me any good to run away," He shrugged, watching a couple that sat a few tables away absently-minded, his finger tracing the rim of his glass.

"I mean, we all dislike the situation, but let's face it, getting through with it proudly is better than running away and hiding like a coward. 's no use. This is not the end of the world although it makes life potentially a bit less enjoyable."

Mikael poured them both another generous drink.

Considering how rare it was for Theo to actually make a physical display of amusement he merely raised his glass to the idea that Mikael would be known famously or infamously as an owl slayer.

"That's one of the few sensible things I've heard as of late. There seems to be a sense of general idiotic hysteria spreading throughout the community about the entire affair." Shrugging a shoulder and momentarily inspecting the freshly poured whiskey: "They're not going to get anything accomplished the way they're going about it."

Theodore was intentionally remaining oblivious to the surrounding area. The last thing he wanted to acknowledge was irritatingly blissful couples or lonely sods. "...a bit less enjoyable, yes. I've good intentions never to see the woman after the wedding." The word 'wedding' was beginning to conjure terribly negative images and his tone was perhaps a bit sharper than intended.
