Who: Parvati Patil and Mikael Harper
What: Ring Shopping
Where: Dulce Fleur then the Jewelry store
When: Saturday June 21, 2002 – 8 pm
Rating: E
Status: Closed/Complete

“Rings, rings, beautiful rings.” Parvati had been in an odd mood all day. She had slept decently for the first time in a while, though half of the reason she was acting odd was just because of that. For what seemed like the sixteenth time that day her partner shot her an odd look. “Oh leave me alone, you know how I love jewelry.”

Parvati finished putting away the lace and made sure all the other employees were gone for the night. Her partner Sara would be the last leaving since she had to do the accounting. Parvati was lucky enough only to have to tuck away the orders they were working throughout the day.

She was under a table when she heard the door open, causing her to jerk up and hit her head. “Ouch. Sara, let me know if you see a stuck up blonde man.”

"No way, I am looking forward to meeting your mother." Leading her outside Mikael looked around.

"Are we meeting her somewhere or going to your place?"

Parvati frowned and walked ahead of him. "We're going to my place. Luckily my father took my sister somewhere so it is only my mother and I tonight. And you visiting, of course. If you're sure about this."

She was giving him time to run away. After all, she was pretty sure her mother would attach herself to him. The only thing she would dislike about him was his non-Indian heritage.

"Of course I am sure about this. I want to meet your parents, both of them at some point, because well...we're all going to be family somehow, yeah?" Mikael rubbed his neck, smiling sheepishly. Damn, this was awkward.

"You are insane." Parvati gave him a reassuring smile and shrugged. "Okay. Let's go get this over with, alright? It's not a far walk from here as long as we hurry." She started walking at a fast pace, hoping he would keep up. She just wanted it all done and over with.

"So I am told frequently." Mikael followed her, keeping up with her pace as he took in his surroundings.

"Damn, I should've probably bought your mum flowers or something."

"Oh please, she's already going to love you. Do you really need to make things worse?" She rolled her eyes as they entered a suburb area. It seemed quiet all around and very normal. Parvati would sort of miss it. She had grown up in this neighborhood, ever since they arrived in the country. After a couple more blocks she stopped him in front of her house. "Right. Here we are. I hope you're ready."

It was more said towards her than anybody else. Parvati smiled and took him by the hand, leading him into the house. "MUUUUUUUUUUM! I'm home!"

"Is he here?" A short plump Indian woman walked out of the kitchen, her braid resting on her shoulder as she held a basket of laundry. Figures she'd try to look innocent.

"Mum, Mikael. Mikael, this is my mum." She quickly let go of his hand and moved to take the laundry basket from her mother, who was eying him up as if he were on display.

"Wait a sec. Why would I make things worse if she likes me?" Mikael asked innocently, somewhat amused by the whole situation.

Looking around Mikael found that he really liked the house of Parvati's family. It was more homely than the manor he had grown up in ever was.

Giving Parvati's mum his best smile, Mikael stepped closer, holding out his hand.

"It's a pleasure to meet you, Mrs Patil."

"I'm going to put these away and then I'll be right back. Mum, please don't do anything embarrassing. Miki, the same thing to you." Parvati shot them both a look and hurried upstairs with the basket.

Parvati's mother smiled, moving to sit down on the nearest chair. "Have a seat, Mikael." She looked at him appraisingly. "So you're marrying my daughter because of this ridiculous law? Tell me about yourself. what do you do? How much do you make?"

Mikael winked at Parvati before he sat down as well, looking at Parvati's mother once more.

"I'm working at the Ministry of Magic at the Department for Magical Law Enforcement. I think you'd call it a lawyer? I am still a trainee working on smaller cases, but I am getting there. I make good money and my families fortune is not small either, so I assure you, your daughter will be well cared for."

Mrs. Patil narrowed her eyes at him, relaxing a little as her inquisition continued. "How many siblings do you have? Cousins? Are you close to your parents? You do realise she will be raising the children the proper way. She'll be having a proper Indian wedding as well." She pursed her lips.

"Mum." Parvati was glaring from the stairway as she walked down. "If you're done with asking him a million questions..."

"Well, where's the ring?" Mrs. Patil glared at Parvati.

"Getting properly sized." Parvati and Mrs. Patil seemed to have forgotten Mikael, glaring at each other.

"One older sister who is living in France with her husband and I have more cousins than I care to count. My parents and I get along very well and they'd like to invite you over to dinner sometime after the wedding. Of course we'll be raising the children," He tried hard not to laugh "The proper way and we'll have a wedding that will surely satisfy you." Mikael answered all of her questions without so much as the blink of an eye, looking at Parvati and her mum with an amused smile as they started a glaring match.

"We've picked out our rings today, they should be ready by Monday. I think they'll find your approval."

Parvati started shooting her glares at her mother's head since Mrs. Patil was now beaming happily. It figured Parvati had been right. She loved him. A good thing somebody did.

"Mother, if you are done scaring Mikael I think he needs to be leaving. He must have had a long day." Parvati smiled, trying to give him a hint as she walked towards the door.

Mikael considered to deny that and stay longer, just to piss Parvati off. In the end he decided against it. If he showed some cooperation she might stop being so extremely stubborn. Still, he couldn't resist placing the jewellery box on the table when both women weren't looking on his way to the door.

"Oh yes indeed. A lot of work to do at the Ministry at the moment." He smiled apologetically. "It was really nice meeting you, Mrs. Patil. I'm sure we'll see each other again soon." Turning to Parvati he winked at her.

"Have a good night, princess. Talk to you soon."

He was being too nice about it. She really would have to murder him in his sleep, just to be a widow. Parvati walked him to the door, glaring at him the whole time.

"Good night, Miki. I'll see you sooner than we both would like." She tried hard not to slam the door on him when he left.

"He seems nice. What a wonderful husband." Mrs. Patil was picking up something from the table and looking over it. Oh no he did NOT!

Parvati hurried to take the box from her mother. "Looks like he left something. I'll just have to give it back to him next time I see him." She would definitely murder him. After she received her ring.

"that's what you say. I am looking forward to seeing you again, sunshine," Mikael smiled, as if he didn't notice her glares at all.

"Good night," He waved before he left, looking for a quiet sidestreet from where he could apparate back to his flat.
