I've clearly done something I shouldn't have. I didn't know that at the time, but Sam is... a jealous man.

Someone who looked a lot like my James arrived last night. He didn't want to be alone so I went to him and explained about the vortex, this place and... I ended up falling asleep there. Nothing happened, but Sam? He's gone.

You mean that lovely man you were raving about turned tail at the slightest paranoid whisper that you loved another?

Things are not looking favorable for him to have a painless first meeting with the family.

Yes. But I don't know why he'd think that. I've explained to him how James died. I don't know how he can hold EMOTIONS against the goddess of shared emotion.

... I know.

Because he's a young mortal who's foolish enough to think that he can control the world. He's immature, love, and while that may lead to your fondness for him, it's certain to put a damper on the more serious issues. The boy simply hasn't lived or loved the way we do. He doesn't understand, and apparently doesn't want to. Not really that surprising.

Shall I have a conversation with him? Do my best to enlighten him?

I was more than fond of him, Aunt. I loved him, deeply. He knows who and what I am. That I feel emotions unlike most people. I thought by being honest, because I had nothing to hide, would work to my advantage. Keeping quiet probably would have been the better solution.

Will you terrify him?

Would you like me to?

I think it would be unavoidable. He was already nervous about meeting the family.

Perhaps I should just cut my losses. Find a new place to live.

Oh, Annie. I'm hoping to scare some sense into the boy so that you won't have to leave brokenhearted.

Although, if you'd like a bit of a reprieve, I did come into a house in Montreal when I arrived here. Among other houses in other places. Las Vegas? Florida? They're yours, if you wish them to be.

I tend to bounce in matters of the heart, Aunt. You know this. Anteros? James? The Doctor? All of them ended up leaving. They all do.

Montreal is nice this time of year, yes?

They were bloody idiots, the lot of them. Well, with the exception of dear James. He was lost to the foolishness of mortality.

But yes, Montreal is rather lovely. At least that's what this French-Canadian bloke I'm apparently married to keeps telling me.

Maybe it's me. With the Doctor, I wanted to return his love to him. With Anteros, my jealousy. With Sam... perhaps I was too divine. Not mortal enough.

I don't want to live with your half-husband.

"Not mortal enough." In all my life, I don't think I've ever heard anyone say that. You're a goddess, Anne, and a Greek one at that. There's no way to avoid that, even by revoking your immortality. And do you honestly think it would solve anything?

Darling, I don't want to live with my half-husband. Well, really more like two-times-a-husband. But he wouldn't be there. He's too busy managing me on this whatever you call it, with arenas and screaming people. "World Tour".

No.

You said Las Vegas? I've never been, always avoided it because of Anteros and Peitho. Perhaps I'll take you up on that offer instead. The distraction will do me well.

We could hit the casinos, take in a few shows. Or I could let you loose on your own.

Spread the word, the tour's on hold. Indefinitely.

Family comes first, after all.
